  • We watched this in class and I said as joke to my friend that Siddhartha looked like an indian Keanu Reeves. Then I went home and looked the movie up on Wikipedia and I was like: O.o

  • i love buddha <3

  • So what actually became of Siddharta in the actual story of his life when he beat Mara?

  • keanu is breathtaking ! <3

  • Five "girls" for the five senses, the five "doors" of deception. They bring milk (milkmaids) as nourishment of the soul, but Vishnu spills the milk (or water) out of the jars as to destroy the senses. After he does this something happens, the first revelation occurs, that Time is a lie, then all his soul struggles against this horrible true (vijnana bhairava) and he wins (the full moon of his consciusness rises) but its not all yet one more illusion still has to be win befor the Sun rises.

  • Yay! A discussion! Buddha was actually one of the first scientists, he had a theory about the elements that make up everything in the universe. He said that it was particles, of energy, that when in a solid form have little energy so they don't move much, in fluids they have more energy therefore they move more and in the last state(which he called decay) there was a lot of energy and therefore a lot of movement. Sound familiar? Obviously, it's what's being taught in classrooms the world over!

  • It is weird and a bit sad, people seing this expression of compassion and the only thing they do here is fight and insult each other

  • Buddhism is the most peaceful religion, yet it does not claim to be.

Islam is the most violent religion, yet it claims it is peaceful.

  • Buddha has destroyed his right amygdala. That is the secret to enlightenment.

  • i am man of peace, this is a good movie

  • the awakening!!!

  • gg samsara

  • これって孔子暗黒伝入ってね?

  • lol wtf Keanu Reeves as Siddharta?

  • @genesisplan one of his best roles. he always looks a bit confused, doesn't he? :-)

  • The Buddha, The One, lol Gotta love Keanu Reeves

  • what fuck with the white boy??

  • @chaomeinthao He is Jesus.

  • @islamDick No, he is just a man.. A man that has done more than Jesus... A man that didn't have his head up in the clouds, but instead figured out a way to escape suffering through reality instead of fairy in the sky stories.

  • We first moved into our home about 12 years ago and for the first time ever since the 21-05-2011 which was supposed to be judgement day, we have had a Beautiful White Dove come to our garden and it is so friendly it even eats from our hands & stood on my brothers hand whilst eating seeds…My fathers says that this White Dove is the one on my book “The Reason” and that it has come to life!!!! (Leyla Ergun)

  • I hope all spiritual seekers will help stop animal sacrifice as millions of helpless aniamls are being slaughtered to satisfy our egos (hunting sport), taste buds and bellies. Animals are sentient beings & God's creation too, they have feelings and pain like ours. Vegetariansm is the right path for this day/age. We are slowly killing all animals and in the end killing ourselves too. Buddha's teaching is one of love and non-violence, don't just preach , practice it, extend it to animals too !

  • @bliss6120 Then our cavemen ancestors had no hope. They have to kill. What about the animals above the food chain? Lions, hyenas, sharks? They kill as well, what is their fate after they die? I don't believe in an after life but there may be a chance....

  • @GreenSpirit3 You are right, our cavemen ancestors had to kill to survive, but our life now is different, we have a ' choice ', we can ' choose ' to eat a vegetarian diet, I believe Jesus and Buddha both taught the same truths maybe in a different way, Buddha said ' all living creatures have the buddha nature, they are here on planet earth to evolve, they are not born to be our foodchain, yes they function by intinct and many species prey on others to live, their life is to kill and be killed.

  • @GreenSpirit3 Continue.....

As the animals evolve, eventually one life they will be born as human beings endowed with a higher mind and intellect, then they can exert their free will and ultimately experience their Buddhahood or Godhood (as explained in the ancient Hindu texts), just like all the Great Masters in the past like Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, Krishna, Lao Tsu (founder of Taoism) and many more !

  • @bliss6120 I agree, somewhat.

As for those religious figures, lets throw Mohammad out, he just makes things worse. Jesus as well. ,

  • @GreenSpirit3 Thats why I have turned away from orthodox religion, but now I realize that the founding fathers were all good, but their followers or those who ' preach ' do not have the same wisdom & 'experience' as they did, therefore, distorted a lot of the teachings, thus misintrepretation follows and differences between religions started. No religion teach us to fear, hate and kill others, all teach love and oneness!

Watch 'Anita Moorjani's near death experience' on u-tube, its awesome !

