  • Those who don't have a college degree will be the first to tell you that education is great limit to one's income. Yes high schools and college students can compete for entry level jobs. But upward mobility is privileged to higher education, not to mention, competition for entry level jobs go to college students. Not to mention, education should be more than "getting a job." Not to mention, while are we listening to an austrian economist? Not to mention, why are we listening to an investor? Gag!

  • Also, you can major in engineering, but find out the engineering jobs in America are mostly given to immigrants with H1B visas. Many employers don't like to hire their fellow Americans.

  • This is the biggest bunch of misinformation I've ever heard. You are not getting a white collar job without at least a 2 year associates degree. Why in gods name would you not grind 2-4 years out to live better for the next 50? Go to school for something in demand, you'll get something out of school.

  • I Majored in Marketing and a minor in graphic design. But they say i need a masters to get a job which is 60,000 a year here in nyc

  • Not going to college doesn't mean you stop learning duh. Learning is cheap, just borrow books from the library or go to community college... HAHA you pay 100K for college just so they test you on books they force you to buy

  • @joinProfusionEx Exactly. But not everybody has the discipline to learn from a book they got from the library.

  • FUCK!!!!! Why didn't anyone tell me this 4 years ago, i am now 80,000 dollars in debt and i can't find one job!!!!!

  • @MrJama1ca why did you go four years stupid. Why not 2 years at city college or state

  • @MrJama1ca What did you major in?

  • Success in America ins't about what you know, it's about who you know and Who you blow, everyone knows it, give me a thimbs up.

  • peter is wrong about that, an 18 year old cannot go get a job that requires a college degree, no employer would give an 18 year old a job like that. Atleast in College you have some training. However if your 18, you could get a entry level job at minium wage and with-in 4 years move up to make that $35k a year.

  • @CeletenteFan223 The thing about College, sorry if I upset you, is that you have to study a ton of crap that is totally irrelevant to your major, wasting in the mean time valuable time you could be using to study something in your field, and what's even worse...YOU ARE PAYING AN OUTRAGEOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY EACH SEMESTER only to be studying why Hitler invaded Poland and seeing how you can connect this with your major..and getting pissed off when you find out there is no connection

  • @themango121

Quit trying to make yourself feel good online. You're most likely the poorest of your suburb with 90k. The good life my ass. You're content. Not happy. If you were happy you wouldn't be online telling people how much you and your lady make. So your lady is the primary bread winner? Good for you man. You're the MAN! lmao combined 90k a year.... The fuck outta here with that "good life" bullshit. Maybe these younger kids you argue with don't know, but I know 100k is a minimum must t

  • @toxinsimbiote

You'll regret not continuing education. But you're so smart you know that already.

  • /watch?v=VpZtX32sKVE

  • my dad thinks he can make me go he says i dont have a chice il have a car and a job by then probobly if i save up im skiping n il file a restraining order if he says otherwise

  • @toxinsimbiote21 Well, with grammar like that you aren't even qualified to go to college. Try trade school. That's practical.

  • @lundungoth ok this argument is stupid on a job app. yea il use proper grahmer n spelling y the fuck would i care on a youtube comment

  • Genius

  • I'm RACIST for criticizing Obama.

TERRORIST because I'm not with Bush.

ANTISEMITIC for not supporting Rothschild Zionism.

    TEABAGGER for supporting the Constitution.

    TRUTH-ER for asking unanswered questions.

TRAITOR for whistle-blowing on my corrupt Government.

CONSPIRACY THEORIST for presenting documented facts.

TROLL for uploading news, videos, quotes and U.S.Atrocities.

ANTI-AMERICAN for supporting Constitutionalists like Dr. Ron Paul.

    RON PAUL 2012!

  • Knowing EXACTLY... what you want to do... and the right determination, you can make anything happen, but a huge lesson I've learned is not to ever become discouraged because something makes you fall behind your own expectations.... if you're still caught up on what everybody else is doing and not focusing on yourself, just forget about becoming successful altogether.

