He finished the race. He may of been in pain but he made it. He was being monitored, he wasn't in danger. For those of you scoffing at him have some humility. "winning isn't everything, wanting to is". He did it for the love of the run.
Thank god for that kid falling, otherwise this video would have been terrible. Who records cross country anyways? I'd rather watch grass grow. Very inspirational.
For the people who dont understand why his teammates didnt pick him up is because any physical contact to aid a runner results in automatic disqualification to both runners. if you watch the video again when the one kid goes to pick him up you hear the official blow their whistle keeping both of them from disqualification
Why the fuck didn't they pick him up after seeing him collapse multiple times?! It could have been a severe and life threatening situation for him. Finishing a race is not worth more than a life. The paramedics come in after waiting for him to finish.. for fucks sake did nobody think he could have died?
This is actually very common at state meets especially among top 20 runners. They push themselves so hard and usually collapse due to dehydration. This wasnt that he couldn't run 3.1 miles it was his body just not having anything left. XC season is long and grueling and it eventually catches up to you
I ripped to tendons in my right foot two days before districts this year. I pushed through it and somehow still ran 17:21. I mean, this happened to me after the race, but not like that. My body gave out, but I was able to get up and going again. I'm not sure whether to be empathetic or mad at the kid.
I don't know if people realize this here, but if anyone not in the race would have tried to help (even just stand him up) he would have been disqualified.
All you people saying you run XC should know that this is a highschool race and thus only 3.1 miles. If that is your "point of exhaustion" you should probably take up golf or something.

THEN come back and pitch in your two-cents. as an athlete i've worked my ass off, but i've never dared (or been mentally tough enough) to push myself this far. this kid is one bad ass mofo!
since i am a xc runner i can empathize what he was feeling. unfortunately his resolve wasnt enough to beat his body into submission and soldier on. i have had a body shut down on me before but after i crossed the line. hopefully that taste of disappointment on fuels the fire inside of him. it did take alot of guts to finish though, i will say that
Being a xc runner myself, I know what its like to be almost done and feel like you can't take another step. Its like a war in your brain: your body telling you can't finish and your mind telling you you can. Its hard but motivating. Good job to that boy.
@hatebush1234 Well, when i think of intelligence i think about complex situations you have to analyze, not just follow a simple rule like "you don't sprint right at the start". Strength has nothing to do with a tired out 80 pound runner trying to run a little faster than 3 mph. Technique, i think about gymnastics, basketball, soccer, MMA. Strategy would be involved in teamsports or boxing matches. Well everyone has his own associations with specific abilities.
wow. this kid has heart & guts. i suspect he will go far in life, no pun intended.
x country is not 'hardest sport' in itself. that depends more on individual strengths/weaknesses. what's hard about xc tho: even on team, it's 100% individual based, solitary. one can not pass ball to other person or rely on anyone else. opposite is crew, where all eight rowers must be 100% in sync. both are hard & require serious discipline in their own right.
@Scorpian974 If someone would have touched him from outside the lines, he would have been instantly disqualified......and they thought it better to somehow cheer him on. I'm thinking that if it were my son, after about 30 seconds of watching it, I'd have yanked him out of bounds and flung him on a stretcher.....then I might have had poop hit the fan from him later, but maybe it would have been the better choice. I don't know.

it would happen given a certian set of circumstances. if you have races, say perhaps a triathlon, the use of diferent muscles from the swim, cycle and then to the run burns their enargy and eats at the muscle causing your body to rely on extra fats. Now, if you havn't had enough food prior to this type of race you will quickly hit the wall. this is possibly the most demorilising thing that can happen in a race because you loose the ability to push. you also stuggle to stay standing up.

