  • Let 's get to the Big Stuff like what do they think of the TWILIGHT books?

  • @Hugo411 Kurt Vonnegut would have told every female to write down all there wet dreams. because it could one day sell millions and make your rich and famous.

  • what was that book? (cut out) hahahahahaha

  • I like JCO's writing, but this is the first time I've seen her speak or interviewed. Something about the way she reacts and comments makes me uncomfortable...

  • am i the only one that thinks kurt vonnegut is just a fucking depressed lonely bozo?

  • @halflifeproductionz Sir, he was more than that. He was a fucking brilliant, depressed, lonely bozo.

  • @imdavidavid man after reading his bio i see why he has this pessimistic outlook on the world.

  • @halflifeproductionz the world is depressing. thats the only 'reason' anyone needs to see the world realistically

  • @halflifeproductionz

    Isn't everybody? If they're honest?

  • Trendy hipster douchebags!

Who are masquerading as cultured and literate because someone told you Kurt Vonenegut was was a hipster icon.

If you knew anything at all about literature,

you 'd know Joyce carol Oates is one of the greatest authors of the 20th century, and one of greatest authors alive.

    DIE hipster scum, DIE!

  • @spiritscar ah, i see you just proved to all the hipsters that you are different from them with your superior taste in literature. how very unhipster of you.

  • @crouchisarobot In my book, having superior tastes doesn't make you a hipster

(but thank you for noticing my superior tastes.)

Blindly following the hip crowds without any source of sincerity does.

The douches here talking smack about about an author they have no knowledge of is a clear case of

    "Hipster Lemmings"

Kurt Vonnegut has been deemed hip by the trendy hipster masses. Though I'm willing to bet a significant number of hipsters here talking smack and championing Vonnegut haven't read him.

  • im slightly confussed is this the point?

"I think that Vonnegut's ideals on cencorship is that it doesn't really matter if they have them in place or not. His reson for such is that because in a government that did or did not enforce cencorship, if he doesn't pose much of a threat to them they wouldn't give a hoot about him, BUT, if he DID pose a threat to them then they would censor him either way, and because of this, thats why he thinks it doesn't make much or any difrence."

  • that bitch knew exactly the title of m.moores book. She just wanted it to be repeated for the heck of hearing it again. Shes one of these nazi feminists who bong-hits queefs.

  • ok this is just fucking scary. im not a big reader (sorry) but i had to read a book for a report...it was F451. if im not a reader, why am i watching this? im not doing a report on Vonnegut. and my friend is doing mark twain...que twilight zone music.

  • God bless both of them! They are wonderful writers!

  • You all need to read Joyce Carol Oates', "On Boxing"...Even if you hate the sport of boxing, you will absolutely love this book. She's an amazing writer.

  • It's a shame that everyone's ripping on Joyce Carol Oates. I think both her and Vonnegut are talented writers, but I think she's more talented. It's a shame she's overlooked because of how prolific she is, because she's actually damn good. Anyone who can write novels ranging from dysfunctional farming families to a psychopathic sexual predator giving people lobotomies to be his personal slaves, and writing it with such beauty, gets my respect.

  • @DallasSkinnyPuppy I agree that her own huge output may have lowered her in some people's eyes, if I'm understanding you. But she's not really overlooked. Most people I know know who she is and respect her.

Maybe she's unknown to some of the idiots on this thread, who only know Vonnegut 'cause all hipsters know Vonnegut. They probably haven't read two books by him.

But yes, JCO is a brilliant writer, particularly the shorts. But Alice Munro is even better! Kurt's great but overrated.

  • My best friend ever Kurt Vonnegut. Greatest man in the World

  • RIP KV! When books or movies, etc. are censored or burned it makes them infamous. If local politicians or a schoolboard banned a book, I would want to run out and get a copy to see what all the fuss was about. These fools draw more attention to what they're trying to "save" us from by announcing it.

  • Unfortunately, most people don't read anymore. A banned movie or album will make a huge profit, but a banned book will just shrivel up and die.

  • @the1andonlyMizMoon I actually didn't think about it that way, but its true for the most part. If I hear about a banned book, I definitely want to take a look at it but that might just be because of all the Vonnegut I've read and the perspective he's taught me, the average person would not. Not to say I'm an above average person, I've just had the fortune of finding Vonnegut early in my life and he's taught me many things. RIP Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

  • hi ho

  • Kurt Vonnegut- modern muse, modern hero.

  • The other Author completely missed Kurt Vonnegut's point: it isn't censorship he was talking about, it's the fact he was free of it because he couldn't bite the government; he was simply not effective or loud enough as a voice against the Powers that were at this time in 2006. He's on the ball 100%, Joyce Carol Oates seems to be preoccupied with missing the point that the censorship isn't even needed now - you can't hurt politicians when they're accepted to be corrupt by those who voted for 'em

  • She was responding to the initial question, which was concerned with book burning a la Fahrenheit 451 in the present. With that in mind, censorship due to obscenity is very relevant.

He made his point. She wasn't disagreeing with him. He doesn't need her to further his point. She was making her own.

  • I love Vonnegut.

  • cool!

hay!!! goto my profile and msg my M.S.N name if u want to talk! Fo

  • Have any of you even read a book my Oates?

  • yes i have. Her books are good expecially the novels We Were The Mulvaneys and The Falls.

  • Kurt Had something to say, shame about what Joyce mumbled.

  • RIP Kurt. And thank you.

  • What did she do?

  • SHE WAS SPAWNED FORTH FROM THE GATES OF HELL THEMSELVES AND HER PRESENCE HAS HOUNDED ME EVER SINCE! AND YOU HAVE THE AUDACITY TO ASK ME WHAT, EXACTLY, SHE HAS DONE TO DESERVE HATRED? Well, fine, I admire audacity and so I will tell you (lean in closer, my child):

HER VERY EXISTENCE IS A HORRID TAINT ON THE FACE OF HUMANITY!!!!!

  • I'm impressed, you old man. You're wisdom is passing through me like the 2-grams of cocaine I had to snort just so I could complete one of those old hag's novels. If it wasn't for you, where would I be?

  • grow up

  • "except when we run out of food"

    LOL

  • God I hate middle class people. Such pretentiousness.

  • MMMHuh! and what class do you belong to? Untouchables?

  • God I hate pricks. So pompous.

  • God I hate the uneducated, always so jealous and spiteful, its sad.

  • Joyce Carol who??

  • Well, he tried. Do you think it's that they had to ignore what he was saying, or that they just didn't understand? (Or both)

  • Goob By Blue Monday

    God Bless You Mr. Vonnegut

  • haha funny

  • There is more....2 other clips of Kurt and Joyce Carol Oates. Any time listening to them is time well spent. Check em out.

  • so we see a short bit of film that wets the apetite and then ends...... rather pointless except that we see Kurts face and hear a few sentences. Sorry but in my oppinion a waste of time.

  • Goodbye Kurt. I'm sorry that you had to leave us when we need you the most.

  • so it goes

  • He Tried

  • Kurt will be greatly missed, but never forgotten...

  • po-de-weet...

  • So it goes.

  • Goodbye Blue Monday
