In other words, they cut and roll tape. There are a few reasons a break can roll off cue. A glitch in the equipment can cause a miscue, someone could make an errant click of a mouse, or the break can be loaded into the wrong cart, meaning it plays when another file is supposed to roll. It doesn't always start at frame one
either. Many ads are rolled in the middle through these various glitches and mistakes. What this was, specifically, is a bump out, or a logo with a voiceover ("Sponsored by McDonald's") played to take the show into break. The logo was probably set to start fullframe and then reduces itself to a 1/4 screen or so bug. This was no subliminal message. They don't have to do that. They have much less obvious and much, much more effective means of conveying messages covertly.

OMG people are so stupid. *facepalm* ok let me explain this for you guys. Every type & form of programming has it's own paid slots that companies pay for their commercials to be in. Even local tv being broadcasted by a national network have commercials "layered" over each other. A commercial by a local company may interrupt a commercial by a national company because it's "layered" over it.
