Rock loistaa poissaolollaan. Menty varman ja kuivahkon akateemisen musiikin aidan ali.
I sang in a back-up choir with Rajaton when they visited UWO and got a chance to watch their entire concert. They are tremendously skilled in that style and excellent performers, but I agree that some elements of this rendition and performance are lacking. Most of the individual lines don't show off the singers strengths. It picks up around 4:20, but for the most part I think more attention was spent recreating the instrumental component than tailoring the song to Rajaton.
Definitely strong performers, but generally so is Rajaton, just not in this particular video. And although Fork's arrangement is more creative, Rajaton are hands down superior singers, it's just that this particular song doesn't really show you that.
It's a bit nerdy (especially the male voices in the beginning) and the finglish is a bit disturbing. Shame they didn't iron out the pronounciation detail to perfection. Otherwise a very good piece.
Nörde-pointti on kyllä naulan kantaan.
I love Rajaton, and I found watching this video fascinating. However, I just couldn't get over the feeling that a lot of it was kind of lame. I really prefer Rajaton doing what they do best - singing complex vocal arrangements - and the whole first part of the song was just a series of solos. The only way you can do it with an orchestra, really. Plus when they were singing harmonies I found the orchestra nearly drowned them out. Still, interesting to watch!
I should correct myself - the part of the song starting with "Mama just killed a man" was all solos. Of course there's harmonies in the intro section.

I also have to say that I have greatly enjoyed a lot of Rajaton's work, but this I find just academic kitsch. I can't get the point of the interpretation. It definetly lacks all the power that is rock or the wonderful outrageosity of Freddy Mercury, but it's still just a cover, no new ideas. Professional, greatly sung, but high school stuff in it's spirit.
been reading the comments and all i have to say is( and this is being really really picky) queen didn't(or couldn't) recreate the huge blocks of vocals they had on their records, THAT SAID, i watch and still watch a lot of live freddie stuff, and no one can match his "tenacity"? with or without the backgrounds and harmonies of the records
That's just the thing that's amazing about Queen: it took a symphony orchestra, a well trained professional a cappella group and some 35 years even to come THIS close =)
While this is great, and probably some of the best cover work around, I am still much more a fan of their original compositions, and hope they put more work in that direction in the future. More albums!
Onks toi Lennikalle? Kuulostaa hyvältä, tai siis ainakin näyttää?! Kuulostaa Iirolta, näyttää Lennikallelta eli vaikuttaa täydelliseltä. Ei sen kääpiön sähläystä ja.... öö, iiro vois vetää kaiken. Hoho. Nähään taas seuraavalla keikalla! T: känniLexus

I like this song, but I like Fork´s version more. Fork is also finnish accapella band O_O . Imo they are better performers.

It definitely is amazing. But sometimes the changes in octave take away from the power of the song. I understand why they do it though...