  • for some jobs he is right. Instead of studying economics you can go and work. However there are also other jobs who do require some formal eduction. But let be honest how many engineer do work as commercial. Well I know quiet a few.

  • @MultiHellojohn well i was originally in the ROTC program for my first two years, just a standard BA with a major in history. Not a big math or science guy, more of a politics guy was hopin for geopolitical intelligence, but the DOJ was cutting back and didn't let me continue in the program due to major, despite great grades and involvement with the ROTC detachment, so I figured id at least finish the degree. I might hit up the MBA program though so its not a total waste I guess.

  • @MultiHellojohn no...its the "great waste" and I am going to be even more depressed this may when I graduate.

  • No "Student Loan", and you might find a job that will pay for you school...

  • I love Schiff, but his assertion is baseless and incorrect. Choice of major makes a HUGE difference. Avoid psychology, sociology, or other 'cakewalk' degrees for which the market provides little demand. Major in the sciences, engineering, healthcare, or law for which there is demand. This is simple supply and demand; choosing not to further educate yourself is a poor choice.

  • @mccask13 Except law, the US has 50% of the worlds lawyers. Co-incidentally, the US also has 50% of the worlds prison population. We need less lawmakers & bureaucrats, & more entrepreneurship.

  • @mccask13 The high schooler will go looking for work as a burger flipper, and will get out of his parents house by the time he is 55.

  • @mccask13 You don't always need a college to educate yourself. In our times college is completely overpriced thanks to government interference and is of low quality.

  • @mccask13 There is NO demand for lawyers. Sorry but you are way off with that one. The legal field is completely over-saturated, many people with law degrees are working in bars and coffee shops.

  • engineers across the states are retiring while gen y is applying for law school, what a shame, no wonder this country is going into the shitter

  • LOL I was hired by Apple cause i schooled the Guy at the genus bar . I basically went into get my laptop fixed and said hey the dvd drive is smashed and it needs to be replaced ! Yup thats exactly what my bill said and the problem stated : top of dvd drive smashed in replacement then cost ! I said to the guy at the genus bar is Apple hiring ? Not right now then i let him have it explained all this technology in site my laptop and he was so shocked that he hired me to fix The hard ware !

  • All good employment is handed out under the table anyway, to insiders.

It is far better for the 18 year old to get inside for far less salary upfront, because all the good opportunities down the line will be available to him, plus there is not debt over his or her head.

On the weekends that 18 year old should go to the library and read, that way he'll have a better knowledge because university doesn't teach jack shit, it only indoctrinates.

  • Telling people to skip college would be fine...if having an advanced education wasnt important job wise.

Schiff is like most people who dont understand that colleges have nothing to do with the standards set by companies and employers.

Its the private sector that sets the job standards and for most decent paying jobs-college degrees are necessary.

Telling kids to skip college makes no sense when they keep hitting a brick wall in jobs that require degrees for advancement.

  • @MultiSmartass1 they also use credit checks and watch your Facebook postings. When the college students that have defaulted on their loans can't pass the credit check, guess what happens? College is bullshit. Had been for about 20 years now.

  • @rrhynes That has nothing to do with Colleges per se but with the financial instiutions you get the loans through.

Also, employers check people's Facebooks before hiring them.

Your post has nothing to with my point.

    Calling College Bullshit is bullshit.

Nobody forces people to go to college-if you want to go then you better find a way to pay for it.

People who complain about college and college loans are lazy people who cant hack it in the real world-so they become anti-college. Its silly

  • @MultiSmartass1 It's bullshit. I kno. I have a MS in Engineering and I've seen how little any of it means these days. You either have the aptitude or you dont. Only colleges caer about credentials. They use faculty degrees to ramp up their tuition.

  • What's even more stupid is 95% of the time people with high functioning Autism who wants to achieve a successful life in a mainstream workforce end up in a supported workforce, knowing they're trapped under a capitalist conspiracy ran by the government.

They shouldn't have to put up with the lack of economic revenues whatsoever.

