The movies the books and the characters are just.... indescribable i have grown up with lord of the rings and its a part of me a very big thanks to tolkein and peter Jackson for shaping a little part of my life
I don't think that you can place Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, or Star Wars in the same block. They all excel at their own genres. They may all be considered Science Fiction, but even that gets broken down into smaller parts. Lord of the Rings is the best, most inspirational medieval story that's ever been written. Harry Potter, a magical conflict of destiny in the modern world. And Star Wars, a nostalgic future that everyone loves but doesn't want to happen for real. They are all amazing.
@SuperHeroMania And what if I said I did? You can't prove me wrong or otherwise. I'm stating my opinion, you don't need to come in here and make insinuations.
@tawnyclawx I don't need to make insinuations to see that you absolutely have no clue what Star Trek really is by calling it stupid, whether you watched it or not
@tawnyclawx Did I say everybody else has to like it? You just seem to mention it out of nowhere in reply to someone who didn't say anything about Star Trek, some troll you are
"there's some good in this world... and it's worth fighting for" words that surely apply to everyone? without a doubt the most powerful words in a film I've ever heard
What's phenomenal about Tolkien's work and the movie adaptation is that there are many heroic characters in the trilogy. Frodo was the only one willing to destroy the ring above all others, that takes beyond major balls. He couldn't have done it alone though, Sam was just as big a hero, and saved Frodo's life on many occasions. I don't have enough room to explain the heroic roles of the others, but whether or not you like science fiction, this trilogy is very inspirational.
Wiem, to wszystko nie tak. Nie powinniśmy się tu znaleźć. A jednak tu jesteśmy. Jak w bohaterskich opowieściach.... Tych naprawdę ważnych. Mrocznych i pełnych grozy. Baliśmy się poznać ich zakończenie. Bo czyż koniec może być szczęśliwy? Czy świat będzie taki jak dawniej? Choć, stało się tyle zła? Ale w końcu zły czas przemija... Usuwa się w cień. Nawet mrok przemija. Przyjdzie nowy dzień. A kiedy wzejdzie słońce…
@everyboy100 i did too! and i don't even know why i did. just when sam said, "there's good in the world.. and it's worth fighting for", i cried. LOTR - one of the best movies everr!
One of my favourite quotes, friendships like this are rarely found these days, a lot of love for this trilogy. 'There's some good left in this world Mr Frodo, and it's worth fighting for' and the music is beautiful too.
" those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something even if you were to young to understand!" That is the quote that has always stood out if my mind because that is how i feel about this story! I was4-6 when theses movies came out, i knew them by heart even thought i didnt quite understand! And its story's like this one that will stay with me forever!
"Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were to young to understand why." That quote represents The Lord of the Rings in my childhood.
I think what hit me about this scene was how even Smeagal was taken by it. During the movies, I always hoped that they would destroy the ring and his "Gollum" side would disappear.
@MrAbarca6 lol you cant compare any of those... star trek = old tv show, harry potter = youth books, star wars = hollywood space movie, lord of the rings = christian fantasy type book,
as far as the two trilogies, you can't really compare them because they are too different and their meaning socially and their impacts,
as far as human spirit/inspiration, lord of the rings is definately trying to get a message across to humanity, but star wars still had its purpose
@jeffyjeffyjeffy I don't think he was trying to compare them, or say that they were alike in any way. I believe he was just saying, that out of all the popular fantasy movies/books/shows, Lord of the Rings is his favorite. Just because Star Trek, Star Wars, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings are all diverse and great in their own right, doesn't mean you can't have a favorite. :)
@ChibiCheeks101 well yeah, i guess i can see favoritism, its just saying one is better than an other just doesn't make sense, you really can't compare them
@jeffyjeffyjeffy Of course people can compare them (I know not everyone can), they do it all the time. That's how all those silly fan wars start. Him saying that LOTR is the best out of all of them is just another form of favoritism. =) Who cares? It really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things (I'm not even sure what that means in this context! lol!)
Sam is the workhorse. The one who gives and not counts the cost. He toils and doesn't seek for rest. His only care is his love for good. Money can't buy him out. Obstacles don't scare him. In a way, he is like the joker, but instead of seeing the world burn, he wants to see the world shine.
Everyone says they wish they could have a friend like Sam. But really, we all need to try to BE friends like Sam OURSELVES.
Isn't it better to give your friends a Sam (yourself)? That's the kind of selflessness Sam would approve of; rather than waiting for someone to take care of you, try to take care of someone else too!
@FisiVisi uhhh....thank you? I'm not sure what you mean by "prolific", but I'll take it as a compliment. It just occured to me that everyone wants a Sam, but no one will get one without anyone trying to BE one instead, right?
