THIS IS SO BAD!!! WHY IS SHE SPINNING IN THE AIR!?! Attackers, stay balanced in the air and do not turn your hips like this video explains. OH MY GOD!
Hitting is the one of the hardest (if not THE hardest) things you can learn in a sport. There are so many moving parts! 50% of the attack is out of the hitters control even. It's such a tandem in between the attacker and setter.
Reason people don't like this sport is because it is a hard sport to play. With a little practice, anyone can shoot a basket ball or kick a ball or throw a foot ball, but no one can spike or set or sometimes even serve a volleyball if he or she has little practice of the sport. If you put all the beginners in the volley ball court and let them play, they'll look like fools, but if you put a bunch of fools in a soccer field, or basket fields, they'll look like great players.
im 5'2 now and 4'11 when i started playing.. hard at first to spike because i needed to jump higher but practices is what get you good.. and now i play every spot except middle blocker.. ill set instead of play middle.. and im in the 11th grade.. been playing since 6th..
i was told this in my 2nd month in volleyball, so hopefully this will get to you before it was really late for me the footwork is step then step-step- when you land on your right leg(assuming you are right handed) you rapidly plant your left foot,so left... right-left.
@Theleilisa You can be any height and be good at volleyball, even though I am tall I still have girls on my team less than 5'5 an they are exellent players
Error 2 is absolutely not an error, she does it right. If you jump like that you have different options to smash the ball. If you jump with your body towards the net you don´t have a choice
@pauloroberto125 If her body's turned towards the camera /or sideways/ how she's supposed to spike on her left? She spikes a place she can hardly see?
@pauloroberto125 yes in a middle approach you should be a little facing towards the setter. But she is a little too sideways.. It takes any power away from her cut to one.
I'm 14, and volleyball for me is a way of life, its a passion. I hate when people say volleyball is a "gay" sport, when its probably one of the more exciting sports and should be more popular!
people who say volleyball is "gay" won't be saying that when someone spikes the ball right in their face, now will they?
@orangeporanges Agreed :) I also hate it when people say volleyball is easy. It is way more complex than any other sport (in my opinion) and should be more popular. It is exciting to watch and play - way more than basketball or football or baseball.
@TheLeilisa 5'10 is INCREDIBLE for volleyball. using your height will help you whoop some butt. you'll most likely become a middle, but hey, im only 5'8 and i hit middle and im taller than most girls. but you gotta know how to use your height.(:
@wellthatshilarious23 well it has been 6 months since i dropped that comment and actually i grew 3 inches within the 6 months thanks to w....helpogrowth.commm
no wonder my attacks suck. I have been doing it all wrong. I am a basketball player, and it is kinda hard not to jump with one leg to reach the ball with one arm only. That habit is killing me when I practice volleyball. Anyway, I will try to do it as shown in the video. Let's hope it works.
@JohnRobSur13 I see where you're at. My friend was a basketball player when she tried learning how to attack, but she was mostly doing something along the lines of a layup. I disagree with most people on here - I think she did it perfectly. You should be semi-facing the setter and swing your hips, and I was taught that your first step should be large and your last steps short. I don't care if it's wrong - it's worked for me, and I've gotten that ball over the net and we've won because of it.
@wellthatshilarious23 Got it. Thanks for the advice. I stopped playing volleyball a while ago and I would still like to practice it, but you know how school is sometimes. However, what I tried was hitting with my left hand so that way I could gain momentum while facing the setter. I do not know, but it worked for me. I hope I can enroll into volleyball next semester!!!
@JohnRobSur13 Whatever works :) I'm useless with my left hand when it comes to attacks. Well, you'll probably be able to get in. My first year ever of playing volleyball was last year and by some miracle I got in with nearly no experience. I'm sure someone with experience will be able to get on the team. :)
Some of the skills you'd learn in volleyball are; quick thinking, quick decision making, quick reaction, mind reading of others, concentration, and team playing.
This is the most entertaining and team involving sport i've ever seen. It is the coolest shit ever. I wonder why it is less popular than football or basketball or anyother sports like these. If you acctually play it for a couple of weeks it starts to pump through your veins :) (that's what happened to me)
lol . yeah , thats true . i thought this sport was so dumb till my eighth grade year i tried out & i was the best on the team . now im a freshmen & i made varsity volleyball ! this sport is addicting
@iCrisx i gues its quite unpopular because it just makes fun if you can play volleyball. If you have never played volleyball before and you are just trying anyhow to get the ball over the net its quite boring.
@iCrisx samee! i havent even been playing for a whole year and i eat, sleep, and BREATH volleyball.. haters can stfu volleyballs amazing and NOT easy at all
yes , that is the biggest mistake some coaches are teaching. you only rotate if you are swinging to the line and is not a full rotation. That is the reason most players hurt their shoulders cause if the set is to far inside they use all arm rotation to hit cross. Fundamentals = right mechanics of volleyball, floor movement, footwork, passing , hitting and setting.
she rotates sideways on her approach, this limits the area of attack in which she can hit the ball. first mistke, he doesnt even notice or care to talk about.
you need to attack the ball semi straight on so you can choose the path you wish to hit the ball.
this is not the only approache that a player cand do. there is other ways to do it. there are ways to modify an approach or spike to create your own style
i dont know, i have always learnt of my volley teacher ( he have wun DM 7 times with her old team) that you have to have the front in front of the nets ..
For a basic hit watch the ball and when its at the highest point about to come down, start your apporach. and remember to open your hips to your setter, so you get more swing.
I meant start your approach when its at the highest point, and speed it up and slow down depending on your set. Cus someone asked when to start your approach. =)
no you should be with the ball as it reaches it point. if you wait till it reaches its peak climax highest point to do your approach you are to late and wont get in a full swing.
