Malmsteen always was touted as a skilled guitarist, and I don't dispute that. However - being skilled and being a musical artist are two different things as you can see for yourself watching this disaster on stage.
Do your ears a favor and listen to the original performed by Rainbow and you won't have need for this crap anymore.
that is malmsteen...ruining all good songs..trying hard motherfucker....all his solos are the same over and over again...being fast w/o sense is useless..amatuer!!!!!!!!!!
Yngwie should have a rhythm guitar player, at least to know that too much shredding guitar or too loud leading is awful sometimes. and sure, there's no rhythm in his songs live at all...
Yngwie might have started out Having Richie Blackmore as his hero. He now Gives Credit to Vivaldi, Paginini. Mozart, and Beethoven and those Great Classical Composers.
I wouldn't say murder, but he does go overboard with the solos.
The song was pretty well done especially live. I love all the tricks Yngwie does.
You can't compare to Dio, Ripper's a different type of singer, I love what he does though.
Again I revert to Yngwie, freaking calm down with the solo, we know you can shred, learn some jazz (It's not the notes you play, it's the notes you DON'T play!!!! lol).
@purpendicular69 because there is no point of covering a song if you make it exactly the same.... i like yngwies version better.. its more modern and really neocllasicaly arranged thus it fits the lyrics a whole lot, i agree Dio's voice is like godsend for this song but Soto does a great job too....
I am really happy for these guys...it finally hit yesterday just how similar this Rising Force lineup is to the Rainbow Rising era lineup was: Tim=Dio, Malmsteen=Blackmore, etc. And then finding that they've been covering my favorite Rainbow song just as the icing on the cake for me...great cover by these guys...Tim sounded ALOT like Dio, and Malmsteen just plain RULES!
great rendition of this song with Tim Owens. This guy rocks! I hope Yngwie's new album has heavy songs to live up to Tim (because his other albums certainly aren't heavy enough). But anyways, I love all versions of Gates of Babylon (Dio's, JSS', Tim's). :)
You know what's sad? That Malmsteen and Dio did that Aerosmith cover-"Dream On"-together, not to mention Stars/Hear'n'Aid but couldn't work it out for Dio to sing on Malmboy's cover of "GoB".
Even worse, the two are such major egos that Dio and Malmsteen are too awesome to be in the same room together.
They could produce music with the brilliance of old-school Rainbow and the Heaviness of Black Sabbath/Heaven'n'Hell plus plus what Dio originally did with Viv Campbell.

Not Ronnie James Dio....that's for certain! Yikes!
Sounds like someone who is getting paid by the lack of dynamics in their vocal tone.

The solo unvails the difference between Ritchie and Malmsteen.
What do I mean by that ?
Malmsteen is without taste, he is like
Christina Aguilera on guitar..
