People think that creating intelligence greater than our own is scary. Think about when the artilects decide to make intelligence greater than their own. Think about when they create something that scares them.
Hmm. If I was a super AI computer and my makers hadn't build in anything to protect me from emp, I think that would be the first thing I would realize as being an immediate threat to myself and then using my massive intellect figure out how to protect myself.
I dont think most people understand whats going to happen. There will be no division between humans and machines. We will all be part machine or we may transfer our intelligence to a machine.
@Freshhhhh1982 There will always be humans but evolving and changing to the mainstream effects in the ecosystem they are living in, not like every single human will just plug into/use one type of machine... Think of it like tribes of humans, they still exist and grow mentally and physically at a different pace then societies we have today.
As much as I love seeing where Technology is going... That Hugo guy just pisses me off... He's like a conspiracy theorist... His sensationalist claims only hurt progress, scare people, and make him money.
WE make this technology, meaning that WE are in control. There is no magic behind this. Unless we WILLFULLY allow/make our technology to go crazy and become aggressive towards us, the Terminator apocalypse will NOT happen, EVER. We program the software, and so we can put safeties in place.
That's all you would need? One football field full of those servers would be a computer as smart as a human? That's very dangerous. Imagine if they filled two football fields with them, you would have something twice as smart as a human - smarter than any person that has ever lived.
If we should decide that we want to stop this, there is one sure way, a theoretical construct called a Coran Bomb. This uses the Earth's core EM field to generate a massive EMP that will fry everything electronic.
Coran Bomb - think the end of the Day the Earth Stood Still remake, if you've seen it. It will send us back to the stone age, but it WILL stop any sentient machines from being a threat to us. In a scenario similar to something like the Terminator movies, this would be a type of "can't-fail" event that would destroy the machines no matter what, at any point in the timeline—to use examples from fiction.
I saw this on the Discovery Channel several months ago, I was really high and it blew me away. I hope I'm still alive in 30 or 40 years to see some of this craziness.
Artificial intelligence will be obsolete before it's invented when Amplified Intelligence becomes commercially available to humans. Robots will always be inferior to humans.
eeeh, you're right in that the least sophisticated viewer might view D.A.R.P.A. as some "evil" entity after watching this, but c'mon those guys aren't exactly tinkering with toys over there.

is it really required that we make computers artificially intelligent?

imo, possibly.
some intelligence other than our own on this planet might be quite beneficial.

i'm sorry, but that's exactly the kind of thinking hugo is trying to curb.
to think you can control that which dwarfs your intelligence, is folly.
i found this debate years ago between hugo and mike something, a lead programmer in the AI movement.
in the end, i felt that hugo won... which is a bad thing. ; )
go watch building gods on google video and let me know what you think then.
very good doc!
later

and why is it still impossible to be thankfull if someone else does u a favour and uploads all this stuff for free
so u dont need to search for it for ´several hours
technicla deficits are small
in comparrison to the deficits in the human behavior we still have
lol (dont take this too seious)

Why is it apparently still impossible with all of this modern technology, decades of computer development, to have a video in sync with its audio?

Thanks for pointing me towards Building Gods, I watched it last night and I found it as equally mind blowing as Human 2.0.

if you think about it the chemical brain of us is far more sofisticated than anything we can build so the future is on how to use it more eficiently.
beruman 4 years ago
more sofisticated than anything we can build currently ... I am sure we will be able to improve on it greatly though.