Still amazed everybody is patting this delicate flower on the back so much. Get up, pussy. It's only 3.1 miles. I mean, seriously, Jesus H. Christ on a motherfucking pogo stick. In HS, when coach would send us out on our gay ass "practice" runs during the week, I'd run to my gf's house, get high, fuck her in the ass, splash water on my face and run back to coach an hour later. Showed up on weekends, ran in the meets, made all-conference 2x and all-state once. Again...3.1 miles-not that hard.
Oh, wait...it was the fucking my girlfriend up the ass part, huh? Sorry. You're right. That would make me an asshole if that's all I wanted her for. I fucked her in the puss, too.
@mrgenericbrand no it was the whole attention seeking comment actually. NOTHING anyone can ever say will ever offend me on you tube or in reality, i lack the give a fuck factor, i just like to point out when people are being pathetic, hence the reason i commented u
@TheTruthSlave The "give a fuck" factor...ha! Funny stuff. Yeah, it was just an attention seeking comment. Was bored, and the video jogged (no pun intended) my memory regarding my own running experiences. Still think if you're looking to point out when people are being pathetic, you could point to the kid in this video as exhibit A.
@TheTruthSlave Oh, wow. You completely took away my ammunition, and my will to continue to spread ugliness by trolling about youtube. You're good. Friends, it is.
Damn. Obviously that's inspiring and all and my heart goes out to the guy as a fellow high school XC runner, but I can't help thinking that he really shot his team in the foot. I mean he went from top 10 to 80+? I KNOW! I KNOW! It's awful, but still...
One time this happened to me . . .I rejected other people's help like that kid . . . this other kid kicked me in the face while i was passing too. I layed there and the next thing I knew I was on a bridge. I eventually learned that I was in a coma and in some sort of purgatory. I probably don't have enough space for the whole story so I'll just tell you that I found a lot of hot women who were trying to kill me. It turned out that they wouldn't kill me if i cross-dressed so now im like this
@SrSlicky I had a runner suffer a collapsed lung at mile one of a cross country race. He finished despite all common sense. If his other one had gone, he would have died. He had previously suffered a collapsed lung, recovered, and been given permission to compete by his doctor). In hind sight, I should have grabbed him and pulled him out of the race, as I stongly suspected that he had suffered the collapse again.
Just because a kid thinks he is able to do something doesn't mean he should
Haha its a 5k! High school races are only 3.1 miles long! The body stores enough glycogen to race comfortably for 18 miles. Hence the wall during during marathons n gel packs r used to try and overcome it. Its physiologically impossible for this to happen, you can't bonk on a 3 mile race. The kid was probably super dehydrated from lack of preparation at which point its his own fault. At least he finished. I think he has seen one to many you tube videos though.
@Deerturdz Actually you can have a bonk with a race with this distance. If he had an insulin spike caused by poor nutrition prior to the race (high glycaemic index) can trigger this. So with that insulin spike his blood glycemia went to zero thus causing this.
@SrSlicky He would fatigue before he 'bonked', and blood glucose cannot reach zero = coma or die. An insulin spike ya, if he ate sugar/carbs, but its going to push energy into the muscle, which is where the energy is created in the mitochondria. The spike would only make running more anaerobic. He would throw up, not bonk. Crashing would be attributed to something else... disease maybe, at which point he hopefully would be monitored and cleared for activity like this. Or he is being dramatic.
God, I feel so bad when that happens. It just shows that he really gave EVERYTHING he had. At our state meet this year, some girl couldn't even stand so she summersaulted to the finish...
I watch this video from time to time to remind me of how difficult not just cross country can be, but also life. This kid was the absolute definition of perseverance and determination. Never give up!
@jubjubevan123 I actually can run, quite well in fact. It's not hard you see. I started running at about the time I was one or two years old. As do most humans, and with me being a physically fit healthy person, I am quite the adequate runner.
@jubjubevan123 You are full of it. You CERTAINLY are NOT an "all american athlete" or a personal trainer. The only award you probably ever one is the fatass award. Oh wait you probably also won the jerk award too! Nice job!
@jubjubevan123 You win the award for not even being able to reply to the right person. And I love how everybody's first comeback is to call me a fatass, or a liar. Yet, they cannot see me or know me. So best part is, I laugh at you guys because... you are wrong. And every attempt you have at scraping together your last bit of "internet dignity" is laughable. So keep calling me fat, and i'll let you keep on proving that you are a simpleton.
