I have a friend in special forces. Believe me they are devils! They had to be,otherwise U cannot beat the LTTE. They had good teams like this! But the LRRP I know had many Tamils,Muslims apart from army was not in regular enlisted force,and were so secrative,most were informants.They all were exposed under Ranils govt and mostly killed by LTTE during"peace" time! Without doubt the ultimate warriors of this age. Sri lankan army special forces are the best guerrilla unit in the world. The green berets, navy seals, delta force, rangers, SAS, Spetnaz, israeli commandos, dont stand a chance against these hardened war veterans who do not need fancy gadgets, just their mental toughness to win the war on terror. As I say it before one cannot just say that these guys are the best special forces unit in the world. There is no such ranking method available to my understanding to categorize special forces units around the world.
However these guys are really really good. So as the SEALS, delta force, SAS, GIGN, SGS9 etc. I salute these guys as well as all the other special forces units around the world.

And they were the only army to beat the most dangerous terrorist org in the world. Did the americans find Bin Laden? no they didnt. But the sri lankans managed to crush the LTTE. The sri lankan soldiers have way more battle experience, and that is a more important factor than anything else.also delta gt beat in mogadishu.
What you say about the Americans is true, however you should know that Afganistan is a way more larger country than Sri Lanka. I couldnt imagine Sri Lankan forces with their logistics trying to find Tamil Tiger leader in a country like Afganistan. Still I think there is no way to prove that SL SF guys are the best in the world, however the most reasonable way to put it is that SL SF are one of the best in the world with their excellent record of kills against the enemy.
I've read some of the comments and find some tobe queationable. Here are some facts about the men in S.O.G., L.R.R.P., and Ranger. All have to be Volunteers. #1...Volunteer for the Army. Not drafted! #2...Volunteer for Jump school. Not send there by orders from some chair borne REMF! #3... Volunteer for LRRP. Ranger as an Unit did not exsist until later during the war. What do exsist is Airborne Ranger assigned to the line companies.
My father was in vietnam and he was a LRRP. He was seriously wounded in combat and is retired early due to PTSD. I am a wreck and dad tries to take the blame but theres not a snowballs chance in hell its his fault. Amazing bravery to spy on battalions like they did.
hah, My grandfather told me a couple of stories, about being a LRRP in vietnam, he was also the RTO for the unit, they're was a disagreement about who would take point one day, he said f*** it I will, and started fast pacing, Ran smack dead into a enemy VC with RPG in hand and a round in the other hand, him being an RTO with his weight he fell on his ass, pointed his rifle and said (dan po) Run now or w/e, they we're they're scouting 2 villages (more to continue)
Well, the VC Kid took off to the left, and when the team caught up to my grandfather he said VC and pointed to the right, Lets get out of here, they called in a Evac. and when he got on the chopper, he called in an airstrike on both the villages.
My grandfather also suffers from PTSD, he was hit with agent orange he had to call it in, For your father to survive as a LRRP is remarkable thing, Salute him for me and my grandfather, My grandfather told me many accounts, out of his 5 man teams, he we'd be the only one to come home, Mad respect and love to the LRRPs and Special Forces of todays armed services
@MagnaSlash101 No, Today you may do LRRPS but LRRPs was a program during Vietnam, it was the predecessor ( or may of been taught by) Rangers. Being a LRRP you were a LRRP, and the men in vietnam knew it, cause these are the guys who were in the jungle for 3-4 weeks and come back looking like shit, yet no one fucked with them. But my Grandfather became a Kid Carson scout after the LRRPs was integerated into a tactic, and he's indian so he despised Kid Carson scout.

My grandfather was in Vietnam 68-70, he was 4th Infantry, LRRP, RTO.. he was 23 when drafted. His nickname was mouse, he wore black and white tiger camo's and flew with the BlackJack's... in 68 or 69 not sure week or month, Stars and Stripes took a photo of him returning from mission, he turned away, but it became the cover image for that issue.
Espically when his first firefirght engagement, he was one of 16 that survived in his company.. thats when he said get me into something else, well he became a LRRP, he also had a Montinyard (sp?) scout that he took with him everywhere, I got a pic of them in Plekui, the kid is 14 at the time my grandfather 24, the Kid served with the US 2 years before he teamed up with my Grandfather.

