  • how much did it cost to build that motor? and do you know how much power it is making?

  • @fordstrummer

It was roughly $5200 and that's with buying the engine too. This truck had a 360 in it. It has been estimated at 300hp/400tq

  • Super tough motor! Had a 84 Ford f150 with 1 in it,,a sweet Truck with a sweet motor! Lotta pulling torgue in 1st gear

  • The 300 six has always been a motor that could pull and has been known for running long after 200,000. miles I have always been a fan of the 300.

  • @nevrenufhp what has been done to this motor to make it sound like this?

  • @2waystreet15

Ross Racing forged pistons 9.5:1, .030 over, Comp 268 Cam, Clifford aluminum Valve cover, Edelbrock 500 cfm 4v carb, Ford Racing 3x13 Air cleaner with Milled Ford logo. Ford Racing PCV and Oil caps (Chrome) Custom bent steel vacuum and fuel lines, C/o uncle Dale Offenhauser c series intake, Hedman header, MSD 6A, MSD Blaster II coil, Dura Spark II, Ford Racing 9mm Spk plg Wires, True duals (2.25"), Dual Flowmaster 50 series

  • @nevrenufhp where did u get that valve cover ?? what brand?? mail gdjmallison@gmail.com thanks

  • Badass!!! Those 300's had bullet proof bottom ends to begin with! I had 3 of em, fuckin great motors!

  • Awesome!!

  • Im sure it isn't much, but what kind of Gas mileage are you getting out of it?

  • @GunsmithMMG

mpg can always be better, but it gets roughly 17mpg per tankful on average.

  • @nevrenufhp Better than my bone stock OEM version. Mine is like 10 around town maybe 14 on the highway.

  • im wanting to make my 1992 cammed were can i find a cam to make it lope

  • @TheWelder7018

The fuel injection doesnt like much lope. About all you can get away with is the Comp 260(no lope), and a Crane split duration, but I cant remember which one they were using. Check fordsix forums.

  • I just got myself an edsel wagon and it comes witha v8 .i want too put an engine just like that one.i like the extra room in the compartment.hopefully i find somebody that will trade me.

  • Great! Thanks for the info. I have my eye on a '53 Ford F-100. I was going to go with a 351W based small block but I would really like to do something different. The 300 I-6 would be something different under the hood.

    Thanks for the info.

  • I bought an '87 F-150 brand new with the fuel injected version of the 300. I always wanted to do something like that with the motor. the 300 C.I. Ford six always impressed me. Great job on the motor build.

Comparitively speaking. Was the cost of the build similar to a SBF?

  • @srxplayer

Thanks, and yes it is a great package for the street. The cost? Over all, I'd say the 300 is $500-1000 more for the same build. But...at 300hp, the 300 is a monster compared to a 300hp 302.

  • @nevrenufhp Whered you find teh 4BBL intake? ive looked on 1000 websites and asked 100 part stores and they all told me they didnt have them

  • @billyiamm

Both Summit and Jegs have em. Here's summit's part number: OFY-6227C

I was a parts guy back in the 90s and I remember seeing them in the performance books.

  • @nevrenufhp Thank you! never thought of summit thats where we ordered the 6'' highrise for our chevy

  • It sounded like a V-8 there at 1st. I am impressed. The 300's are tough motors!

  • @nevrenufhp

what exact valves are in this? from what chevy engine? where can i get them?

  • @stevenpolk17 ...They are standard old Chevy 350 vlaves: 1.94 and 1.60. You can get them at nearly any parts store, or a machine shop.

  • @nevrenufhp what valve springs are you running. i have the same cam, sbc valves, and plan on running bbc rollers but i desperately need to know what valve springs to order so i can finish my motor.

  • @thewheeze

They were off the shelf springs for a small Chevy that the machine shop had. Just order the ones Comp recommends with this cam. Better yet, order the K-kit so you get the cam, lifters, springs, valve seals, and timing set

  • Comment removed

  • @nevrenufhp i already have the cam, but i got a another brand of lifters and timing gears. i thought that the springs and retainers had to be from a sbc because of the longer length valves. that would mean that i cant use the ones from the kit anyway. so, do you know the seat height and pressure? any part numbers that you could get me would be most helpful. i am really trying to wrap up this so i can move on to the brakes and suspension.

  • @nevrenufhp what valve springs are you running. i have the same cam, sbc valves, and plan on running bbc rollers but i desperately need to know what valve springs to order so i can finish my motor.

  • Awsome Truck man

  • look like you had to go with a taller cover . did you do this so the valves clear?