  • I love U BUDDHA. I Love U. U are My life. U are my Soul. Few years before I don't know who was Siddhartha. But when I listen by some one that 3000 years ago there was a young and most beautiful Prince born in Kapilavasto, who gave up all his luxuries, his beautiful wife, his infant son, and his whole kingdom, just because he wants to know the truth behind Sufferings, just because he was felling pain in his heart for all the human beings. Oh! my God, how Great he was? Unbelievable.

  • @TheMsAdnan

Buddha , Jesus and others, are extremely awesome, but religion took wrong path and showed them different to the world.

  • @littlejohn17

    You are right.

Buddha , Jesus , Muhammad and Ram all were on the same and right Path, but latter on the their followers and so called Priests manipulated their teachings, for their Personal benefits and made different Religions in order to run their business.

Now you can see through out the world all the religious scholars are doing nothing but dividing the humanity into many sects and just spreading the Heatedness.

  • @TheMsAdnan

thankx man, didn't knew of Muhammad story and Ram.

  • watch?v=puEhyb7HXt0

  • Keanu was actually perfectly cast. The upper nobility at that time were descendants from the aryan race, lighter skin than the native indians.

  • why must people make christian comments on a buddhist topic? the two dont mix, believe me ive tried. there is no "god". this life that we live, is our expirience. specifically mine. i see, feel, smell, and taste life through my body, and my body only. i am all that i will ever be. for infinity. for eternity. the meaning of my existence as a whole will only be for me to find out. its nothing i can share. so why would there be a god seperate from existence. this is a dream, the grand dream.

  • When the cobra rose above his head and protected him from the rain was a symbolical way of saying he activated his crown chakra..

  • This is a great effort by the director.

Enlightenment exist in all of us, but it need to be uncovered "within". That's what then Prince Siddhartha did and become the Lord Buddha. I can see lot of intelligent comments were posted esp by the user German1184. Thank you!

    -A Buddhist from Sri Lanka

  • @AngelsRamin yep an great monk said the answer is "complete emptiness" thousands of years later, it still is. but bare in mind though this clip was before siddarta reached "Nirvana" or "enlightment". So what's wrong with a wee bit of fun on the side, after u've already reached Nirvana?

  • i love how he becomes illuminated with golden rays of light. that is what enlightenment looks like

  • Yes but I still hate that Trinity dies in the end.

  • Immortal

  • this great, we do not need to wait for jesus to return, god know when that might me, if he ever does or not, buddha say you all can reach enelightment.

  • @mahender6969 Perhaps the return of Jesus is in our hearts, when we are enlightened?

    Peace!

  • Thanks for uploading!! May All Beings Be Enlightened!

  • those five girls are within Siddhartha, they are his enemies

  • @x0xOne I think you're right but they are in all of us. Mara was enraged that these desires couldn't move Buddha from his path: & others would hear the Buddha and turn away from the path of Mara; & begin a walk down the path of understanding the desires that keep us from reaching enlightenment. By not understanding a life based on desire it must be rebuilt again & again until a soul finds that Buddha path to salvation. In a sense salvation recognizes the cost of desire & how the path frees you.

  • It only cost 19 yuan.

At first, some information you see in this website might be too much for a beginner esoteric knowledge seeker, but once you start to connect the dots, since this world is like a puzzle, then you will have a chance to know thyself, universe, and the cause of all causes.

  • Here at the Bodhi tree I won preeminence after seven days, woke up to enlightenment, and reached the end of the jungle and wilderness of birth, old-age and death. Here I have broken the demon (Mara) who was my unskilled states of mind. Here I have broken the Demon (Mara) who was my limited personality. Here I have broken the Demon (Mara) who is the spirit of malevolence. Here, it is done, at the foot of the Bodhi tree." [Mahavastu, Volume III. 261, 268f.]

  • Phenomena!

  • 5:37- "It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles." - Buddha

  • the movie tries very well to depict inner struggle within a man. it is not with images, that we must deal, but with our feelings. there lives mara, our unconscious. by fully realizing oneself as the cause of all experience, our experience gains a new quality, it becomes wholesome. then realization comes, then happiness and then the release of cessation and nirvana.

  • i had a beam of light hit me in the 3rd eye when i watched this movie. it only happened the first time, never again. strange...

  • it is totaly an ilusion to think you can become without self , you can put it to sleep for a while , but you can not destroy it . when you talk is your self . Remmember the middle way is the best way.

  • Dude looks like Keanu Reeves!!! He even pulls off the matrix move at 8:00

  • @expedition2006 It IS Keanu Reeves! Amazing huh.