LRRP is not a unit its an abbreviation, it stands for Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol. Its how they call the mission in general imo (like you have Search & Destroy missions) How else would you call it actually?
Navy Seals, Green Berets, Delta Force, Marine Force Recon (yes all American SF units) also convert Reconnaissance missions.
LRRP is a generic term. other countries such as Finland also have LRRPs and they call them LRRP too!
btw what matters is not the name, its their performance. and Sri Lankan army without any doubt accomplished their mission with 100% success by eliminating an entire terrorist group within 2.5 yrs! and this LRRP is a key for that victory as they assassinated key terrorist leaders, disrupted enemy supplies & brought down enemy morale! other countries who have LRRPs didnt do this as far as i know

I doubt these are actual LRRP personel, they wouldnt reveal their identity at all. These may be Army personnel but not the LRRP guys.This is a propaganda/promotional clip, look at the positioning of the camera at certain times (eg: 5.25-5.39s) No dishonor to the elite guys but these are not the real ones who goes on missions.
no they might not be as you said. but LRRP soldiers are not some distinguished ones. they are highly trained special forces soldiers. LRRP in fact means Long Range Recon Patrol. they r patrolling in small teams which is what these guys in the vid doing. LRRP soldiers r same special forces soldiers who have double lives. may be they r on duty in a street by day but by night they might be patrolling deep jungles hunting for targets. you never know.

thats pure bullshit. riots didnt happen one after the other. it happened only 2 times. 1 was a small one in 50's. the biggest one was in 1983. thats when some sinhalese extremists looted tamil shops & burnt them down. but it didnt last for more than 3 days! in fact majority of the sinhalese protected the tamils against these extremist thugs! if they didnt do that there wouldnt be a tamil race in SL. after british left the country was in pretty chaotic state striken by poverty etc.

Even Tamils in Singapore, Malaysia, Fiji and Mouritious dont feel very happy about Jaffna Tamils as they feel that they were managers for British and mostly responsible for Tamils being identified as 2nd class in these countries. If your country in general felt Tamils as it own citizens, they would not have burnt Jaffna library. They would not have made aerial bombardments (before 1983). And most importantly, it is practically impossible to settle 2 opposite ethnic groups in one single nation.

well as far as I know they bought parts of those 2-seater planes from Zlin company in Czech & assembled them. its not a big deal coz even we assemble Bell helicopters in our Air force. they were helped by NGOs who stayed there. many western engineers have worked with them & given them the knowledge. also different countries under Aid to tsunami victimes have delivered machinery to them. such as Housler iron bending machines from Switzerland. so its not something magical making those submarines!

Fonseka brought them back & deployed them heavily in Thoppigala. u might have heard of 'Zulu Company' which took out many ltte leaders. that's LRRP. actually Gen. Fonseka is gonna step up security even though war is finish. he said Intelligence(DMI) will have more work to do.
LRRP is known more as a black operations or covert operations unit that's not conventional. they stay inside enemy territory & strike the enemy in the back. col. Lalith & his team of LRRP men from 3rd SF regiment were staying INSIDE ltte camp. they took out 2 targets, but unfortunately due to the rainy day terrorists have tracked their boot prints! but only lalith was killed, the others carried his body & dodged the terrorists & so skillfully made their way into the rendevouz point for pick up!
u r quite right. they r the most experienced & battle hardened soldiers in the Army. 3 rd Commandos & 3rd SFs r the best of the army & these guys r best of 3rd cmdo & 3rd SF. they r the few secretly selected ppl. look @ their vigilance. the machine gunner behind the front man is very scary look at his eyes at 1:21. also these guys r relatively big & matured compared to other soldiers.

I have a friend in special forces. Believe me they are devils! They had to be,otherwise U cannot beat the LTTE. They had good teams like this! But the LRRP I know had many Tamils,Muslims apart from army was not in regular enlisted force,and were so secrative,most were informants.They all were exposed under Ranils govt and mostly killed by LTTE during"peace" time! Thats a main reason why Ranil was defeated! So they helped defeat LTTE in bothways! Alive and dead! Tribute to all them!