  • @amurican35

From what I remember, it was the adjuster nuts on the rocker arms that hit the stock cover. Yes, it was necessary to use the tall one. But it looks nice too.

  • @nevrenufhp

where did you get the valve cover?

  • @ThomasHarley1995

It's from Clifford, the 6=8 place. Took 3 months to get too.

  • what cam is it running? whats the lift? debating camming my i6 and doing a freshen up on it.

  • @prodigys10

It's a Comp 268 with .456 lift. It runs great at all rpm. It's what I would suggest. If you're going to get a cam, might as well be able to hear it.

  • lol not even a cross-flow engine. looks pretty sharp though.

  • I HAVE GOOSEBUMPS

  • will a header work with that intake becuase it looks like on mine that the intake and exauhst manifold are together?

  • @04yz125Man

Yes. Both this truck and my truck have the same header. Also, the intake is bolted to the exhaust manifold. It sends exhaust to warm up the intake. If you run a header with a 4bbl intake, it may run crappy when its cold. A couple ways to cure it are, run heater lines and make a block for the bottom side of the intake. And #2, get 2 sets of manifold heat risers.

  • Excellent. Good to see someone who didn't pull the six in favor of a V8. Love the 4.9.

  • @stonesour1973

And actually the opposite, took out the 360 V8 to put this 300 in.

  • What's the call number for this motor? All I know is it's a 300 ci (or 4.9L) inline six... Wikipedia doesn't even tell me lol did a couple Google searches too... I just call it "The Big Six"... but I'd like the actually designation...

  • @sentineloffreedom

Wiki has it listed with all the Ford sixes. They title it as "Ford Straight-6". You can find tons of other good info on fordsix dot com

  • @nevrenufhp Okie dokie, Thanks :) I'll check out that site. I love the motor! Got an old rusted out '75 F-100 out back with one in it. It's my next project to get her all fixed up and out on the road where she belongs! :) Love you're truck by the way!

  • how much power it hav

  • @calvins82

    I was quoted it's 300hp/400tq.

  • 360's are fuckin guttless anyways.. just as shitty as a cleveland!

  • @LilReddneck

A Cleveland is far from shitty. I would certainly not put one in a pickup, but a light car, they scream. I built a pretty nice one back in 94. Now, a 400 with cleveland heads, would go in a half ton pickup, maybe pulling light loads. This 300 in the video? It does anything you want... drags, cruising, towing, commuting.

  • @nevrenufhp alot of people I know that had a cleveland said they'll run pretty good, but not for too long until they go to shit. but they're too damn exspensive especially when you have a built 350 chevy whoopin your ass down the track with half the money put into it I just don't like a cleveland because cost to build is too rediculous and I would build a 460 alot faster especially since I;ve seen alot more round here than a damn cleveland.

  • @LilReddneck clevo hater

  • @RobStaniford sorry. but yeah. just not a big fan of it.. maybe a 302 351 400 or 460 deffinately..

just haven't heard much good about a cleveland. especially how much they are to build IF you can find one.. I was thinkin bout an old 74 or 75 ford truck with a 351. but I saw a "C" word behind it and was like UHHH... naww. I'll stick with what I know more about... but you may have better luck with a cleveland. I dunno, just not a fan like I said.

  • I want a engine just like it for my highboy. Those engine can't be beat. No timing chain, no timing belt. Gear to gear!!

  • idle sounds good but reving it sounds like shit

  • I am stuck between going with the long process of fuel injection, or the Offenhauser or clifford intake with a 4bbl carb. Any Preferences?

  • @dirtastegood

Simplicity and power potential goes to the 4bbl. The EFI may get 1mpg better.

  • @nevrenufhp How would you swap it from the 1bbl carb to a 4bbl carb right now i have 1bbl on my 81 F100

  • @SoAdROX00

You have to buy an Offy or Clifford intake for a 4bbl. then, get a 4bbl carb. I used a piece of 1/4" all thread and ball sockets for the throttle.

  • @dirtastegood go with the offenhauser intake, had one on my 1980 f100 2wd. intake with 500cfm 4bbl. dont switch to a 302 V8 like i did unless you plan on building it, 300I6 has alot more torque.

  • @sucha603boy Right off the bat do you notice the difference when running the intake and carb?

  • I imagine this thing don't piss on torque. he he.

  • @donbomb92

Yea, it makes right around 400 pounds of tork

  • whast all this talk about heads? what do you have for a head on that thing? id like to soup up my 300, how much did this cost ya ..er your nephew?

