  • I can't think of any male who isn't moved by her voice. God bless Liki.

  • Whatever happened, make no mistake that this wee lassie lived a life, left her mark and will never be forgotten.

Like Oogie said below, if she still stirs, be it that someone, somewhere is keeping the firepit warm and welcoming for her. Maybe, (some)God willing, her spirits are thus bright.

We Love You Likky, and always will...

  • It is not a painting we are talking about. it is the soul. I believe the best drama, the best art, the best music is about the soul of that presence, that being however brief, that we are.

  • E with an F# (pinky on 4th fret of D string) to Am with a B (pinky on 4th fret of G string).

  • I have no idea of her eventual fate, but I will tell you that this story of disappearing into the Arizona desert is extremely unlikely. Have you ever seen the Arizona desert? Who in their right mind would walk into that? Likki was very sweet and artistic and naive in a way, but she would not take a suicide walk into a 120 degrees snake and scorpion pit and die next to some cactus, as though that's some kind of whimsical ISB adventure. Its a rumor. I think she got REALLY disillusioned and....

  • ...wanted to start over somewhere.

Anecdote: she had Robin's hand painted guitar. I offered her everything I had for it, but she wouldn't part with it for anything in the world. One time she pulled it out at a get together and sat on the steps and sang a song called "Old Songs and Cottages". It was incredible, her on these stone steps in the evening playing Robin's painted guitar. I remember the first two chords only and I still strum them often.

  • Which two chords? :)

  • @GreatBigChangeComin

I find that hard to believe. Robin recently said that the paint job on that guitar was stripped during repairs in the late 70s. He also said that he had to replace the guitar in 1972 because it was basically unplayable. According to Robin he still owns the guitar. Either Licorice was lying or you have things mixed up.

  • She is well. great painting!

  • I do not know for sure that she is ok . I am going on what I read on a website forum whose members track down missing persons. I read that she just wants to stay out of the public life. Hopefully, this is true.

  • I was friends with Likki in the early 1980s in LA. I used to go to parties at her house in the Hollywood Hills, she'd sing and play for us. We wrote some songs together. She was every bit as sweet and gentle a girl as you think. What you hear on the records is real. The pictures on the album covers, that's Likki. I lost touch with her, I wish I knew where she was.

  • Please expand upon this , can you tell us her eventual fate ? Sketch out a memory , anecdote of Likki .

  • True masters of the craft..,.awesome

  • never mind all this technical stuff about painting. where is she now?

  • A subscriber of mine asked specifically about all that "technical stuff" , and if you read the comments above you'd see we're working on the "where" too .

  • Licorice sings like an angel and haunts my soul - I hope she is well and happy.

  • I'll try to concisely lay out some of the steps:

1.Prime (tone) whole canvas evenly with light grey or monochrome color. Use lots of Medium and big flat brushes to get a light , even spread.

2.Let dry completely ( the thinner the layer the sooner it will dry -usually a day )Draw composition on canvas with pencil .

3."shade" in the dark areas with a very thin , darker version of your base (priming ) colour and a lighter version for the highlights.

  • 4. Now we have a B&W or monochrome version of the final colour painting' .Let it dry , and then "glaze" it with very thin colours , building layer after layer , drying , layering , leaving the brightest lights and colours till it "glows." It is imprtant to keep those glazes thin or they will tend to obscure the original drawing.

    5. Lastly , use thicker oil for the brights and final layers . This is called painting "fat over lean" and has been the traditional method for centuries.

  • Of course this is just one way of painting , and every work may require a different approach , but looking at your art I think this would be a good starting point for you. Get artist grade oil brushes fom an art supply , you will enjoy painting so much more and will get better results , also brushsoap and KEEP those brushes clean , that is most of the work in oil painting haha . (I can go futher into how to wash the brushes if you need.) Keep many rags on hand and be Patient & Disciplined .

  • what's that blue stuff you put at first??

  • Grey /blue oil paint , thinly glazed , to tone the underpainting.

  • oh... i see...

you're really good at oil painting...

i tried to do an oil painting before but i don't know the nessesary steps... i only used a rug to paint on. haha! i have a 3 year old canvas and i'm too scared to paint on it. i mean oil paints and canvas and brushes are expensive. i don't want to waste them. i ruined a lot of brushes painting that oil painting because i used a brush for watercolor. (T_T)

  • Canvas is no good just sitting there . Treat it like a throw-away experiment , and you might end up with something you really like . I can explain step by step for those who are interested , but first they must get over their fears of "Oil Painting"

  • hmmm....

it would be really cool if you'd explain step by step... I guess I'm just afraid becasue i don't know the necessary steps.. I don't even know what types of brushes to use or how to clean brushes.... heehee!!

  • ...!) i wish i had this painting..!!!...

  • You Can!!! buy it or comission one like it .

  • The best number on the best album, Earthspan.

  • What a gorgeous painting of a lovely and unique woman. I know that there's little hope that she is still with us, but I pray that she found peace and is happy wherever her soul may be.

  • I hope taht this video can become a forum for finding her , obviously there is alot of concern for this beautiful lady. Anyone know what Robin has to say about any of this?

  • According to a documentary from a few years ago none of the former Incredibles know any more than the rest of us. Her sister's last contact was a letter sent from Sacramento, CA in 1990. The story seems to be that she walked alone into the desert in 1990--and not a word since. I'm sure there's thousands of us out here just praying that she's okay, but the evidence seems weighted against it.

  • There is now a post from Toronto: 'Licorice is missing'...although some of the facts are skewed...be aware, her accent is unmistakable, and I'm sure her family missses her...

  • What a beautiful painting. I hope that she is content, wherever she may be. Thank you for this beautiful portrait, so true to her voice and spirit.

Would somebody be kind enough to tell me the name of this song? It isn't on any of the ISB albums I have. Her voice and the theme of the journey both draw me to it.

    Curiously,

    Hermester

  • I hope that replying to one's own post is not discourteous, but I did a bit of research and discovered that the tune playing is, of course, "Banks of Sweet Italy" from Earthspan--an album to which I never listened more than once or twice , and which I have not heard for far too long. Hearing this sweet music makes me wonder why!

Thank you, Colin, for bringing this song into my ken once more!

More knowledgeable but no less curious than before,

    Hermester

  • You are so very welcome . Have you seen the movie "Be Glad" ? There are some beautiful scenes with licorice in them .

  • What a voice she had.

I'd love to own this painting.

  • Wonderful - thank you

"but me and licorice saw the last of them....."

  • Oh, how beautiful, I can remember the first time I saw Likky, I had paid 32/6d for a front stalls seat at the Festival hall and she was looking gorgeous in a dress of silk, and how she (and Rose ) sang. Happy times!

  • Will somone please look in on the wee lass, see that she does not lack for the basic necessities, that her spirits are yet bright?

  • Magnificent!

  • wow unbelievable...i wonder where she went to these days? anyways i love the painting and the song is amazing..keep it up

  • Magical!

  • Geezer, you have so much talent. Also great taste, I absolutely love the Incredible String Band!

  • Wonder if it's true about the Scientologists making poor Miss Licorice "disappear"? Guess she couldn't pay her bill for enlightenment.

  • You have an extraordinary talent. Great to see how you construct the image and bring it to life in layers.
