When I was young hockey players wore no helmets or pads and there were fewer injuries because players respected each othere and the hits wouldn't be a brutal. This is similar to rugby and American football, because rugby players don't were protection they respect their fellow players and don't hit as hard as the American football players do. I think the Americans need to get rid of the protection to reduce injuries.

@felixchump There are many things where football (soccer) is art. Being able to control, pass, shoot, dribble the ball with you chin up and position yourself in the right place at the right time without the ball is an art itself!! (like basketball). A combination of that and teamwork can be very attractive to watch (probably from a football fan's point of view), very similar to how a clock functions.

Cheerleading is a team effort, if your teammates drop you, through no fault of your own, you will get hurt. Cheerleading is basically gymnastics, so if gymnastics is a sport so is cheerleading.

In gridiron you want to stop the runner cold -- to not give up a single inch more than necessary -- because of the downs for distance system and the uncontested breakdown.
