@ I agree with your point that Beethoven's music is more complex than Bieber's- only Bieber is a guy. But I can see how you might be confused because Bieber's voice is rather high :P
Other than their last names start with a B, there is no similarity between Bieber and Beethoven. Anyone who thinks Beethoven wasn't a genius as never spent a year perfecting the playing of one single one of his Sonatas. BTW, this is one of his easiest.
@dncviorel How could you not consider Beethoven a genius? He could perform publically at the age of seven (bearing in mind this is the 18th century, not modern Asia where everbody is a prodigy), he could write music at the age of nine. His music was firstly published at the age of thirteen, he studied piano with the master, Joseph Haydn, he would improvise at international competitions and "Whipe the floor with the other pianists heads,", whilst composing the most beautiful music. Not a genius?
Straightforward, excellent sample from the classical period in a strict Sonata Form, first movement. The pianist understands thoroughly all the rules and plays accordingly. Magnificent work! It's truly remarkable, that you can find works, such as this on you tube. Thank you.
Justin Bieber is a pop star who sings pop songs. Nothing wrong with that. But Beethoven was a master of music who composed the greatest music ever. Why compare them? It's silly. Justin Bieber probably wouldn't dare compare himself to Beethoven.
@Timeofchords Not necessarily. The term "popular music" was really only coined in the second half of the 20th century when the direction of composed music split. The modernists went one way and the invention of different mediums and media (i.e. "pop" music") went the other. It just so happens that jazz, rock, RnB etc. happen to be more aesthetically popular to the most people.

I think both Bieber and Beethoven are good musicians, no matter what, only different times.Beethoven then, Bieber now, and that's only the truth. You don't have to agree with me, I'm just saying a fact.
@dncviorel I can't believe you say that. If Bieber was alive in Beethoven's time he would be Beethoven's servant. You think Bieber could compose anything on the level of something like Beethoven's 9th? Don't forget Beethoven was deaf when he wrote that. If Bieber was deaf he would be on the street begging for money. The reason Bieber is famous is because people today are so fucking stupid it's the only music they can understand. I'm just saying fact.
@pianistic61 I hate saying this and i think Bieber should send me some flowers for doing this but she can actually sing since shes not tone-deaf. And she herself can probably hear that Beethovens music is much more elaborate and complicated than her own in comparison to "normal" people who listen to "music" like dubstep. Sure i like the noise of dubstep and i might like listening to it but i wouldn't really call it music, just like with what Bieber shits out her ass.
@Thieflyfe I'm jealous of Daniel Barenboim. Someone who produces beautiful music so effortlessly. I'm not jealous of that attention whore. Go somewhere else please.
@dncviorel That's not the fact, Beuber is a very famous musician, not a good one, just very very popular... You can't simply put them both on the same page. But you can't even put in the same page Justin Beiber with someone of his time like Rzewski, now that's a good musician! And not that famous right?
@veliusmemnoch I'm not even trying to put Bieber and Beethoven on the same page, because they lived in different times. But I'm just saying that in my opinion Bieber is a strong musician in our life time as it was Beethoven in his life time. They are both great musicians, but in different lifetimes. It's only a fact, I'm not inventing the wheel or anything.
@dncviorel Well he may be strong I guess... But in any other leve you can't compare theme... I bet Beiber can't compose a symphonic score. That's all I'm saying, there are levels... He's NOT A GREAT MUSICIAN... The culture has changed, but even today you can't just say he is a great musician...
@dncviorel Bieber is talented at singing in general- but you can't say his music has the depth or complexity that Beethoven's music has. That's why people consider Beethoven a genius.
Look guys- we all know Beethoven's secret was the way he figured out Poo-exiting-your-bum-cheeks sounds exactly the same as a crackling fire... shh... just listen..
I think it's played a little too quickly, or at least the beginning. Still a great interpretation of a beautiful song.
P.S. Bieber doesn't even compose, he only sings what his managers write for him. It's like comparing an elementary school art project to the works of Van Gogh or Monet. Absurd.

