I want to give my comment on Cuban musicians coming to the U.S. Alot of them have come here like Orquesta Aragon, Isaac Delgado(who now stayed), and others. I personally saw Los Van Van here in Miami. Its just not announced so much. The U.S. allows everyone to come here so I think that comment is untrue. Now as far as Cuban exile musicians, they are not allowed in Cuba like Willy Chirino nor is his music is allowed to be played in Cuba. Celia Cruz was never allowed to sing in Cuba either.
The concerts you refer to all took place before the unofficial "concert ban" post 9/11. Check the concert dates.
Cuban musicians residing in Cuba are routinely denied visas. Musicians who are European residents are now being granted visas (for a while they were also denied) and Cubans who have European citizenship are also allowed to travel to the US. That is how Maraca was able to go to the US in 2006, but he had to travel without his usual band. I don't know how Issac got one.
orquesta reve like los van van have an icredible swing. they are the real thing. they need to make the rounds of the new york club seen. they most be marketed correctly. there are no bands or groups that compare to them here in the us. palante reve!
Well if it were not impossible for Cuban bands to play in the US I'm sure they would be playing there as often as they can. Thanks to US policy all Cuban musicians (i.e. musicains living in Cuba) are automatically denied visas. Hopefully that policy will change soon.
what about bands from here like Willy Chirino and Celia Cruz when she was alive. Cuba doesn't allow for cuban exiles(not communist)to go there either. And also to add to this comment I saw Los Van Van in Miami in 1997 and other Cuban musicians come here all the time.
I don't know for sure what has happened with Willy and Celia. That was before I was interested in Cuban music but 2 wrongs don't make a right.
Cubans are unfortunately between a rock and a hard place. Cuba won't let defectors return for 5 years (or so I'm told), the US won't let Cubans in the US go to Cuba more than once every 3 years. Hard on families who are stuck in the middle.
It is not all because of Castro. US, encouraged by some Cubans in Miami try very hard to block them to come. It is shame a free speach country like US actually blocks musician to come. What are we afraid of?
que rico suena la reve!!! antes ahora y afuturo!

And all this is becuase of one man named "Fidel Castro." Look at all he's done, he's the devil on earth.

Hopefully we will see a brighter future for Cubans soon.
