The Heartbreakers tried to steal credit for this song which was co-written by Dee Dee Ramone & Richard Hell. Hell said it had become the Heartbreakers' most popular song. Hell said when he looked at the credits on LAMF he was surprised to see his & Dee Dee's names no where to be seen. Instead, it had Heartbreakers' names on the writing credit. The leglities eventually got sorted out & writing copyright today belongs to the rightful owners Hell & Dee Dee.

FTR: Dee Dee wrote the song but Johnny Ramone rejected it due to its overt drug reference. Hell added lyrics and the Heartbreakers cut Dee Dee's writing credit atogether. They're all dead now (except Hell maybe) but the song lives on...

Johnny stole the song....The days of "chinese rock" were a little dream period... The first punk T-shirt said : "chinese rock" it was black whith inch high letters in white straight across the chest. These were the first words whch were his script' ( besides the intro to do you love me) : this songs 'written by a bunch of girls 'scalled CHINESE ROCK! ......the people who had the shirts......were cool junkies...you dont have a clue..to how cool..they looked...NYC wild

@unclemort1960 Whoever wrote it doesn't matter that much to me. It blew me away when I heard it in '77/'78. I immediately bought the record. The Ramones version I heard later and was to me a bad copy of a great J.Thunders song.

Anyway, they don't make like this anymore.

@indieFilmFanatic91 your right to a point The Ramones didn't want to play the song of reasons you wrote. And Thunders had no input in writing the song. Go see the documentary : Is DeeDee Home. I didn't hear him say he gave the song to Johnny.

Never mind it all...Thunders made the song famous/notorious with his guitar sound.

The Ramones sing 'is Arty home' which is a reference to Arturo Vega, the man who designed the Ramones logo. Dee Dee wrote the song and Richard Hell added a verse or two, Johnny Thunders had no input in the writing of this song.

Johnny is the King of Thunder Guitar.

So many modern guitar players have copied his sound.

The Heartbreakers are singing "Hey is Dee Dee home?" and the Ramones sing "Hey is Johnny Home?" Dee Dee and Johnny wrote it together.
