Training teaches a soldier how to be an individual within a unit as well as to keep your wits during battle. Even a private can navigate with a map, call for support and call in artillery strikes. If the "soldier" was correct in his statement than every unit would fall apart with the death of the commanding officer. However, time and time again we see just the opposite.

I do have to say that there are some things that are done that are shady. My recruiter forged my name on some documents. I joined anyway and had no intention of not, but I spent my first duty assignment at a post that I never wanted. I got my assignment preference based upon that sheet that he forged. When I ask about it I am told that I probably would have ended up there anyway.