funny of how a lot of people saying hes a pussy. the fuck you guys are talking about? Hes here racing a 5k race while your there sitting in your cold, dark, miserably lonely room saying shit on your computer.
@JordanGuitar11 I was actually an all-american athlete and am now a personal trainer and exercise science major about to enter medical school to become a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist. In short, I actually know a thing or two. But don't be fooled, I also know my fair share about spelling and grammar. Maybe I'm not perfect at it, but considering your approximate 2nd grade proficiency I'm sure I could be of some assistance. For more info, please call me at 1-800-GO-FUCK-YOURSELF
@0NLYUSEmeTROLL im no mathematician but im sure that is not a actual number. i dont care what the hell you think you are or what you actually are, the kid has spirit and thats probably more than what you can say for yourself. wether he can run the race or not, he is giving it a go. im sure if that was you, you would of given in. trust me i know, 8 surgeries later at 16 years of age and im still giving it my all.
@JordanGuitar11 Well yeah, I was born with one and it stopped growing at some point in puberty. Unlike you, I have no need to "grow" one apparently. You may wanna get that looked at.
Also illustrates why coach had us do over 230 miles this season... To prevent things like this from happening. That and eating better and drinking more fluids...
Great job kid! His teammates shouldn't have touched him though... him and everyone that touched him all had the possibility of getting DQ'd. And did his body just shut down or what?
anyone who says "it's just a 5k". When you run competetvly, you don't run at a leisurely pace, you run to the point where you can't run any harder or faster. Happens to every real runner
They have a slow finish. I saw one running like PREFONTAINE!!!!!! Wow seriously, that kid could have placed and look at him crawling. My coach would eat a girl like that up. Make no mistake he was probaly really hurt, but I still finished a race with a fractured shin, and pulled calf muscle.
jeez, how fucking tired is he!!!So proud of him finishing the cross country, I think the cheers and his own determination really help cross the line!!
from the looks of it.. it seems as if hes in the top twenty before he collapsed. to all you haters fuck off. at least he was determined enough to finish the race even if he had to crawl to the finish line. who gives a fuck if you dont like cross country.. then why are you watching videos about the sport. i give this kid a lot of credit. i would cheer him on.. theres no other sport that gets you the runners high especially after finishing a race with a crowd full of people cheering you on
@IchWillArgentina Patetic? First, learn to spell. Second, he pushed his body over the limit. I am sure you are doing the same thing. Just go eat another bag of doritos. He finished through all that pain. Good on him!
@Courtfab21 slow, fast, or inbetween, you complete a 5K, many people cannot even do that. Be proud of whatever your time is, knowing you completed it, go for it. You may find it'll give you more endurance for basketball. I had friends that did both, and they said that they could run up and down the court the whole game without getting winded, while others were out of breath. Go for it, XC is very rewarding
ive been running cross country for two seasons in high school and its been the best expreience of my life i only hav next year left until i graduate and ima make it the best season ever!! ohh im not a guy by the way(x im a girl and i average about a 7 minute pace and finish at like a 22:18 sooo far:o XC!!:D
for everyone saying this kids a wimp he made it to states if you make it to states it means you have to be top 15 in your district about 8 schools with 50 people each thats around 400 people then you have to get through regionals wich is top 15 and thats four districts wich means you have to be top 15 out of 1600 runners not very easy.
im a freshman running in northern virginia i went to national championships for the mile this summer and i came 17th in my district aveeraging 5:33 mile pace
holy shit dude! 1- that sucks bad went from what like 10th to 80th place not 50 ft from finish line? damn! 2- talk about determination. the most emberassing and painfull moment of his life he still crawled cross even though couldnt even crawl. if nothing else that kid better get some job offers outta that cause that kid defines determination. holy cow that was brutal lol
Kid has my respect. For those of you who are saying "just 3.1 miles". Shut it.
Its about how hard you run those miles. Dude was obviously pushing his limit, and obviously has more guts than you.