  • @PoorUglyBastards4x4

It's the stock head with a few minor things, like new/ bigger valves, and stiffer springs. This cost him around $5000, but that includes a rebuilt C6.

  • where did you get the valve cover?

  • @killakobra

The valve cover is from Clifford. You know.....6=8

  • @nevrenufhp i've looked for one but i guess they don't make them anymore. i guess i'll deal with the stock one painted up a little.

  • If you're running the Cyclone headers, get an X-pipe. It's good for a few more horses, and some extra torque too. Keep the exhaust 2.5 inches all the way out the back, too.

  • you could try researching about the australian alloy crossflow head from xd/xe/xf falcons. I do believe they can be made to flow very well, and i've seen a holden 202 six with the falcon crossflow head modified (and backwards i think!) on youtube to fit for superior flow. just youtube 250 crossflow and u should see aussie falcons and cortinas with them. chances are it'd be just as difficult as the the 2 or 3 v8 heads trick, but have a look. Awesome 300 though, u yanks are lucky!

  • Maybe it's the modern era, but the 6 cyl engine impresses me more than the 390/460 versions of this truck.

  • That thing sound vicious! Stock 300s (including mine) sound ricey with the exhaust opened up, but this thing, WOW!

  • SWEET!!

  • I would love to do that to my 300 6

  • Good grief, Im getting a heart throb for that truck.

  • dayam!!!

  • How does this run!? sounds like a big block!

  • @JProckz28

It runs great! Puts shame to many chevy boys around town, even new stock Dodge diesels.

  • @JProckz28

It runs great! Puts shame to many chevy boys around town, even new stock Dodge diesels.

  • @nevrenufhp what kind of horse power and torgue rating do u get have u put it on a dyno

  • @bobwatters

Roughly, 300hp and 400 for tq. It hasn't been on a dyno, but sure would be nice to know the raw numbers.

  • @nevrenufhp those are some good numbers is there more u can do to this motor while keepin it n/a

  • @bobwatters

There's lots more that could be done, but money is the limiting factor, as with any build. The main power secret is in the head. There's been many attempts to get 2 V8 heads welded together, but the intake and exhaust manifolds must be kustom made. There's also a place in australia that may be making a hi flow aluminum head. It's been a few years in the making.

  • @nevrenufhp damn i hope that head comes out it sounds sweet but yea money is allways the limiting factor and im sure that head would be pretty expensive

  • @nevrenufhp they allready make em the ya u can make a head buy using 3 middle sections of a 302 or 351 but its easier to just buy the new aluminum 300inline head thats in jegs ,summit

  • @fordboy111591

I just looked, and there isn't any listing for an aftermarket head on Jegs or Summit. Is it from CHI? The one they talked about on fordsix?

  • does anybody know how i can get ride of my blowby hose that runs to the air cleaner? i tried putting a filler cap on it without the hose and it seemed to have so much blow by it caused my dipstick to move up out of its tube? doin gthis wont blow a gasket or anything?

  • @bunker2k1

If it's that much blow by, it's time for a rebuild. It will blow out seals if you dont give it a way out.

  • wtf you feeding this thing thats evil for a straight six excellent work!!

  • I'm going to be building a 300 for my truck, did you do any port work to your head and what head are you using a efi head or a carbed head. I ask because there is a big difference in the chamber size between the two. Same with the pistons between the two. My idea was to use a efi head with carbed pistons to raise the compression. I just have to figure out how much it's going to increase it.

  • No port work done, and probably should have, but it runs pretty good as is. It's a carbed 80s head. Have you poked around forsix? They have a few piston combos that work well. Either a 351W or 352FE piston is used as a cheap compression bump. The ones in this 300 are custom forged by Ross.

  • What trans do you have in this? And that obviously isn't a one barrel carb on there

  • It's a C6 with a stock converter, and a shift kit. The 1 barrel got dumped in favor of the Edelbrock 4bbl.

  • That is a sick looking motor. Sounds ballsy man, keep up the good work!

  • you liking that MSD 6a box?

  • no issues for over 3 years now.

  • where did you get the header and how mcuh

  • Got it at Summit, but it will hit the frame on a 67-72. It's a Hedman, I think it was $150. Makes a nice difference in power when coupled to a 2 or 4bbl intake.

  • @nevrenufhp how much and where did you get the cam im thinking of getting a '86 f150 with the 300 and i know i wanna cam it etc. because its gonna be pullin 35+ boggers

  • 66-248-4 is the part number. You can find it at Summit, Jegs, or just about any parts store. Works great with a stock torque converter.