  • It can be proved useful for most people aged between 22-23, but what about people who are on a disability service allowance? There wouldn't be a way for bosses to allow people with disabilities to enter into the workforce because they wrongfully accuse people with high functioning Autism who can't read intricate articles from books or newspapers. Nonsense, the work bosses only want to remove them just to secure investments from a company they're in and they wouldn't be risking any "high debts".

  • :D

  • I work for kellogs i dropped out of college and im debt free making good money , no debt feels goow no debt feels really good I owe not a cent and still make more than this girl who graduated from Colombia and is now only making 10.99 an hour . With A cj degree . and with more debt im on my third car. and a motorcycle working on a house.

  • Or one can try enlisting in the military and learn a trade. The military does offer training for those trades. Once you get all of the training and experience and done your time you can opt to leave, and when you go back into civilian life you can take all you have learned and go into the private and public sector with no debt. Navy and the Air Force are pretty good branches to learn a trade.

  • I love working with people that have college degrees and make more than they do, they never seem to understand that i have more experience.. No one cares about worthless degrees anymore.

  • Well it takes a special company and situation for this plan to work. Its a pretty good concept. With todays online applications it would make it hard to even get near the boss to make your offer however. Although I can see this working in locally owned small companies.

  • College majors with lowest unemployment rates 1. Medical technology technician 1.4% 2. Nursing 2.2% 3. Treatment therapy professions 2.6% 4. Medical assisting services 2.9% 5. Agriculture production & management 3.0% 6. Industrial production technologies 3.1% 7. Pharmacy 3.2% 8. Communications & disorders sciences 3.3% 9. Elementary education 3.6% 10. Special needs education 3.6%

  • The son of Irwin Schiff, a prominent figure in the United States tax protester movement, Peter Schiff was born and raised in New Haven, Connecticut.[20] Schiff attended Beverly Hills High School in California.[21] Subsequently, Schiff graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1987 with a Bachelor's degree in finance and accounting.[1]

So he has a college degree telling you not to get one.

    What does that tell you.?

Where would he be without it?

    Greeting people at Walmart.

  • @PANDAjoe2x College used to mean something, but now it doesn't unless your seeking to become and engineer or a doctor. When everybody and their brother has a degree, it seems to diminish the value of it. And is it really worth $80,000 for a degree that won't even guarantee you a job flipping burgers? You used to be able to work a summer job to pay for your college. Now a summer job won't even pay for 1/10th of it...

  • @PANDAjoe2x

You're missing the point... College has become a total scam.. When peter went to college it was still prety decent.. Today it's become so expensive and so bad, there is no point graduating with 100 grand in debt and no real skills wtih a worthless sociology degree..

  • @PANDAjoe2x But the cost is now MUCH higher than when Schiff went for a degree. You'll be in debt for many years after you graduate. You talk as if a college education is worth ANY price colleges want to charge. Well that's obviously a load of bull. (Maybe you're a teacher, hmm?) At what point do you look elsewhere because it's not worth it? 100, 250, 500k debt? The numbers aren't adding up anymore-AND colleges basically lie about grad income statistics! Look up John Stossel's college reports!

  • Where im from, Alberta i work road construction(gomaco operator) and i make $60,000 plus benefits for 6 months work. You know why because im not lazy and i like what i do.

  • Peter Schiff is a real teacher!!!!!!!!!! Professors at universities are abject scum.

  • Comment removed

  • Apparently now to perform Brain Surgery all you need is the following, #1 a High School Diploma, #2 the willingness to take at least 50% less pay than a Board Certified Surgeon! LOL LOL LOL Sheeple, YOU ARE FUCKING PATHETIC!

  • i don't plan on going but I'm applying, I don't even know a way to start a career. unlike some people who's daddys get them a job mine is unemployed and i can't even join the military

  • @fatprick44 Learn a trade they are in demand and it will increase. We will be forced to repair this nation's infrastructure. Plumbers, electricians, welders, pipe fitters... that's where it's at.

