  • I love the way Ralph plays guitar....and his style is unique!. Best to you, Ralph!

    C.G.T. Ukiah, CA

  • Go and hear the "Solo Concert" album in ECM. It is a masterpiece.

  • wonderful!!!

  • EXCELLENT!!!

  • Yes, One of the greatest

  • He creates both beautiful and melancholy feelings in this interpretation of a very fine jazzballad. And I really like the sound in his guitar.

  • It's fascinating to hear the references to Lenny Breau - I hadn't thought of it before today. But, as artist Francis Bacon would have said, "there it is". Lenny and Ralph as a duo - it can't happen now, but the thought is inspiring.

  • written by Jule Styne

  • I wonder if he ever played with Lenny Breau? Very similar take on this piece.

  • The nylon string guitar is the most expressive, balanced, and versatile guitar. Its just a pain in the neck to amplify.

  • Fabulous guitar player, fabulous piano player, fabulous flugelhon player.

  • Thumbs up if you want Ralph in a CD with Tommy Emmanuel!

  • Thanks for sharing this gem!!

  • A true, genius/master of the guitar who knows how to put across the essence of a song and has a quiet ego.

  • Sammy Cahn wrote the lyrics, Jule Styne wrote the music

  • A grand master musician and a beautiful song. Bravo!

  • you guys should check out Gene Bertoncini

  • an incredible player, BUT even better composer, one of the greatest of modern guitar.

  • fantastic he realy knows the harmony in and out.

  • beautiful- the antidote to things played with too much "jazz sauce" on them

  • wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ralph Towner has always been one of my favorites for many of the same reasons that Bill Evans is my favorite jazz pianist. The main reason being that their technique serves the music and not the other way around.

  • @Jazzer457 You have expressed this perfectly. It involves technique only in the sense that it assists in transporting one to that emotional space. They are "playing the piece," exactly as it needs to be played, not one note extra. One of the greats... Ralph Towner.

  • Wonderful

  • i agree with you.Towner, Abercombrie,Goodrick, masters of harmony in guitar

  • great video!!!

    wow..!!

  • I love all the dissonant slash chords. For that matter, I'm getting a little tired of all the Joe Pass clones. It will be a great day when most guitarist are like Ralph, Mick Goodrick, and John Abercrombie. Harmony is our friend!

  • Simply stunning. Ralph just gets better with age.

  • muy copado desde argentina danielfilas

  • Ralph's idiosyncratic take on this lovely old standard: a lot of his stuff is too OUT there for me, but he's a lovely player.

  • classical technique, jazz rhythm and, individualistic harmonic concepts, what a master.

  • @babinm Try Lenny Breau. Same kind of guy.

  • so great

  • Stunning arrangement. Thanks for posting.

  • A true musician.