Without doubt the ultimate warriors of this age. Sri lankan army special forces are the best guerrilla unit in the world. The green berets, navy seals, delta force, rangers, SAS, Spetnaz, israeli commandos, dont stand a chance against these hardened war veterans who do not need fancy gadgets, just their mental toughness to win the war on terror. As I say it before one cannot just say that these guys are the best special forces unit in the world. There is no such ranking method available to my understanding to categorize special forces units around the world.
However these guys are really really good. So as the SEALS, delta force, SAS, GIGN, SGS9 etc. I salute these guys as well as all the other special forces units around the world.

And they were the only army to beat the most dangerous terrorist org in the world. Did the americans find Bin Laden? no they didnt. But the sri lankans managed to crush the LTTE. I couldnt imagine Sri Lankan forces with their logistics trying to find Tamil Tiger leader in a country like Afganistan. I've read some of the comments and find some tobe queationable. Here are some facts about the men in S.O.G., L.R.R.P., and Ranger. All have to be Volunteers. #1...Volunteer for the Army. Not drafted! #2...Volunteer for Jump school. Not send there by orders from some chair borne REMF! #3... Volunteer for LRRP. Ranger as an Unit did not exsist until later during the war. What do exsist is Airborne Ranger assigned to the line companies.

My father was in vietnam and he was a LRRP. He was seriously wounded in combat and is retired early due to PTSD. I am a wreck and dad tries to take the blame but theres not a snowballs chance in hell its his fault. Amazing bravery to spy on battalions like they did.

hah, My grandfather told me a couple of stories, about being a LRRP in vietnam, he was also the RTO for the unit, they're was a disagreement about who would take point one day, he said f*** it I will, and started fast pacing, Ran smack dead into a enemy VC with RPG in hand and a round in the other hand, him being an RTO with his weight he fell on his ass, pointed his rifle and said (dan po) Run now or w/e, they we're they're scouting 2 villages (more to continue)

@MagnaSlash101 No, Today you may do LRRPS but LRRPs was a program during Vietnam, it was the predecessor ( or may of been taught by) Rangers. Being a LRRP you were a LRRP, and the men in vietnam knew it, cause these are the guys who were in the jungle for 3-4 weeks and come back looking like shit, yet no one fucked with them. But my Grandfather became a Kid Carson scout after the LRRPs was integerated into a tactic, and he's indian so he despised Kid Carson scout.

My grandfather was in Vietnam 68-70, he was 4th Infantry, LRRP, RTO.. he was 23 when drafted. His nickname was mouse, he wore black and white tiger camo's and flew with the BlackJack's... in 68 or 69 not sure week or month, Stars and Stripes took a photo of him returning from mission, he turned away, but it became the cover image for that issue.

Espically when his first firefirght engagement, he was one of 16 that survived in his company.. thats when he said get me into something else, well he became a LRRP, he also had a Montinyard (sp?) scout that he took with him everywhere, I got a pic of them in Plekui, the kid is 14 at the time my grandfather 24, the Kid served with the US 2 years before he teamed up with my Grandfather.

Hince, Why he flew with the blackjacks, More then just behind enemy lines, some of the men he went with, their names aren't listed on the Vietnam Memorial.. There's more to vietnam then our country would like to account for, like Blackwater/Dyncorp in Iraq present day reference.

LRRP is not a unit its an abbreviation, it stands for Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol. Its how they call the mission in general imo (like you have Search & Destroy missions) How else would you call it actually?
Navy Seals, Green Berets, Delta Force, Marine Force Recon (yes all American SF units) also convert Reconnaissance missions.

btw what matters is not the name, its their performance. and Sri Lankan army without any doubt accomplished their mission with 100% success by eliminating an entire terrorist group within 2.5 yrs! and this LRRP is a key for that victory as they assassinated key terrorist leaders, disrupted enemy supplies & brought down enemy morale! other countries who have LRRPs didnt do this as far as i know

Uh btw video poster, at 1:06, that looks to me like an entrenching tool, rather than an offensive weapon. E.g. You dig holes with the thing.

I think the tool is used to cover up foot marks/tracks and to cover the areas where the troops lay land mines and claymore mines, you cant dig holes with a three spiked (trident like) tool LOL

Yes we all have favorites, pet methods dont we. But in reality a what matters is getting the work done one way or the other. Also I am pretty sure that if these guys were inserted deep in enemy land they would probably wear LTTE outfits, because they know that they cannot find friends inside enemy controlled areas, but the Tigers cannot take that chance.