Spiking does not come over night..you have to play as much as possible, try hitting up against a wall to get your snap down...you take off at the peak of the set, when it starts coming down...you take off with a very quick arm swing and contact at your peak of your jump...remember to snap..Good luck and remember to play pickup vball as much as possible!!!
Hey Ive played volleyball in high school for 1 year now, but still having problems with timing the hit and approach. When exactly is a good time to start your approach? Any tips are great thx
If the ball is at its highest point, you start going (unless if you know it's gonna be a very low pass, then you start before that) At least, that's how ppl taught me when I was 10 (:
Im right handed and ive been taught left, right left too. But Ive never noticed that i step right, left right. Is that okay even though im right handed....because i cant break the habbit of right left right.
nah ur gonna have to break that habbit somehow. u can even use a 2 step approach which is just right left for quick hard hits. id suggest left right left though for max power in your spikes
Well chynaganda next time you practice your hitting look at your shoulders. That used to be the problem for me. wherever your shoulders are facing thats where the ball is gonna go
hi im evan garcia. im a volleyball player. im a high school student.. i have a problem.. can you guys help me? i can jump high, i an reach the net, or even higher. i know the spike approach and the fundamentals but why does my spike go out? can you help me?
More than likely you are not getting your non-hitting hand up. The non-hitting hand is used to keep you behind the ball. If it does not get up you will tend to float under the ball and hit it behind your head. This will cause it to travel long.
its pry because you are infront of the ball not behind it and you not getting on top of the ball...you should be hitting the ball at 12 o'clock you may be hitting it at 9 o'clock....hope this helps!
hey, i'm an entering highschool student, but someone on my 8th grade team this year has the same issue. my opinion is that when you hand comes in contact with the ball that you snap your wrist down so it goes down at a steeper angle. Hope it helps :]
hey dude. Im a volleyball player as well. N well next time you go practice, try looking at your shoulders. I remember that used to be the problem for me. When you hit the ball, wherever your shoulders are facing thats where the ball is gonna go
Are you getting under the ball instead of keeping the ball in front of you? One of the biggest reasons people hit the ball out is getting under the ball.
Also, make sure you snap your wrist over the ball to give it topspin, which makes it sink faster and more likely to stay in.
ilearned it in such a different way, im a sixth grader and im on varsity 4 junior high and i practice with the high school (im too young to actually play a agme) i think i know how to spike and this is not it
wtf?!?! somebody please help me out... i have to teach a college course on volleyball next fall... I've never played it before so can someone post a video that has correct attacking technique
haha you guys are dumb you turn 90 degrees so you can get power behind the ball hitting right and left other wise a right hander cannot get much power on a hit going to the right
she definately should not be turning that much. seeing as she is taking approaches from the middle and she is doing a three step approach (which around my area is a middle approach with outsides and opposites doing four or two steps) by turning that much, as another person said, she is showing that at most she can hit the right side of the court, probably not even that and only the line.
girls have goofy approaches sometimes, watch a guys approach they hop less and build more momentum, also they jump higher so you will be like wow if he jumps 40 inches and does it that way, maybe i should too. she needs to be more open to the net, a coaching term used before you hit in my area of the country is "up and open" and she is sorta up and almost closed. watch some guys indoor approaches to learn, pro indoor guys have wicked approaches.
FreestyleNL, its just the bottom of the net thats shaped that way because they pulled one side down a lil more to make it tighter, the top of the net is perfectly straight
guys, the whole "if you hit the net, you're a noob" is kind of dumb. guess what? alot of people who watch instructional videos are noobs, or trying to develop a new strategy, there's several approaches to any kind oh hit or pass, you just gotta find one that works for you
Spoken like a true noob. If u can't see the poor technique here, you're saying its ok for others to learn it and screw their technique up. People, please look elsewhere if you want to learn the fundamentals of hitting.
OK Stupid, let me explain the obvious for u. The approach is to build up momentum for your explosive jump. u lose that momentum with the twisting motion - its poor technique. If you touch the net, then you're a noob - sets should be about 3 feet away from the net giving you plenty of room for your follow through and to also hit around the block. With the twisting motion, she's also advertising to the blockers that she's obviously hitting line - easy stuff block and point for the defense.
actually thats not correct. the reason she turns and opens up her body is so when she reaches full heigh, she can throw her whole body into snapping forward and putting the ball down.
what's with the twisting motion? wasted motion if u ask me - poor technique for teaching fundamentals to beginners. needs to square up to the direction she'll be hitting.
no, you're wrong. If you hit the net, you're a noob. U need to stay square to the direction you're hitting (and hit around block). That way u keep the explosive momentum you've built up with your approach. look carefully at her as she plants and twists, she loses that momentum and probably 6" off her vertical.
I think she is turning her hip(left)too much toward the net to where she is pependicular to the net when she jumps. A hitter would have less room for adjustment or varying the hits with this approach, need to be more at an angle.
It takes a lot of practice. Get a ball and hit it down at the wall over and over. Practice snapping your wrist down every time you spike it down at towards the wall. Once you get the wrist snap you will start hitting the ball down inside the court when you are spiking!
i have to agre with erikachatard00. you're probably not snapping your wrist, which is why your hits are oing out. i hav the same problem, but my coach uses a mehtod where he rolls up a bunch of socks, and has us do a typical volleyball approach while throwing a sock onto a court. that motion requires that wrist snap that people need to really spike a ball and keep it in. it doesn't hav to be socks either. tennis balls work just as well too.
THIS IS SO BAD!!! WHY IS SHE SPINNING IN THE AIR!?! Attackers, stay balanced in the air and do not turn your hips like this video explains. OH MY GOD!

