Could anybody tell me some good equipment to use for recording in guitar through cable, and does it come up automatically in the programmr when you plug in your guitar/keyboard etc? thinking of buying record and I use reason.
@WhoIsTreG YEAAHH! it rocks. You can mix the vocals in so many ways, using the huge mixer or one of the many possibilities in the rack. Try the demo, and buy it, since you will love it.
I love how you can speed up/slow down the tempo with minimal artiufacts. This would be nice dow tempo correcting a live performance or adding a rubato feel to a metrically strict recording. I use SONAR 8, but it is pretty demanding on the resources and I'll see if the demo performs well. Looks like I'll get this any how.
You can import REX loops as audio files in Record, and the time stretching will be applied to the audio. This is different than using a Dr.REX Loop player. The audio is not stretched in a Dr.REX, rather the timing between slices changes.
If you do a lot of slice re-arrangement in your production, you can render a sequenced Dr.REX track to an audio track and then apply stretch to the audio.
If u did use the line 6 amp from record , woudl u mind telling me how u manage to get it to sound good? Do u use just compressors? Did u guys put the mastering effects on it.
Thanks! Yes we used the stock line6 amp models. My friend, Goh is a great player and brought in some nice guitars. That certainly helps. I did a bit of tweaking on the D.I. signal and did a bit of hardware post processing on some of the guitar tracks after they went through the line6 amps. For the most part though, the sound is all Record.
For anyone wondering, we tuned down the guitars to D#. The problem is that the bass was not tuned down to D# so there's some weird intonation.
Reason is the easiest software to learn, so really, if you can use reason, you can use record. Just pretend reason could already record audio and you then would have record. :P
It's cool if you already own Reason..then it's just a cheap upgrade. But, just by itself there is not alot...you have to get the $500 bundle. BTW..if you own a Mac..you can get Logic Studio for the same price..way more bang for the buck..plus..it works with Garageband..sort of like Record/Reason.
Yes but Logic is for those who Are Computer Nerds. This is for people who don't know much about Synthesis and Digital Recording. That opens it up in classrooms that are not Digital production heavy. I expect Record and Reason to open up Music production to a whole new world of Creative minds. If they do come out with Reason 5 and then Record 2. what Didn't surprisingly work in it's predecessors will be fixed.
I would say Propellerhead Record is even more nerdy than Logic. What could be more heavy than learning Thor, Subtractor, Malstrom, etc...all very synth heavy instruments. Combinator just by itself could keep you up at night..for weeks. Then throw in the NEW emulation of a Room Sized Soundboard...and you can see a newbie trying to learn a SLL console...could get frustrated really quick.
you cant compare garageband with reason... it's like comparing Jay-Z with soulja boy.... ;) reason is an awesome instrument for creating music, developing sounds, explore audio horizons... garageband is a useful tool for beginners, good and intuitive but far away from reason.
You would be surprised what you can do with Garageband....that comes FREE with every Mac. Get past the Music Lessons, Magic Garageband, and you find a simplified version of Logic. It's an Audio Units Host, Rewire Host. And it's got many different synths...that are fun to build sounds with. So to say you can't develop sounds or explore audio horizons with Garageband is just flat WRONG. You can go beyond the presets and make you own custom instruments. Although, most GB users don't dig that deep.
for the price of a Mac pc you can get a super computer and reason record combo for the same price and depending on if you get the laptop with the 13" screen for 1000.00 or the imac for 1200.00 you can get a descent usb sound device Macs or bull crap and overated a Mac is a personal computer PC for the price of the 13'' inch I can buy 3 babies the 10" notebooks
Garage Bank is not Jay Z omg lol its so limited! GB is like a consumer based audio recording app and its just like getting your feet wet for Logic which by the way is not Logical
I love propellerhead software and the ease of using the programs. I just wish that they could combine these programs together and also have VST support. That total package would be greater than ableton. with reason being a closed enviroment it can essentially limit you in terms of incorporating other sounds. Also there is no way to master individual sounds as in ableton. I still dont like to use ableton because I feel it is not as user friendly.