  • chris issac a mere boy! what chills, there! lovely snippet of discovery stages of overcoming self-delusion. great movie. wonder why Bridgette Fonda never remarks of her lead role in it. well, then kenneau Reeves, a natural... pre-Lawrence Fishbourne, oh, Ike Turner role, hmmm all runs together, what's got to do, is it?

  • Yep all nice words and train of thoughts, just be nice to yourself and others and you basically got it. Its that hard and simple.

  • life is dead as much death is alive

  • thins kind of so-called Siddhartha's awakening is just another way of dieing. do not fall for it it leads the self on a wrong place.

  • the worst kind of evil done by The Devil is convincing the world of its nonexistence: My Universal Self is The Masculine In union The Feminine Out union The Mid Tao between them setting them apart beyond that there ain't no other thing... you my friends are pure self-generated illusion. Јас Еденот сум самио Еден по себе еден сем мене Еденот нема друг еден а оти сум сам по себе не ми треба априори причина да сум. and what have i just proven? who i said is the one to offer such A proof? who am i?

  • @dedanoe If the Devil's greatest weapon is convincing us that he's not real, then God has also helped him by not being connected with us.

  • @GreenSpirit3 devil proves the world doesn't exist, not devil does not exist, devil is the only in existence

  • @dedanoe

    I don't understand....

  • @GreenSpirit3 this is my construct for that proof >>> rJso8iJdPrQ

  • defeat your worst enemy and you defeat your own self: the positron with no negatronic core and the negatron with no positronic core are both doom-doomed to dispersion cause each of them individually can be considered as many parts of like-wise colored charges on infinitesimally small distance hence the electric force between those parts alone will be enormous and enough to force them on annihilation. defeated MARA equals defeated Siddhartha.

  • th moral magnetic north pole.

  • Keanu Reeves IS THE ONE!!!

  • Thanks for sharing!!

  • this movie not complet . not perfact

  • Die Frisur hält.

  • so much fantasy about that pour soul budha ......and fuck it is someone crying in..is it background music for death ceremony??

  • Jesus's " I and my Father are one" and Siddhartha's realisation that there is no separate "I" are one and the same thing.

Only one truth, hundreds of religions..........so much war and suffering caused by the false "I" the ego, in those who do not understand the message of love from the enlightened ones.

  • no need to go deep into the void! just focus on whatever arises as it arises, without judgement, and then in life try to purify your deeds and viewpoints/thoughts. if this life is over so soon, and surely everyone dies, then why not quickly work harder to practice virtue for oneself and all others so that we may be in a better space to realize the unborn nature of mind in this lifetime!

  • Fav. scenes (life of Siddharta) with some music :-)

    /watch?v=d46MhQCC4Bo

  • Thanks for uploading -.priyantha Sri Lanka

  • I'll be quite honest: Meditating to such an extent that you enter deep into the void is quite scary because it feels as if I'm losing myself (or rather my ego) and being overwhelmed by a deeper knowledge and understanding. Overcoming that fear is, I think, a part of the jouney to enlightenment.

  • @Phranky it is, that why feaqr must be dealt with immeditaly and contolled, because our minds create this. we have to be keenly aware of this. it is what prevented me from going further. People are so engulfed into the idea of individualism and egoism that it has become a strong force, that nobody wants to give up. thats a problem!

  • Keanu Reeves as Siddarta! LOVE IT!

  • it's not about positive thinking, it's about correct thinking

  • I saw this movie as a child and it totally changed my life...

  • can u tell me what is the movie name pleasae?

  • Little Buddha...

  • Little Buddha

  • Fantastic film! 5 stars * * * * *

  • Oh Lord of my own Ego, you are pure illusion; you do not exist.

  • NO MATTER WHAT LIFE THROWS AT YOU keep the FAITH!

  • @deefirst

Buddha doesn't believe in faith. Faith = death. Logic!

  • @GreenSpirit3 Faith is more than religion! It is having the courage to be who you want to be! Buddha broke away from the norm to seek stillness within hisself! He kept the faith no matter what crossed his path. That's faith!

  • @deefirst That's not faith, that's working to achieve something. He wasn't hoping for something to happen.

  • @GreenSpirit3 Faith isn't death! Where did you get that bad logic from? Faith is knowing without a doubt.

  • @deefirst

Oh, I got that logic from someone named "CultofDusty". That's a Youtube channel, check it out.