I meant start your approach when its at the highest point, and speed it up and slow down depending on your set. Cus someone asked when to start your approach. =)
tishtita 2 years ago
Better not slow down.
Cuz you get your vertical height out of your speed.
So, what you do is wait, wait, wait, and EXPLODE. Try to wait to long so you have to hurry
Hurry = more speed = Higher jumps!
^^
635tijmen0056 2 years ago 2

Depends on the set, if it's really high. Go after highest point, low set. Before highest point.

hey dude. Im a volleyball player as well. N well next time you go practice, try looking at your shoulders. I remember that used to be the problem for me. When you hit the ball, wherever your shoulders are facing thats where the ball is gonna go
JoeyXavi08 2 years ago
Are you getting under the ball instead of keeping the ball in front of you? One of the biggest reasons people hit the ball out is getting under the ball.
Also, make sure you snap your wrist over the ball to give it topspin, which makes it sink faster and more likely to stay in.

Yeah, Do you snap your wrist?
I had the exact same problem.
If you have any other questions, Id be happy to help:) I play high school volleyball aswell.

ilearned it in such a different way, im a sixth grader and im on varsity 4 junior high and i practice with the high school (im too young to actually play a agme) i think i know how to spike and this is not it
iMadison17 2 years ago
no, thats right. i play for a league and it has always been left->right-left(you almost take those two steps together, but not exactly) jump->spike

xGoC 2 years ago
cause its the class that the university assigned me for my assistantship
dneels101 2 years ago
haha you guys are dumb you turn 90 degrees so you can get power behind the ball hitting right and left other wise a right hander cannot get much power on a hit going to the right
lilguyky 2 years ago
that is bollocks... dunno what you learn in the states but this approach is horrid...
you never ever ever jump like that, unless you are just jumping to save a ball or something among the lines of that...
you should also remember that the approach is different from the right from the left or from the middle, and it's really different for leftys
KillaKZAN 2 years ago
i have learned alot