This makes me think of the darkness in our own hearts. When someone is depressed from loss of a loved one or a scarring experience, a shadow of sorrow, anger, fear covers the light of goodness. But keeping faith in oneself is necessary to fight back, and nobility of thought and form arises from defeat of the darkness.
America has been the light on the hill...obama is burning that light out....as hopeless as most of the LOTR seems to frodo - that is how we conservatives feel in these times
@popeous1 i think i can find something wrong with every sentence of your comment
America has been the light on the hill- no it hasnt, what part has made it the light on the hill? the poverty which is far too high for a first world country, the obesity, the discrimination of minority groups?
@popeous1 3.as hopeless as most of the LOTR seems to frodo- wtf? your comparing a world where completely evil armies led by a completely evil leader will probably conquer everything and there's only a slim chance they wont. I'm a liberal socialist living in the uk and i feel annoyed by our conservative majority governments policies but i know that the situation LoTR is a hundred times worse
@popeous1 4. that is how we conservatives feel in these times - frodos worried that the world will become an entirely bad place, your worried that your government is spending too much money, you cant say that obama doesnt mean well, unless your even crazier than i imagined and you think he's the anti christ like a few yanks do. Sorry i had to post 4 times the thing wouldnt let me have enough charachters
Sam gives some of the greatest speeches in the world. Everyone needs a friend like Sam. One who will give you a heart-felt speech when you're down, keep all his promises, and forgive you if you press a sword to his throat.
Imagine if Sam said "each other" at 3:33 like most characters in very recent movies say after a long speech. That would have ruined the whole damn monologue and a major theme of the entire trilogy.
@HoobaNooba That was Tolkien's point, he was a veteran of the great war (ww1) and he later became a huge protestor against war. Sam is based on all the tommy's and batsmen that tolkien was in command of in the first world war.
@HoobaNooba my comment probably seems really sarky, sorry about that, i was on the phone at the time and clicked post by accident, i meant to end it with a smiley face and say it was good tolkiens message got out :)
@TheDocGoblin don't worry it's fine. what i mean by pointless is that we are fighting against our own race and in middle earth they are fighting against an enemy, which are the orcs.
Better than Aragorn's speech at the Black Gate in my opinion.
The beauty of struggle, of hope, and of perseverance is captured so well in this speech, that I can't help but say that for every obstacle that we face, there is something there, something on the other side, waiting for us, be it another obstacle, or the prize we week.
Sometimes all we have is hope, but sometimes, hope is all we need.
i hope in life i can be like sam and frodo .... not matter how big the berdan they know they can't give up .... they have to keep going in order for change.... and just pray to God to help you fight temptation......
Let's all face the facts. Without Sam, Frodo wouldn't have completed his quest. Without Sam, Middle Earth wouldn't have been saved. Samwise Gamgee, brave, true and loyal to the last. I wish I could have a friend like Sam. :')
@Kaagh178 but let us not forget .... Sam also needed frodo...he wouldn't of been strong enough, he would had fallen in temptation ... sam needed freodo as much as frodo needed sam!!!!!!!!!!
Two Towers definitely has the largest message that can be applied to the real world. When Merry & Pippin meet with the Ents, Merry says to the Ents "but you're part of this world!" after the Ents decide not to get involved with war. We all live on the same planet so if there's something going wrong then it affects us all. Whenever something bad happens to someone, that person was someone's son, daughter, or friend. It's important we all get involved to abolish bad things from our world.
This speech has always reminded of the tragedy of 9/11. And now, ten years later, it still does. America has grown stronger as nation. There IS good in this world and it IS worth fighting for. God bless our troops who are fighting for the good left in our world. Good bless America. Never forget. 9/11/2001
I cry everytime I see this part. Sam is the bestfriend we all wish we had. Frodo would be no where without him. Every part that makes me cry in the Lord of the rings trilogy involves Sam in some way. In the Fellowship of the Ring, when he swims after frodo in th boat and almosts drowns. And of course all of his inspirational speechs throughout the series. Sam is just over all amazing.. :)
RUDY! RUDY! RUDY! RUDY! RUDY! RUDY! ps the main theme to rudy has alot of the same notes as the shire theme check it out sometime, both are awesome soundtracks

@HoobaNooba my comment probably seems really sarky, sorry about that, i was on the phone at the time and clicked post by accident, i meant to end it with a smiley face and say it was good tolkiens message got out :)
TheDocGoblin 3 months ago

@TheMultiForge That is because it's nog Gollum but Smeagol who is listening.

The brilliant symbolism is that Frodo has Sam in the exact same position he had Gollum when they first met. A sword at their throats.

True heroes are those who know how to fight the good fight. It is not about shedding blood or skilled in arms.