@aleksandardukic13 I think a lot of Beethoven's music is set at insane speeds too, it's just that modern music tends to wanna slow that down because modern pianos have a longer decay time per note, so the music gets mushed together if you play it at the insane speed..?
I've always wanted to learn how to play the piano; I never knew that such sounds can come out of it. I thank God that there has been a man such as Ludwig Van Beethoven!
@spoon149 they are both wonderful. They both bring different things to the table. There is no need to make comparisons. They are both so different but so beautiful. There is enough room in my heart for both of them. :)
why do all piano players try to hide the dissonances??? Soo annoying. Beethoven didn't mean that. Beethoven loved dissonances and of course wanted them to be heard. A minor second is a beautiful intense interval, and as a performer people should think of them as part of the music. Otherwise awesome performance. Well it is barenboim.
@SugarCrazedInsomniac I agree. Even though I hate Justin Beiber, I think that comparing a pop singer and a classical composer is stupid. I honestly have no idea why your comment got so many negative votes

@AnqingX IKR?? not to mention Beethoven is still known HUNDREDS of years later, his music still lives, he still composed all by himself even AFTER he went deaf...Lets see JB manage to accomplish something like that, and be famous hundreds of years later. THEN he can be compared....
This is really a good recording. I like to hear that because it is one of my favourite pieces. I also found some new articulations which I did not use to do. It is brilliant.
@Suicider12, When the FIFA World Cup was on, Youtube made a little prank and put a little soccer ball on youtube and whenever you click it, it makes a horn sound. I think it's called a Vuvuzela..or something like that. Youtube just did a joke. :P
i am trying to learn this i'm 14 and its way fun to play and to learn even tho its hard its just fun to play. dunno why maybe james rhodes gets me siked over beethoven he is my favourite
Your description is wrong sir, I think you MEANT to say the opening of this piece sounds like the opening of the fourth movement of Mozart's 25th symphony. :P The first movement of that symphony is the idea that Rachmaninoff borrowed for his 3rd piano concerto. ;)
Currently learning this song for nyssma this year. The notes may look simple but the fast rhythms and dynamics are definitely going to be a bit of a challenge for me. This is the best interpretation I've heard so far on Youtube in my opinion.
To the music, I just think this is a fabulous intro when it relates to the fourth movement. It obviously isn't the hardest thing that he ever wrote but that only interests pianists anyway. It is a well formed sonata and the magic in Beethoven is how you play it not whether you can or can't. 1st movement Moonlight is one of the hardest pieces in the world, the amount of people I've heard butcher it, only a few really play it. This piece opens the joy that is Beethoven Sonatas, I am thankful. X
I really do NOT like this in 2/2 time, it is not how Beethoven wrote it, and it ruins it. If you've ever heard it in it's original time, it is amazingly beautiful. This sounds like fast-forwarded cartoon music played this way. Beethoven is probably screaming NO in his grave. Listen to an original version of this and you will agree.
This piece is not difficult at all, but I love the melody. Beethoven rocks the 17th century, as well as now. For me, it didn't take too long to learn the whole piece, but it did take time for myself to get it to the right tempo and dynamics.

@AnqingX IKR?? not to mention Beethoven is still known HUNDREDS of years later, his music still lives, he still composed all by himself even AFTER he went deaf...Lets see JB manage to accomplish something like that, and be famous hundreds of years later. THEN he can be compared....
*sigh* fans these days have no damn respect

@AnqingX I don't know about Beethoven being the greatest, but his work is definitely superior to that of Justin Biebers.

Beethoven or Lady Gaga? Lol jk, don't even answer that question... there's no need.
pboxinator 1 year ago
Your description is wrong sir, I think you MEANT to say the opening of this piece sounds like the opening of the fourth movement of Mozart's 25th symphony. :P The first movement of that symphony is the idea that Rachmaninoff borrowed for his 3rd piano concerto. ;)

Currently learning this song for nyssma this year. The notes may look simple but the fast rhythms and dynamics are definitely going to be a bit of a challenge for me. This is the best interpretation I've heard so far on Youtube in my opinion.
babigurl10546 1 year ago

Listen to an original version of this and you will agree.
jannieja 1 year ago
@jannieja what is the original time?
anividz 1 year ago
@jannieja Beethoven definitely wrote it in 2/2. I don't know what you're thinking.

This piece is not difficult at all, but I love the melody. Beethoven rocks the 17th century, as well as now. For me, it didn't take too long to learn the whole piece, but it did take time for myself to get it to the right tempo and dynamics.