Faith is not knowing without a doubt, faith is uncertainty. Most scientists will throw faith right out the window. They want something that can be proven and with certainty.

  • @GreenSpirit3 You and I will never agree on faith! As for science.. it is the down fall of the human existence. Polution, cloning, disease, bad medicines, useless gizmos and gagets are from scientists who likes to play god and have strayed away from and ignored the natural ways of living!

  • Comment removed

  • @deefirst You are an idiot, science gave you the computer you used to type that comment on the website youtube on which you viewed this video, all given to you by "science". Even the film little Buddha would not have been made without science. Dumbass.

  • @AtheismF7W everything you just said a second grader could said, moron! GO TO A LAB AND SWALLOW SOME SCIENCE!

  • @GreenSpirit3 OMG! WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INFO FROM! HOPE AND FAITH HAS DIFFERENT MEANINGS! LOOK IT UP!

  • I against myself..

  • well he was brought up in Hindu prior to his enlightenment then he fix the many misconceptions in the Hindu belief. Basically releasing the human's binds to the Gods so they can stand up for themselves.

  • buddha was a hindu

  • WAS!!!

  • ha3 architect.....

  • 08:27 Siddharta meets the Architect. "Architect. Finally I have met you."

Nearly ten years later, In the Matrix Revolutions, Neo delivers a similar line. Ironic?

  • He COULD HAVE delivered it.

  • @tedtrix

The matrix if you haven't noticed is heavily influenced with buddhist ideals, 'all is just illusion'.

  • @tedtrix Nothing happens by casualty... Do you know who adore to the "Architect of the Universe" ?

  • @tedtrix Great remark. I was thinking 'bout it some weeks ago. Reeves has played in two movies where a "matrix", in this case the matrix of our own ego, is to be surpassed...

  • the scene where the arrows turn into petals is one of my favorite movie scenes. Beautiful.

  • I know "Hin-du"!!!!

  • I seem to remember the special effects of this movie being amazing. xD; Although I was like... 5 when I saw this.

  • The temptations and the battle, according to strict interpretation of the pali canon are supposed to be external agency ( the devil). The conquest of his internal demons occur in meditations afterwards which cannot be depicted in movies.

  • he can see the matrix now^ ^

  • I want to ask if anyone is Buddhist, are all those temptations, evil armies, and even the final battle where he questions himself about the ego: are all these just illusions *inside* of him the whole time, not from an external source ?

And Is he refering to the Buddhist concept of "No-Self" in the final trial where he questions himself ?

  • those were the the taints of the mind, basically Mara represents the taints. as for the last part, i don't think i'm qualified enough to answer that. God bless you and your nick. lol.

  • Yes within himself and his only witness to his defeat of Mara (his own ego) was the Earth which held his body upright in meditation.

  • It is wise to dissolve the emptiness, because the emptiness doesn't exist. The emptiness is the whole universe and everything else.

  • Correction:dissolve into

  • yeah... existence is emptiness... there is nothing and in the same time there is everything... it takes time to understand this, but if you are enough awake then there is no problem to understand

  • @bigfatdick5000 It is not totally about ego. It is the devil in yourself. Everyone has buddha nature and yes everyone is a buddha. The Buddha emphasizes on the cultivation to get rid of the bad karma which accumulated in our previous lives. This is so hard to be understood by someone who is not fully enlightened. Shukyamuni even wanted to leave the samsara because he knows the people would not understand him. This movie can only depicts the outerlayer and yes it is about "no-self concept".

  • @lotuskcs LOL! This is why Amitabha created Pure Land, in order to accept those that are too tempted/ unable to go beyond the self and teach them after death. Hail to Amitabha Buddha! (Namu Amida Butsu/ Namu Amituofo)

  • Wow. Absolutely incredible. I haven't seen this movie... I certainly will now.

  • Comment removed

  • It seemed as Mara had been defeated. But, in fact, he had not yet given up the battle. Now, He attacks again.

Mara:- You who go where no-one else will dare, will you be my god?

Siddhartha:- Architect, finally I have met you. You will not rebuild your house again.

Mara:- But I am your house... And you live in me.

Siddhartha:- Oh, lord of my own ego, you are pure illusion, you do not exist. The earth is my witness.

  • @German1184 i rest on the earth while you float above the water... which one of us is real which one is rael cause Israel obviously is not real?