  • @fatprick44 go deliver pizzas, you'll make $15 an hour+ and have an easy/fun job.

  • So true, good thing I was only in college for one semester. I begin to have second thoughts about it since the day I found my first real job. For me to not lose it, I sacrifice college for work and I'm glad I did, now I got a full years of experience and no college debt.

  • while you are on that job, you can read all the trade journals they get.. you can learn more from reading the trade journals, especially the advertizements in few months than you get in college for a year or two.... then if you see you some basic math skills... buy a math for dummies book and pick those up in a few days...get the most basic book you can get by with...that way learning goes fast

  • In CANADA, with just your"High School Diploma"working at a Restaurent,Mcdonalds,Walmart, .etc.You are Given a Quick 10 Minute Exercise on Job Training e.i.A Shipper & Receiver at Walmart only needs a High School Education Diploma & a Fast 10-20 Minute Training Exercise Program! You Begin Official work 9:00 A.M on a Monday to Friday Job Making CANADIAN Minimum Wage by CANADIAN Employment LAW,Minimum Wage at $11.25 Per/Hour After 4 Months increases to $11.75 Per/Hour only wih A High School Diploma!

  • Yeah, I ended up wasting an entire decade trying to get some kind of college degree when, in hindsight, a 2-year technical/trade degree would have gotten me established years earlier. Problem is that, back in 1980 when I finished high school, almost everyone I knew was saying that unless you went to college--and got the kind of "good job" college graduation promised to deliver--you would end up being little more than a serf in the emerging economy and culture. What a crock!

  • My dad preached the same thing Peter is saying now "College is worthless son"

"Just work for the company i work for"

I did that and I make 55k a year salary with bonuses!

And no its not a Union.

  • @TheMango121 What is your position...because 55k is quite good pay for an entry level job.

  • @TheMango121 what is the company

  • @TheMango121 damn where do ou work at ? lol jk

  • @TheMango121 55k is a shiity salary

  • @Zac6230

My wife's a nurse. We make 90k a year combined income. My house is paid off and i could give two fucks about wasting a bunch of money on a "nice car" or other stupid things that won't buy happiness.

I don't live in a big city. You ever hear of "cost of living"? Well its LOW where I live so a 200k house here is like a MANSION in Washington D.C

I'm living the good life... are you?

  • @TheMango121 I just sold my Vancouver condo for 750k to some Asian buyer and moved to the USA.Vancouver is one of the highest costs of living in the world. It past NYC and London a few years ago for expensive real estate. I know nurses that have applied to every hospital in the state and nothing. Don't be so naive 90k combined is nothing, you sound like a glorified pauper with small cock syndrome.

  • @TheMango121 great if you know people who can get you a job like that with no education, most people are not that lucky. I guess you dont understand

  • @CeletenteFan223

Hahah no one got me a job. I went and applied for it. Worked my OWN way up and I made it to where I am. My father working for the same company is completely irrelevant! Hell I make as much as he does and i'v only been working there for 5 YEARS.

You need to find a good career. Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and Wendy's are called "dead end jobs" because you CAN'T make a living doing them.

  • @TheMango121 you got your foot in the door because your Dad works there, quit denying that. Why would they hire a dud like you with no experience and no education when they could get someone with actual work experience and a college degree meaning they have training with computers, college writing, college level reading, researching skills, and knowledge in some major, for the same money they pay you?? Because you're daddy works there!! Not because your more qualified.

  • @CeletenteFan223

HAHAHA You don't need experience to RUN A FUCKING SHOVEL! you're a fucking moron man. Problem is kids are TOO FUCKING LAZY to use their backs nowadays. I worked hard and EARNED my money. I see it every day... the entitlement kids of today. "WHAAA WHAAA I DON'T WANT TO SHOVE, CRY CRY CRY, BITCH BITCH BITCH. FUCK THIS IM GOING HOME".

In this "economy" we got rid of 19 PEOPLE in a 4 month job simply because they were TOO FUCKING LAZY to do the work. Go occupy something cunt.