  • @nevrenufhp thanks man i love your truck

  • i put a hedman header on my '77. i had to drop a crossmember and put the starter in while the headers were half way in. it was a huge pain in the ass but the sound and performance was worth it

  • how much power are you getting out of that now?

  • Should be roughly 300hp/400tq

  • what kinda mpgs you get with that power?

  • roughly 17, with mostly city driving.

  • ok sold on that. what did pistons run you? Any rods or anything? Are these engines overhead valve? I know it's a stupid question I haven't seen one for over 3 years and back then i didn't know anything more than it had the covers on the side of the block like a flathead tractor motors had.

  • They are Ross forged pistons, running 9.5:1, and were about $900. You can also use factory 8.2:1 pistons and a 240 head to bump it up over 9:1, which really makes a difference in mpg. The red truck in my other videos gets 12 mpg in town. All stock internals, but the same intake, carb & header as this one. The rods are factory. Yes, OHV. They are very tractor like in the way they run. Torque is there from idle up to 4k on a stock engine like the red truck and 5200 on this one.

  • I have an F150 with the 300 stock, I cant believe this one with the dualies, man it sounds like a cammed out V8...Nice job on the motor, looks great! Way cool.

  • I just got a 82 Ford with a 300 6 cylinder. Those engines are bad ass. Good for cold starts. im thinking of getting new parts for it.

  • You should pamper it a little with some new stuff. It's like a reward for being reliable.

  • Badass sound.

There isn't a ricer in the nation you couldn't slaughter, even with that slushomatic wasting half the torque curve.

I'd put that engine in my '85 F150. I'd need a stronger trans, tho, my overdrive 4-speed would explode.

  • where did you find the roller cam and rockers

  • It's not a roller cam, but there's a guy on fordsix that's making a few. The roller rockers are actually for a 302 pedestal mount. Had to use these because the head was already installed, and any other rocker would require machining. Since it spins under 5500, and valve springs arent that stiff, I didnt see the issue with running this type. This head is off an 82. The older ones are easier to run rollers on. Just about every cam mfr makes em for a 300, just gotta look.

  • Oh, I backtracked the older replies and go the answer.

Hopefully someone makes a direct injection conversion head for the 300-6.

Wonder if it is possible with the pushrod setup.

I saw a website that sells drag racing heads only for the 300-6.

    Anyway, nice video, again.

  • Are the rockers roller or pedestal?

    Block cryo-treated?

    PIstons forged?

    Rods stock?

    Headers or dual cast manifolds?

Come on, tell uas about it.

I got the same engine, but just 1 bbl.

Fantastic mileage, but slightly slow on hills.

  • This is part of the build spex, as noted in the first reply:

Ross Racing forged pistons 9.5:1, .030 over

    Hedman header

Crane full roller rockers for a pedestal mount 302

no special treatment to rods or block.

  • i gots a 300 I6 bored out 60 with cam and four barrel 480. shit sounds like a bb

  • this block is a BB....

  • I want to get my 300l to sound like some of the 240s ive herd run, that sound just like a big camed out 450 BB. My trucks stock right now, what size cam should i put in my truck, and wat size headers? and wat mufflers too?

  • check out clifford research. they got everything.

  • i'm wondering where or what to look for when going after market on a straight six

  • We got most of our stuff from Summit, but you can use them, Jegs, or even most local parts stores.

What you look for depend son what you want out of it. Stop by one of the forums like fordsix

  • wouldn't they flame for having a chevy six?

  • How much torque is this thing throwing out?

  • Roughly 400 pound ft, or pretty dern close.

  • Holy fuck man, That's crazy. Auto or stick?

  • it's a C6 auto with a shift kit. It'll squeal the tires with a yard of gravel in the bed.

  • what engine mods have you done besides the cam? ive got a 65 f-100. just lookin for some ideas to play around with

  • It's listed in the 1st reply. The only thing that really should've been done that wasnt, would be porting the head.

  • In my younger days I'd rather have a v8 ,but now I'm 53 yrs old and the way the economy is and gas prices I'll take a straight six anyday. lol.

  • inline six is the best engine

  • Those are surprising 6's. 7 main bearings, and forged cranks available. They like to crack pistons, but forged ones will cure that. About 30 years ago, Ak Miller drove a 1966 Mustang with a big 6 to bonneville, uncorked his headers, ran 145 mph both ways. Then corked up and went home. Nice.

  • when it revs it doesn't sound good at all.

  • its because of video quality

  • wow that is prettey much the same setup i got on my 84 bronco but i have a truck avenger 470 carb

  • god damn that's got some compression

  • Hom much horse power??

