  • May I use the words on a riot grrrl poster? <3

  • You are absolutely fantastic...

  • This is very, very true. Once you are a survivor of any kind of sexual abuse you become wary of certain things. For me it was men, I know that not all men are predators, but it doesn't stop the fear. Not when two people you trusted dearly hurt you.

  • this made me realize that i only talk to male strangers because i'm afraid women will think i'm hitting on them or objectifying them (i'm a boy). on a separate note, i have had a much older man stop me and repetitively ask for sex. i only found it mildly uncomfortable, but maybe it gets worse after a few times, or maybe i'm just strange. i have trouble understanding subjects like this because neither side likes to recognize any validity in the other's arguments. can someone help with that?

  • I understand where this young woman is coming from. However, looking down possiby shows that she feels weak. She would give the impression of a less vulnerable person if she held her head high, did not smile and looked straight ahead with her posture showing that she was able to take care of herself. Just looking as if she is a no nonsense person.

I like this young lady. She is a strong person actually.

  • it's funny how this woman believe that violence is only aim at woman. First of all, not all men are abuser or rapist, this believe that all men are out to get her, she is losing it. Any woman with brain in there head no is a bad ideal to walk the night alone. Even men are not comfortable walking the streets alone in fear of being mug or getting shot.

  • Listen guys. If you're insulted by the thought that a woman would be fearful of a man, then how about fighting to stop rape and assault rather than calling women who voice this sort of thing "ugly feminists."

  • AMEN.

  • Dude, where's Dan Le Sac when you need him?

  • Thank you so much for making this. Most men don't realize how often and how consciously we do little things to avoid harassment. I find that the guys who tend not the understand that women get heckled or receive crude gestures are from the suburbs. The worst context they can come up with is walking to their car at night.

  • You should smile more.

Just joking, good video and this is coming from a guy.

  • Thankfully majority of the women on the streets of every just nation can look & smile at strangers... man, woman, child. Unfortunate are those who are traumatized and miss out on the beautiful side of our world as this sad soul...

Hopefully the evil side of us humans wanes as we continue to evolve and we do not experience what this woman in this video had run into!

  • Fucking awesome! :D

  • You are absolutely brilliant. <3

  • excellent

  • Applause. That was fantastic.

  • I am crying!! thank you so much, because that is exactly the way it is. much luv my dear*)

  • Time for change damnit

  • I love it! Thank you so much for this!

  • This is amazing! You have a very good voice to read this as well. It just fits. Nicely done.

  • People who say she's exaggerating about feeling threatened, or think for some reason that harassment is about good looks or giving a "compliment", I dare you to take the subway in Philadelphia or just walk a few blocks after 9 PM as a woman and tell me you don't feel threatened, tell me something isn't wrong. If you've never experienced this then lucky fucking you, congratulations, but don't tell other people what they have and haven't experienced.

  • Holy shit! That was AWESOME! The best poem I've ever heard!

And you are SO RIGHT! Wish we could talk some more about this, cause sometimes I feel so weird and alone in my thougts about the world, and how women gets treated differently.

Maybe you should put this into a rap song? haha would be kinda cool ;)

    // Swede

  • I fight, fight, and fucking fight! lol best line

  • omg it's just amazing; pretty honest.

  • oh my god, THANK YOU

  • This is very powerful. I think you did an awesome job. You spoke quite fast though, so it was hard for me to keep up. I don't believe you were making any kind of generalizations, and I must say, I love your other videos as well. I'd like to express an opinion though, if I may...

I hate it when women walk with their head down. I feel that it shows a sign of weakness, and also prevents them from seeing any dangers that might be heading their way.

  • i love you. Thank you for saying this.

  • I wish I could write half as well as you do

  • THIS IS FUCKING AMAZING. go you

  • This is one of the most ridiculous and insulting things I've ever seen

  • Comment removed

  • @frobiboi You've sure grasped the point here, mate: unequal gender pay and pervasive female sexual harassment really is ridiculous.

  • Essentially, even though everyone I've ever been mugged by was a man, I don't think it would be fair for me to say that men are all potential muggers. I realize men target women because of their sex, but I was targeted because I'm in a wheelchair. In the same way that a woman who is walking alone or wearing whatever she wants to isn't asking for rape or rude comments, men walking down the street at night aren't trying to threaten you or make you feel unsafe.

  • It is undeniable and wrong that violence and harassment against women is a rampant problem in the world over. However, everyone feels vulnerable walking home, and while not explicit, the poem unfairly addresses men as a collective group. Even if most muggers were of a particular minority, it would be socially destructive and inaccurate to say the group is all a potential threat. I don't think most people think that, but some of the rhetoric makes it difficult for a man to argue in its favor.

  • Reduced me to tears. Moving stuff.

  • This is amazing.

  • This is amazing. Spot on commentary on our fucked up culture. Two thumbs up.

  • @avitalthealien How is this spot on? All women have had bad experiences with chauvinistic pigs which may affect their attitudes to men, some more than others, but the generalisations made in this poem are ludicrous. To suggest that it's dangerous to strike up a conversation with an unknown man...??? I honestly don't know where to begin.

  • @frobiboi Oh I'm sorry you feel that's the message here. I'm commenting on how it isn't acceptable that many of us feel that way - when I say 'when every man's a threat' note that I follow it straight away with 'and every woman on her own is clearly asking for it' - which I obviously don't believe. But they are both views that we in our society are encouraged to believe, and when girls are brought up with both those ideas that is a real problem.

  • @CaketinHT This is far more agreeable, and makes sense given the context. However, the "force of habit to avoid the male glance," line, and admitting you don't know what men are thinking, but implying that some have thought in the past is reason to act a certain way in the future comes off as an uncompromising assumption, even if it wasn't. I personally think it is worth the trouble to differentiate between men who are and aren't capable of saying hello to a passerby on the street.

  • @CaketinHT Shit, accidentally deleted my post. I'm sure you can still read it in your e-mail though, in which I stated that this explanation sheds a more agreeable light on the poem, but that some of the other lines in the poem, however intended, can be perceived as uncompromising, or unfair to men in general. No one should accept these paradigms as adequate, and I'm pretty sure that was the misunderstood point that we all probably agree on.

  • @TheBSG Well sure, men aren't all thinking these things. It def shouldn't be the case that women feel that they can't trust all men because of the actions of some. However, when the majority of sexual assault & rape is carried out by someone the victim knows, and when victims of said violence tend to be disbelieved, especially if it can be claimed they were 'asking for it', it becomes harder to trust anyone, including strangers in the street. Pretty sure we're on the same page with this, though.

  • @CaketinHT What a refreshingly positive youtube discussion that helped clarify our agreements instead of create more gaps between people. Thanks for your lack of defensiveness-I almost didn't post for fear I'd be misunderstood, as well as your thought provoking, insightful poem!

  • @TheBSG Yes indeed - no problem!

  • Made me cry yesterday too, it's a brilliant poem, and so painfully true and close to home for so many people. Thank you, and keep being awesome :)

  • This made me cry yesterday! Thanks for voicing everything I think.

  • @rathami I feel the same way! Really :O Would be nice to talk about it with people who share the same opinions. Maybe there's a way to affect many people in the right direction. :)

    // A swede

  • Nice poem

  • I like it. You're brave to open up this way, especialy on YouTube. Don't mind the nay sayers, Your accent sounds fine.

btw @fortinbrown ... what exactly is a brown fort made out of?

  • @FortinBrown Your comment could have been great if it was even remotely true.

  • @FortinBrown also it's "could have," not "could of" since we're apparently also talking about linguistic correctness...
