It took Calgary ten years to recover from this goal. How many decades will it take Vancouver to recover from Game 7 against Boston in this year's Final?
The all too familiar scenario of Calgary losing in overtime in Game 7 or being eliminated on an overttime goal during the 90's and it carries on even today, only that they just get eliminated period in the first round or don't make the playoffs. The only exception to the rule since theri '89 Cup win was their 2004 run.
Why does the overtime playoff goal scored by Alex Burrows of the Vancouver Canucks against the Chicago Blackhawks, remind me so much of the OT goal Pavel Bure scored against the Calgary Flames in 1994? A successful drive in the playoffs of 1994 (even though they came up short in winning the Stanley Cup) and a hopeful successful one in 2011.
Well Calgary got there revenge against Van on 2004, its strange Canucks beat the flames hear and went on to the cup final and then 10 years later the Flames beat the Canucks as the 6th seed and went on to the cup final both teams could not win the cup unbelievable! This was a great win for the Canucks in there history!! I became a Canucks fan after they lost to New York now I pray every day that this great team in Vancouver will soon have a Stanley cup!
There's something about Don Wittman's voice that reminds me of being a kid and still believing in the Canucks. Eventually I would come to understand that Bettman had a different idea.
@surfer53 I was an Oiler fan growing up , stiil am , but Don's is the voice of spring for me. RIP Mr. Wittman. His call of the 1990 Dave Ellett goal in game 4 against the Oilers , for the Jets , is an all time classic!
That's so funny watching this video. My friends are at 1:48 behind Pat Quinn (the guy in baseball hot waving the towel) and at 3:36 behind Pavel Bure.
He had a bad attitude. We all know the story of how and why he left the Canucks, which is why his number will never be raised. Unlike Linden. No, of course Linden wasn't nearly as talented as Bure, but he was first class all the way.
@MrWestcoast45 You have no idea what you are talking about. Pavel was RUN out of town by our shitty organization. We treated him like a third class citizen. I'm happy he got to leave, only wished it could've been earlier so he'd spend his career somewhere where he'd be appreciated. One of the best Canucks of all time.
@L4cer8 ...actually you have no idea what YOUR talking about....Pavel developed a primadonna attitude...which is why he survived in Florida and New York for short stints...any NHL player who played with him after Vancouver will tell you that....as i recall Trevor Kidd, who played with Pavel in Fla..said the same thing after they traded Bure....
will NEVER get tired of watching this. this was the greatest game in Canucks history. and that was by far the greatest goal in Canucks history. the most incredible thing is that it followed the greatest save in canucks history.
now this is a goal where this is no dispute..unlike Otto's goal 5 years earlier where he was in the crease and deflected the puck in with his skate....he even wouldnt comment on it when they asked him..DENIAL!!!...
it was brown who messed everything up for Kirk McLean... he was giving it to his wife. thats why browns got traded.... mclean was never the same after that. so sad... i love mclean! greatest save ever in this game!
i was at game 5 against dallas when we won that series and game 5 against toronto when adams scored to send us to the cup. what a year....unreal time for the canucks...what run....the run by the habs the year before was incredible too!
I remember starting the parade near Hastings and Renfrew by Pacific Coliseum up in East Van and ending Downtown on Robson. 94 Canucks rocked, that team was so exciting to watch!
oh my i remember this game also canucks down by 1 with less then 5 minutes togo in the 3rd you never knew what was going to happen so excited to see them win and have the run that they did
Be hard pressed to find a more exciting player who ever played the game. Loved scoring goals more than anyone, even Ovechikin IMO. But my goodness he was exciting and frigin explosive speed. We in Vancouver were lucky to have him for as long as we did.
Bure FTW. The Best Canuck!!!

funny anytime these two teams meet in the posties one goes out and the other goes on to the finals....in Calgary's case it was a championship once.

You got that right. If the NHL had the same rules in 1989 that it has now, Joel Otto's goal wouldn't have counted.