  • Roughly 300hp, or just shy of it.

  • Dude, that is cool, the farm truck from hell !

  • baddest inline 6 made

  • what is the gas milage like? im interested

  • He tells me 17mpg tankful average, but depending on driving habits, could go down fast. Mine is the red 67 F100 in my other videos, and it is all stock internally, and gets 12 in town, and 14 in the highway. Raising compression, and getting the timing right makes all the difference in keeping good mpg....other than doing the bolt on performance stuff.

  • Where did he get his cam? I can't find one anywhere! Is there a source for them on the net?

  • 66-248-4 is the part number. You can find it at Summit, Jegs, or just about any parts store.

  • I'm sure with a more economy cam it'd get about 20+

  • Great sound!!!!!!! KOOL!!

  • wonder aprox how much for the performance upgrades total?

  • I think he said it was around $5k, that's including the trans rebuilt.

  • DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMNNNN!!!!

    That is beautiful!

    Love the I6

  • Torque is around 400 pounds, it launches pretty hard off the line. As soon as you hit the pedal it wants to go. Not too much trouble passing at all.....according to my nephew.

The valve cover is from Clifford, it took 3-4 months of backorder to get it. Words of wisdom: Dont order one between Halloween and New Year's.

  • where you get that valve cover?

  • What's the torque like in that monster??? Feel good off the line? How about passing cars?

    Just curious. :))

  • My dad was actually considering dropping a 300 I6 in our 76 F250 awhile back ago... But he also considered a 12 valve cummins and a 4-53 detroit diesel haha

  • They're all good! Go for different, and try a Ford (New Holland)6.6 and run big injectors & pump & turbo(or 2)!

  • HOw much did that intake manifold cost, along wtih that 4 barrel carb?

How much were those headmen headers?

  • The intake was right at $200, the carb was about $240, and the header was around $170.

  • That's one nice sounding Ford 300 I-6. One day our '68 300 I-6 we be built past it's factory 170 HP rating.

  • sounds great man...300 i6 is the best motor that will ever be made...hands down!

  • que motor!!! jojojo

  • I am doing my 240 now do you have a cam suggetion on a stock engine with a manual trans, i would like a little more giddy up

  • 240?

    As in Z?

I'm building one right now, with a big Delta Cams regrind.

    .480 Intake; .490 Exhaust lift...

  • kind of funny you tok out a V8 for a 6 but that thing sounds bad ass! My dad's truck has the same engine, I wanna do this to it :D

  • damn......that is a wicked 6 cyl!!!

  • dude that 300 sounds like what i want mine 2 sound its still factory 84 4x4 4speed with granny 1st itll pull the gates off hell but not 2 gud on speed

  • cuz that truck sounds great. i would like to know how your 300 is set up and how your exaughst is set up. i know u have a clifford intake and probably headers. im fixin to take a 240 out of a 66 short bed and hop up a 300 to put in.

  • The 300 is setup as listed in the very first comment. It has a header that splits to dual 2.25 inch collectors, then true dual out to the tail. One pipe runs across at the rear of the engine, then out to the back. The mufflers are just in front of the rear axle. I like them Slick side (65 & 66) F trucks!

  • One Bad Ass 300!

  • beast. that is pretty sweet i got a 1980 ford f100 with one of those motors. it don't sound like that. how much power are you making?

  • It's making roughly 300hp/ 400tq, or just shy of it.

  • Does the cam makes a diffrence in exhuast loudness vs stock?

  • It is a little louder than a stock truck. We ran this truck open header to break in the cam. It's for sure louder than my 67 in the "ford 300 open header" video.

  • Why would you put a cam in an engine that was made for torque?

  • The power comes in right at the stock stall speed of the C6's torque converter. It makes power from 1200 to around 5200, which is a broader range than a stock 300. I wouldn't want to put this cam with a manual trans & highway gears!

  • i dont get y you guys took out the 360 4 that more power

  • A tired 360 making 200hp(at best), and 10mpg. And we put in a 300hp, 300 that gets 15-17mpg, I just dont get it either. Plus, did it to be a little different. Not everyone is happy with a Chevy 350 or Ford 302.

  • ya i hate ppl who put 350's in these they re stupid but ya thats cool breaking the trend and doin somethin different, sounds very good

  • this has gotta be the most badest ass 300 i have ever heard!!

  • Wow, that sounds awesome. Is that with no muffler, or some special exhaust kit?

  • read the description dumb ass

  • man nice truck! i truly wish it was mine :-)