@hatebush1234 Sports where you have to use your intelligence, stamina, strength, technique, strategy and much more.
Running = just running = only stamina<-- for unathletic dumb folks (except sprinting, there is at least some technique involved).
awhoergek 1 month ago
@awhoergek i can easily summarize that up for you
intelligence=knowing NOT to go out in a full sprint for the first mile cause of excitement
stamina=key focus of XC
strength=the hard sprint at the end
technique=learning to maintain a solid form for the whole race
strategy=konwing when to move up FROM the pack or trying to catch somebody you know is getting tired
if you ran in one of these races you'll know there is ALOT to take into account
hatebush1234 1 month ago
@hatebush1234 Well, when i think of intelligence i think about complex situations you have to analyze, not just follow a simple rule like "you don't sprint right at the start". grimatongueworm 2 months ago
Damn. Obviously that's inspiring and all and my heart goes out to the guy as a fellow high school XC runner, but I can't help thinking that he really shot his team in the foot. I mean he went from top 10 to 80+? I KNOW! I KNOW! It's awful, but still...
Fugazi1905 2 months ago
I mean, that's great that he kept trying, but this is just hard to watch.

One of the most inspirational xc videos I've watched. Kudos to him for finishing.

It turned out that they wouldn't kill me if i cross-dressed so now im like this
TheMostDefinately 2 months ago
Cross country is the hardest sport. You need to be physical and mentally strong to even finish.
xx4eversk1llzx 2 months ago
that would fukkin sukk
slimindoesavage 2 months ago
Did it occour to the official that the kid might be in medical trouble and should have been taken off the course immediately?
CoachB03 2 months ago
@CoachB03 people are talking to him, so he probably turned down help in order to finish the race and score for his team.
Brandonlcosta 2 months ago
@CoachB03 Did it occur to you that the kid probably didn't want medical assistance without finishing the race first?
SrSlicky 2 months ago
@SrSlicky I had a runner suffer a collapsed lung at mile one of a cross country race. He finished despite all common sense. If his other one had gone, he would have died. He had previously suffered a collapsed lung, recovered, and been given permission to compete by his doctor). In hind sight, I should have grabbed him and pulled him out of the race, as I stongly suspected that he had suffered the collapse again.
Just because a kid thinks he is able to do something doesn't mean he should
CoachB03 2 months ago
if he was running mt SAC he'd be doing this at mile 2

you don't train to finish a race like that.. something seriously wrong must have happened to him. That dude rules.

Deerturdz 2 months ago
@Deerturdz Actually you can have a bonk with a race with this distance. If he had an insulin spike caused by poor nutrition prior to the race (high glycaemic index) can trigger this. So with that insulin spike his blood glycemia went to zero thus causing this.
SrSlicky 2 months ago
@SrSlicky He would fatigue before he 'bonked', and blood glucose cannot reach zero = coma or die. An insulin spike ya, if he ate sugar/carbs, but its going to push energy into the muscle, which is where the energy is created in the mitochondria. The spike would only make running more anaerobic. He would throw up, not bonk. Crashing would be attributed to something else... disease maybe, at which point he hopefully would be monitored and cleared for activity like this. Or he is being dramatic.
Deerturdz 2 months ago
@SrSlicky or maybe he just pulled his calf muscles. haha. Who knows. We never will

@jubjubevan123 Except for that it is scientifically proven to NOT be the most difficult sport.

@0NLYUSEmeTROLL You are just a retard sitting at his computer. I bet you cant even run. So stop being stupid to those who actually can!
jubjubevan123 2 months ago
@jubjubevan123 I actually can run, quite well in fact. It's not hard you see. I started running at about the time I was one or two years old. As do most humans, and with me being a physically fit healthy person, I am quite the adequate runner.
0NLYUSEmeTROLL 2 months ago
@jubjubevan123 You are full of it. You CERTAINLY are NOT an "all american athlete" or a personal trainer. The only award you probably ever one is the fatass award. Oh wait you probably also won the jerk award too! Nice job!
jubjubevan123 2 months ago
@jubjubevan123 You win the award for not even being able to reply to the right person. And I love how everybody's first comeback is to call me a fatass, or a liar. Yet, they cannot see me or know me. So best part is, I laugh at you guys because... you are wrong. And every attempt you have at scraping together your last bit of "internet dignity" is laughable. So keep calling me fat, and i'll let you keep on proving that you are a simpleton.
0NLYUSEmeTROLL 2 months ago
funny of how a lot of people saying hes a pussy. the fuck you guys are talking about?

0NLYUSEmeTROLL 2 months ago
@0NLYUSEmeTROLL im no mathematician but im sure that is not a actual number. i dont care what the hell you think you are or what you actually are, the kid has spirit and thats probably more than what you can say for yourself. wether he can run the race or not, he is giving it a go. im sure if that was you, you would of given in. trust me i know, 8 surgeries later at 16 years of age and im still giving it my all.

anyone who says "it's just a 5k".

Make no mistake he was probaly really hurt, but I still finished a race with a fractured shin, and pulled calf muscle.
playalot1 2 months ago
@playalot1 man sthu you dont know what happend. Pulled muscles dont really slow you down anyway, once you get past the pain you run normal.

from the looks of it.. it seems as if hes in the top twenty before he collapsed. to all you haters fuck off. at least he was determined enough to finish the race even if he had to crawl to the finish line. who gives a fuck if you dont like cross country.. then why are you watching videos about the sport. i give this kid a lot of credit. i would cheer him on.. theres no other sport that gets you the runners high especially after finishing a race with a crowd full of people cheering you on

Courtfab21 3 months ago
@Courtfab21 slow, fast, or inbetween, you complete a 5K, many people cannot even do that. Be proud of whatever your time is, knowing you completed it, go for it. You may find it'll give you more endurance for basketball. I had friends that did both, and they said that they could run up and down the court the whole game without getting winded, while others were out of breath. Go for it, XC is very rewarding

for everyone saying this kids a wimp he made it to states if you make it to states it means you have to be top 15 in your district about 8 schools with 50 people each thats around 400 people then you have to get through regionals wich is top 15 and thats four districts wich means you have to be top 15 out of 1600 runners not very easy.
im a freshman running in northern virginia i went to national championships for the mile this summer and i came 17th in my district aveeraging 5:33 mile pace
