Well it does sound like a mix of French and Spanish, but it's not...Catalan comes from Latin just like French and Spanish, and it's just as old as French and Spanish...it's not a "hybrid" language :-)

In fact, catalan and spanish are not of the same language subfamily. Catalan is galloroman like occitan and french and spanish is iberoroman like portuguese. Anyway, catalan has many things of iberoroman and some linguists consider it is a transition language between these two groups.
way there is no more catalan dub of new disney movies like The Princess and the Frog, or recent Tangled?