Mate, just because someone doubts the validity of the video doesn't make them a Tamil. People who go around making generalisations like that are the people who'll keep this conflict going for years to come. Just because the LTTE are all Tamils, doesn't mean all Tamils are LTTE. I'm Sinhalese, born in Australia, and just because I think this video is propaganda rather than footage of our LRRPs in action doesn't make me a Tamil. Grow up, for the sake of our country.

I doubt these are actual LRRP personel, they wouldnt reveal their identity at all. These may be Army personnel but not the LRRP guys.This is a propaganda/promotional clip, look at the positioning of the camera at certain times (eg: 5.25-5.39s) No dishonor to the elite guys but these are not the real ones who goes on missions.

no they might not be as you said. but LRRP soldiers are not some distinguished ones. they are highly trained special forces soldiers. LRRP in fact means Long Range Recon Patrol. they r patrolling in small teams which is what these guys in the vid doing. LRRP soldiers r same special forces soldiers who have double lives. may be they r on duty in a street by day but by night they might be patrolling deep jungles hunting for targets. you never know.

Ya, I know what LRRP means, but in this clip one can clearly identify the individuals.Would real LRRP personel reveal themselves like this?
That being said, I really dont know,they might be bold enough to come out and show the world what they are doing and how they serve Sri Lanka which is most appreciated always...

@vnck25 when my grandfather came back from a LRRP mission in january of 69, 70 Stars and Stripes took a photo of him and his Monintyard scout when they just got their alpha medals, I have the original pic it was posted on the front page, a 23 year old indiand and a 13 year old kid holding a M16 bigger then him, they're smiling, why? in the background outside their base theirs naplam and smoke rising, my grandfather called it in.

@vnck25 The future weapons has the 20 year retired SEAL sniper hosting it, The Seal's who saved that ship from the pirates in somalia, now they can't reveal their identity, but think of this.. We know about our special forces, though we may not know who the individuals are, but think of the other branchs of millitary teams that we DONT know about, those are the one's you never hear about.

thats pure bullshit. riots didnt happen one after the other. it happened only 2 times. 1 was a small one in 50's. the biggest one was in 1983. thats when some sinhalese extremists looted tamil shops & burnt them down. but it didnt last for more than 3 days! in fact majority of the sinhalese protected the tamils against these extremist thugs! if they didnt do that there wouldnt be a tamil race in SL. after british left the country was in pretty chaotic state striken by poverty etc.

btw u have picked up a small part of the big story. when british were there, they kicked sinhalese outta their jobs and replaced them with tamils. coz unlike sinhalese, tamils were leniant to british. then they tried to give 50% controlling pover of the country tamils where tamils were 11% of total population. that ignited the sinhalese racism towards tamils. before that tamils & sinhalese didnt have any probs. imagine 11% of population in tamil nadu is sinhala would u like to be ruled by them?

It is an important point. Even Tamils in Singapore, Malaysia, Fiji and Mouritious dont feel very happy about Jaffna Tamils as they feel that they were managers for British and mostly responsible for Tamils being identified as 2nd class in these countries. I am aware that Tamils were more friendly with British and Singalese were more nationalistic. I agree with you (within this specific point).

btw did u knw that the head of the sri lankan police the IGP during the 1983 riots was a tamil named Rudra Rajasingham....and the 6 DIGs (deputy police chiefs) in SL during 83 was also tamil.....

Opinion and insecurity felt by commoners is more important. I dont think a common normal Singalese ever felt insecure. When Tigers fought, they fought against, army and specific targets. If your country in general felt Tamils as it own citizens, they would not have burnt Jaffna library. They would not have made aerial bombardments (before 1983). And most importantly, it is practically impossible to settle 2 opposite ethnic groups in one single nation.

well there r smaller ethnic groups getting on way better with sinhalese ppl. like Burghers (european-lankan mixed). the problem with tamils is that they wanna rule SL. thats their grievence and worry. on the contrary they live in Europe according to the laws in those countries & under the white ppl but they dont like to live under sinhalese. they r the ones who started this conflict in 70's burning public buses and that's what increased sinhalese hatred towards them.