  • @TheMango121 bullshit nowadays its impossible to find even a construction job unless u know someone

  • @fatprick44

    Try harder mr 99%

  • @fatprick44 No shit. Let Peter know. That high high school graduate looking for a job wont find any, unless he knows somebody.

  • @TheMango121 Uhm, bull shit.

  • @TheMango121 I respectfully disagree with the fast food assertion. I'm an unemployed construction contractor, who in 20 yrs did not see a recession like the one I'm seeing now. Now I'm reduced to watch my wife support the household while I stay home with the kids . She is able to do this because she got herself a McDonald's job 13yrs ago , she is now executive director (she didn't start this way , she flipped burgers for years and years) earning almost a 5 figure salary. Cheers

  • @TheMango121 great if you got conections lke that, most people dont,

  • milton friedman stuff here awesome

  • At least he know what he is talking about when it come to having a job over college.

  • Brilliant

  • This idea goes along with eliminating the minimum wage.

  • @nannyberries Does it apply even if a person requests a lower amount of money?

  • @laylow7582 ??????

  • holy crap this guy is a genius...i wish i knew this 4 years ago when i was 18...sigh 4 years wasted.

  • @flik221 If it will make you feel better, I wasted 6 years. However, the horrible experience has made me a better person. Obviously, I'm the exception, so what Schiff said stands.

  • @flik221 This guy sounds like a Fucking Retard, can I still Apply at NASA even though I never went to College? LOL LOL, what if I go to the Hospital and Say HEY, I'm willing to perform the Job of open Heart Surgery for 50K less than that other idiot who graduated from Harvard! ROTFL ROTFL You Sheeple are pathetic!

  • @deeppurple28 haha man hes talking about liberal arts degrees like womens studies. no one will tell you the hard sciences are a waste of time but most people dont go to college for the hard sciences...you need to stop jumping to conclusions and being emotional and actually listen to people before you explode in a flurry of stupidity.

  • @flik221 cool story bro! Dumb Fuck!

  • @deeppurple28 lols mate he's obviously not referring to medical or engineering degrees. more along the lines of arts, social science, stupid sport science degrees etc.

  • @jeiison Ah, Just Checking!

  • @deeppurple28 I think he is talking about jobs in sales or something along these lines, obviously not specialized positions, or the "professions".

  • So true. I don't have a degree and am doing way better than most of the people I know who do. The only people who should be going to college are doctors, biologists, and other technical careers. Most of these degree's are just a very expensive corporate work permits.

  • My son received his Associates Degree at our community college, (pay as you go) then learned more skills on the job ( no cost out of pocket) now has more training than an average person with a 4 year degree without the debt. My husand works for a small University, enrollment is down, many of the students are not college material so they'll just go into debt and never get a degree. Please young people learn a trade, forget about the over priced over promised education system .

  • @Garrisonpea I agree not everyone is college material especially younger adults 18-24. I think more kids and parents need to talk about this subject seriously. They can't just assume college is the right way to go anymore with cost being so high.

  • Oh my God could anything be more retarded! Sure, just say you want to be a neurosurgeon. Who needs to know human Anatomy anyway? Just tell them you will do the job for half the bucks, right? Science and understanding is rarely used in modern technology. I'm being sarcastic of course. Tell some one you want to work as a digital designer but you've never taken an electronics class. Watch how the phone rings. LOL

  • @Proemed I believe this, as u say, depends on what kind of education you are planning to take. I agree with Schiff that the education system is over sized, and that you could start making use of yourself way earlier. But ofcourse, a doctor, engineer or something like that needs the schooling. But theres alot of other jobs you really could cut down the education part on. For instance where i live in Norway, you need 4 years of education after high school to be a able to shoe a horse.

  • So you are learning that they lied to you your whole life? Welcome to the club. The US gov. forces you to go to public school where college is presented as the purpose of life. You spend your parents' life savings or 20 years of your future earnings - that is once you actually learn a skill because you are not going to learn any in college. Then you get to college which is nearly entirely useless for anything other than learning how to drink.