  • @German1184 At 1st I could not understand the meaning of Mara. Siddharta said, "oh architect you will not rebuild your house again." Siddharta meant he had found the way to enlightenment and Mara couldn't delude the soul of Siddharta with earthly things that give humans pleasure without thought of how one person's actions may influence others. Siddharta now knew how Mara kept deluding people & they had to keep being reincarnated. Mara had been found out & others would follow the Buddha.

  • @aellarex (Part 1) Mara’s daughters are symbols of “unskillful emotions” that keep distracting humans from practicing the spiritual life by making the mundane alluring or the negative seem positive.

Mara can be understood as a metaphor for death, in the sense of the ceaseless round of birth and death (the cycle of Samsara).

And *Rebirth* means “the rebirth of the idea of ‘I’ and ‘mine”.

  • @aellarex (Part 2) In this clip, when Siddharta says, “You will not rebuild your house again.” He meant that the illusion of "me" will not renew itself.

It must be understood that at any time when there exists the idea "I," "mine," at that time there exists birth, suffering, the cycle of Samsara. We experience birth as this, that, or the other, I don't know how many times each day.

The Buddha said, “Oh, Bhikshu, every moment you are born, decay, and die.”

  • @German1184 but is it not so that an effort to overcome desires in itself is inspired by a Big Desire of self conquest?????? any thoughts plzz

  • @78giani

The effort of overcoming desire should be just an aspiration. Any desire will be the hindrance for us to liberate ourselves from suffering.

Through effort we practise morality that Buddha taught. With morality, we achieve peace of mind that leads to one-pointedness of concentration, samadhi. With concentration, wisdom arises and hence we're able to abandon our desire.

  • very beautiful video...

  • Simplesmente maravilhoso!

  • Very Good

  • This movie is amazing I loved!

  • Caring and excepting has never been a trait of homosapiens.

  • From an islamic perspective, this is the perfect example of Jihad, which is supposed to be a personal struggle and a strive to NOT give in to unrighteous behaviour.

We want to be humble servants of Allah (the one and only God), not slaves of our own pride, greed, fear, ignorance and desire.

Through education, contemplation, dhikr and prayers one may reach the enlightenment needed to ensure the calmness and peace which Islam in fact stands for.

    Peace.

  • from what the world knws, and everyone knows, islam is the oppositie of buddhism, because it justifies violence. Buddhism is probably the most peaceful religion in this Earth.

  • The Quran doesn't justify violence or opression. But u are right, there are "muslims" who commit terrible crimes in the name of Allah.

The so called "muslim" countries of today are actually the least islamic - judged by Quranic principles.

Ignorance and arrogance are indeed dangerous poisons.

    Blessings upon all humble truthseekers.

    Peace.

  • you dont think that calling your god 'the one and only' isnt a bit, well, prideful and ignorant of you?

as if The All would only take one form. pah. i appreciate your religion regardless as all paths lead to Him but there seems to be blatant pride and arrogance in islam (and any other organized religion claiming MINE IS THE ONLY)

  • Although there are many paths to Him, one man can only walk one of them. Maybe an suffix to the sentance is needed: my god is the only god FOR ME.

By this I'm worshiping my god without insulting yours.

    Eventhough they are the same.

    ;-)

  • fair enough man, that end suffix is pretty important to add consistently though lol

  • By putting the word war next to holy you are simply disrespecting the word holy. There is no holy war. I have heard people repeating this word but if you are spiritual and holy would you dare to go for a war? would you even think about hurting someone? the answer is no. think about it.

  • @nicegoodboy123, "this is the greatest holy war" was meant to say the holy war going on inside all of us as illusion vrs truth. truly the greatest holy war.

    great clip btw.

  • This illustration is really happening in our mind : lust / desire, wave of fear, arrows of hatred, the mirage of ignorance. The biggest enemies within which should be conquered....and this clip makes my tears flow out of devotion. Thankyou so much for posting this.

  • starting at 8:20 tll the end...opened my mind up to alot.I thought i understood everything. But when he talks to marra,it gave me so many thoughts just out of his 1-2 sentences.

I hope everyone receivs the message.

    Namaste

  • yep, the Architect of his Castle, it was all an illusion by the Mara inside of him.

    "The earth is his witness."

It gave me realize some thoughts too. god bless

  • Watch "Ajahn Brahm" s vdeo on Youtube. More than a hundred of them. Great videos

  • look's like Neo is still in a training construct.

  • hey the little gurl look like ma cousin.....she cute........

  • Love everything about this movie..the story the music...

  • great scene. thanx for the clip.

  • ich leb in der dunkelheit.