History is always written by Winners. Had Japan, Germany won, they 'saved the world from imperialists and liberated the world'. About Cholas, it has interesting variance. Cholas always fought with Singalese because, (LOL) Singalese always supported Pandiyas. Pandian kings had matrimony with Singalese and not with Cholas. Simple. We should not go back to history beyond some period. I would say, maximum 3 generations. When IPKF invaded Srilanka, Tamils and Singalese were united to oppose them.

no its not. we formed allies with Pandyas because of Chola invasions. so we could station our forces in Pandya region and engage cholas. Chola empire did not attack only SL it attacked even Thailand, Malaysia and most of SE asia. they didnt do anything. well if u insist we'll forget that. IPKF screwed up everything. they harassed local ppl thats why tamils were opposed to it. sinhalese were opposed to it because they saw IPKF as invaders.

we r going for democracy we r in fact the best democracy coz we never invaded or attacked any country. even in the past we could have easily colonized Maldives but we didnt. . it was tamils who took up arms. there were worse discriminations around the world like USA govt to Blacks & Nazis to Jews but none of them resort to violence. they kept on doing non-violent campaigns. however, we r ready to share power. we give them powers to rule tamil-predominant areas.

Not by army and airforce. Pakistan itself was very much part of India. "We are ready to give them power!" They were spending money lavishly in Entertainment & fancy dresses to the agony of poor students who could not afford regular fee & food. I asked them (Srilankan tamils) why they spend money like water, that too in front of several poor boys. They replied. "It is our habit. We spend money for enjoyment. We also give our females for marriage to whomever they like. No restrictions!". WHY?

being a steadfast supporter of eelam, i watched this video with interest. i dont want to use any harsh or bad words. as an indian tamil, i feel and believe, eelam tamils deserve a nation of their own. that will help emergence of 2 powerful nations in one island. both prosperous (as malaysia and singapore). and... these 2 nations should shame india... in development, peace and prosperity. all the best. To the best of my limited knowledge, they are one who built twin seater aircraft and submarines at such difficult fighting time and very very little resources. Had they been allowed to settle, they could have sure won Antartica and make the flags of Singala and Eelam fly proudly there too.

well as far as I know they bought parts of those 2-seater planes from Zlin company in Czech & assembled them. its not a big deal coz even we assemble Bell helicopters in our Air force. they were helped by NGOs who stayed there. many western engineers have worked with them & given them the knowledge. also different countries under Aid to tsunami victimes have delivered machinery to them. such as Housler iron bending machines from Switzerland. so its not something magical making those submarines!

yeah bro u r quite right. exactly with this war we have developed many equipment & tactics of our own. like the arrow class boats. in addition did u see the small boats used by Commandos to break into Nandikadaal lagoon. its their own concept. already countries like spain, Ukraine, Indonedia r holding conferences with SL Navy on counter-maritime terrorism. US Army paramedics r learning in Kothalawala defence acadamy on how to treat soldiers on the battlefield. i could send u the link. GO SL GO!

thank you for keep watching over & over. no they'll never get disbanded again! it was only disbanded once after Ranil betrayed millenium city. it was for the safety of these guys. but Gen. Fonseka brought them back & deployed them heavily in Thoppigala. u might have heard of 'Zulu Company' which took out many ltte leaders. that's LRRP. actually Gen. Fonseka is gonna step up security even though war is finish. he said Intelligence(DMI) will have more work to do.

LRRP is known more as a black operations or covert operations unit that's not conventional. they stay inside enemy territory & strike the enemy in the back. col. Lalith & his team of LRRP men from 3rd SF regiment were staying INSIDE ltte camp. they took out 2 targets, but unfortunately due to the rainy day terrorists have tracked their boot prints! but only lalith was killed, the others carried his body & dodged the terrorists & so skillfully made their way into the rendevouz point for pick up!

u r quite right. they r the most experienced & battle hardened soldiers in the Army. 3 rd Commandos & 3rd SFs r the best of the army & these guys r best of 3rd cmdo & 3rd SF. they r the few secretly selected ppl. look @ their vigilance. the machine gunner behind the front man is very scary look at his eyes at 1:21. also these guys r relatively big & matured compared to other soldiers.

'shadow warriors'. that's actually why I wanted to make this vid in tribute to them. coz after we won the war, our soldiers were in TV & journalists talked to them. but these guys talk to no one. even their existence is a secret. but they r the hardcore, silent & dark force behind this victory. if Charles Anthony was alive surely it would be harder for the infantries to win, thanks to LRRP, he was outta the way.
