I was appalled at the idea she wanted me to to continue putting money into a program that wasn't even teaching what I was there to learn. I didn't go back and to this day I have not gotten a job in my degree field. I still owe them the equivalent of a new house and a new car in loan payments
I hated every aspect of school. the last school I went to the students rebelled against the admin cause of the poor learning conditions in the classroom and we had state accreditation called into investigate. when I sat down with the women for accreditation I told her about the poor learning environment the lack of class equipment the out of date teaching practices and she told me, you should go ahead and finish anyway cause having an F or not graduating a class would look bad on my record.
it wasnt that I didnt like the history of art I hated the way it was taught. I slept through all the lectures and recorded them on tape so I could go over them and learn in a way that actually benefited me on my own time.
When I took the class again it was the same exact curriculum and I had all the answers to every test cause even though I failed I still had all my corrected notes and tests from the previous semester. I memorized the tests and passed with the highest grade the second time around.
you know I remember when I was in school and I got my first Grade D on my report card in like 4th grade.my parents were so mad and told me I would never get anything below a grade C or else. When I reached college I was in this Boring Art history class. We sat there in the dark for like 2.5 hours looking at projected slides and being expected to memorize them.
That was the first class I failed since grade school and I was so embarrassed that I never told my family about it.
100% Correct. "Schooling" is NOT the same thing as "Learning." the Answer? Do away with schools altogether. They are completely unnecessary. But if course, this will never happen in a blind society.
In my opinion being forced to go to school and forced to learn useless crap like calculus etc that you have no interest in whatsoever is sort of violating a very basic human right - the right to freedom and the right to decide what enters our minds and what doesen't. It's just that school gets way too involved with young people's lives. Does anyone else agree?
I agree that education is severely damaged in the world, and that schools oftentimes focus on bending people to their will rather than efficiently educating the masses while allowing for creativity and individuality.
I can't say I hate school though. I dislike having to be sheep and be part of a percentage to be tamed, but at the same time, I'm incredibly grateful that such a thing is offered for the public and I know that I would not be an educated person were there not public education.
I'm going to write a letter, and send it to every teacher in my school. This letter will be about the school system, and what it does to us. I won't forget to cite my sources, I will also ask for a grade. And it will say if you really care about us, as students, then why not read this and consider the wrong doings of the public school education?
your right, what do you think about the idea that schools and such institutions which encourage blind obedience etc, are actually the deliberate effort of some entity near the top of society which actively wants an obedient unchallenging society....maybe something like the illuminati
I'm glad there are other people out there that think alike.
People will cling onto their shit job, fuel-guzzing car and box house just to avoid admitting they wasted up to 20 years of their lives (university included) and that they were fooled into accepting a life they hate.
The real problem is that they will continue repeating the pattern and school their kids, forcing them to accept a life which was imposed on the parents as well.
If it weren't for taxes many of us could survive in The Garden. We are certainly legislated into the factory. Look around, it's the MO of $. Why do so many people follow a myth about a man who lead his people into a desert? What's the deal with the $nake on a $tick? Who pays for medicine? The Garden was the medicine and the food, clothing, and shelter. We are drawn and driven out more each day. All we need is plants.
I'd like to see how you came to the conclusion that the early labor movement was people not wanting to work monotonously, rather than centered around bad working conditions, and long hours.
Especially since the last thing they were doing wasn't monotonous at all, farming.
Yeah, that is what it sounds like I'm saying, all right, and a boneheaded claim it is. But I think the overall picture is still accurate. School was designed to foster obedience, conformity, regimentation, hierarchical thinking, seeking truth and justice from external authority.
Monotonous is often a way I, at least, am inclined to reflect entrapment - sometimes as a deep seeded anxiety and other times a literal confinement, suchlike fieldwork vs factory work. When something is "monotone", it is often depressing and the subject is confined to a small set of options or rules, hence being "of one tone". Albeit farming may not be grossly varied in its work-habits, but I'd definitely take the open-setting over a factory, cavern or Taco Bell any day.

thank you for saying that to some extent, not all the work we do really matters or is important or will ever be needed or remembered in school

My question is: How do you undo the damage?

I definitely agree with the rest of what your saying: that schools exist to foster obedience. You don't learn in school you are taught.
Creativity is stunted and buckets are filled instead of fires being lit.
I don't think that is the main reason for the evolution of the labor movement.