lol " on both foot "
thebreakdowndavid 2 years ago
there's no reason to turn 90 degrees, like a little , ya...
in her defence she can make up for that because she gets torque when she hits the ball and whips around... but she looks like she's gunna bail
Pubguy 2 years ago
she definately should not be turning that much. seeing as she is taking approaches from the middle and she is doing a three step approach (which around my area is a middle approach with outsides and opposites doing four or two steps) by turning that much, as another person said, she is showing that at most she can hit the right side of the court, probably not even that and only the line.
swimspaz14 3 years ago
girls have goofy approaches sometimes, watch a guys approach they hop less and build more momentum, also they jump higher so you will be like wow if he jumps 40 inches and does it that way, maybe i should too. she needs to be more open to the net, a coaching term used before you hit in my area of the country is "up and open" and she is sorta up and almost closed. watch some guys indoor approaches to learn, pro indoor guys have wicked approaches.
swimspaz14 3 years ago
you don't0 see it in 0volleyball games because the player is to fast
chickaya03 3 years ago
I've never seen this technique at the higher levels of play. Weird tutorial if u ask me.
sakitawakdude 3 years ago
I reckon it is the most common technique there is.
AK4769er 3 years ago
it is, but it's kinda weird they learning that but they can't even hang up an net -_-" its hanging in an ( shape..
And thats not fine to practise on..
FreestyleNL 2 years ago
FreestyleNL, its just the bottom of the net thats shaped that way because they pulled one side down a lil more to make it tighter, the top of the net is perfectly straight
jonathank18 2 years ago
then they jsut got an corrupt net :P
FreestyleNL 2 years ago
guys, the whole "if you hit the net, you're a noob" is kind of dumb. guess what? alot of people who watch instructional videos are noobs, or trying to develop a new strategy, there's several approaches to any kind oh hit or pass, you just gotta find one that works for you
NiwdeLagirdam 3 years ago
Spoken like a true noob. If u can't see the poor technique here, you're saying its ok for others to learn it and screw their technique up. People, please look elsewhere if you want to learn the fundamentals of hitting.
sakitawakdude 3 years ago
retard the reason she turns her body is because if you don't your arms will swing into the net....
if you don't know anything stfu
StunnerJohnKim 3 years ago
OK Stupid, let me explain the obvious for u. The approach is to build up momentum for your explosive jump. u lose that momentum with the twisting motion - its poor technique. If you touch the net, then you're a noob - sets should be about 3 feet away from the net giving you plenty of room for your follow through and to also hit around the block. With the twisting motion, she's also advertising to the blockers that she's obviously hitting line - easy stuff block and point for the defense.
closedsession1 3 years ago
actually thats not correct. the reason she turns and opens up her body is so when she reaches full heigh, she can throw her whole body into snapping forward and putting the ball down.
cpoll94 3 years ago
what's with the twisting motion? wasted motion if u ask me - poor technique for teaching fundamentals to beginners. needs to square up to the direction she'll be hitting.
sakitawakdude 3 years ago
yeah u are correct
hvnboi 3 years ago
if she does tht her arm will hit the net and it will b the opposing team's point. and it also creates a better angle.
tmegirl21 3 years ago
no, you're wrong. If you hit the net, you're a noob. U need to stay square to the direction you're hitting (and hit around block). That way u keep the explosive momentum you've built up with your approach. look carefully at her as she plants and twists, she loses that momentum and probably 6" off her vertical.
closedsession1 3 years ago
Or you can ask santa for more vertical for christmas!!!
BIGKANT 3 years ago
I think she is turning her hip(left)too much toward the net to where she is pependicular to the net when she jumps. A hitter would have less room for adjustment or varying the hits with this approach, need to be more at an angle.

i can never get above the ball and hit is down..it always goes across and out
vballsoftbllridingrl 3 years ago
It takes a lot of practice. Get a ball and hit it down at the wall over and over. Practice snapping your wrist down every time you spike it down at towards the wall. Once you get the wrist snap you will start hitting the ball down inside the court when you are spiking!
ErikaChatard00 3 years ago
i have to agre with erikachatard00. you're probably not snapping your wrist, which is why your hits are oing out. i hav the same problem, but my coach uses a mehtod where he rolls up a bunch of socks, and has us do a typical volleyball approach while throwing a sock onto a court. that motion requires that wrist snap that people need to really spike a ball and keep it in. it doesn't hav to be socks either. tennis balls work just as well too.
devhesterfan23 3 years ago
we do use tennis balls and you're right its very ood to check your wrist
SockpopINC 3 years ago
or you just gotta jump higher and smash it!
khashman00000000 3 years ago
You might just jump too close to the ball