@MarEoTheScientist actually you can master indiviual sounds in reason or record redrum has ten channels just make push tab button route the channels of the redrum to seperate mixer channels add mastering suite and use the effects send knobs and adjust away
I never use it that way. I usually add an MCLASS to my instruments then an MCLASS mastering suite to the top of my track. while ableton its just like click and drag mastering effects to the sound. it just all depends on what you want to do. I was just saying that propellerhead should just go full fledged DAW. combing VST support, sample splicing, recording and production into ONE program. instead of multiple programs.
I agree only thing I like about ableton is the drum rack really I just need to by me a super dope sampler maybe a MPC or something I was looking at the 500 thats all I need
the mpc 500 is dope and all but if i were going to spend that kind of money I would rather buy a Roland SP555 Creative Sampler. it does the same as the mpc but with more effects and works stand alone or with a PC. but then again, that would be more well suited for what I produce
The point is to eliminate all the crap that slows down your computer and to make it easy to record and to be very stable. It looks even easier to use than Tracktion 3.I like the way propellerheads are going. If you need all the extra stuff, don't buy record, get another DAW.
so i have reason 4 a want to rewire it into acid or ableton or protols so i can record vocols on to my reason tracks througth rewire so if i get this record from propellerhead will i be able to do that with this product cos im a lil bit confused so please ansa back thanks
This looks like a serious attempt to compete with Cubase/Logic etc., but without VSTi/RTAS support you have nowhere to go, leaving this software as nothing but a starters toy.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
reason is great if you have a crappy laptop running vista and you wanna make kiddy music like grime or dub(shite)step, and with the added bonus of record all those so called mc "beet" makers can shout down the internal mic and record there nursery rhymes
Yeah, i'm hoping that someone makes a great track with this technique. Record with the Internal mic for the ultimate in Lo-Fi digital quality. It wouldn't surprise me if this becomes a production technique like the "telephone mic" technique.
Next time I'm in a drum session, i'll try this and sample it :) USB Mic Drum Samples - the antithesis of Addictive Drums, BFD or RDK
it all depends on your imagination and talent some create generic genre music others use it to merely record their good songs rather than loops and style over substance
Agreed, Grime and Dubstep is 'kiddy' stuff, but the only reason I say this is, as a drum and bass producer, using reason 4 I realised how many multiples easier it is to produce Dubstep. I'd discourage the former and latter of this comment, however. Don't confuse ease-of-use with poor outcome. It's never easy to make a good sound, and Reason 4's mastering suite makes it much easier to turn something from, "pretty good", to "fucking sick". I get that a lot ;) heh
At 3:50 the guy said : " If you can run Reason on your computer , you can run Record " . That's the biggest fucking lie ever ! Record Beta 9 is about 10 times slower than Reason 4.01 on the same computer
Yes, you're correct. I misspoke there. I was trying to explain about soundcard compatibility and meant to say that if your sound card works with Reason, then it will work with Record. Obviously, Record is best suited for contemporary PCs and Macs.
Record Betas should be uninstalled and, you should be using RC4 now - which runs very well! (At least on my computer)
The Time stretching blew me away, a friend managed to sign up for beta testing been playing about with it and all I can say is can't wait till the official release the seemless intergration of Reason is the selling point for me cause we was always rewiring with cubase and I never really was quite comfortable with it. Can't play this song without muting some tracks tho quite CPU intense at the mo otherwise lovely song. So Peff u seem like you get inside info r we gonna get any updates to Reason?
i was totaly blown away by the sound quality of the timestrech, i used reason with a FW-1082 tascam. What kind of audio interface do you used to make this song ?
Does i can export REX file with Record, to used with the dr rex ?
ps: i have some problem with the "mon mix" option on my tascam , since i used the controle device in reason this week i hope is nothing, maybe i must contact Tascam for that litle problem.
