  • fsck from util-linux-ng 2.17.2

...had to do a double take there.

  • It boots this nicely AND you encrypted the drive? wow!

  • at 0:30 pls tell me that was ur chair n not the computer xD

  • Remember when ubuntu was used to run on old systems and you used it for that...

  • ... but does it run Minecraft?

  • My laptop also did that text boot screen when I installed the video drivers, but it also does good without the video drivers, execpt that without the drivers I can see the Kubuntu boot screen(Kubuntu 11.04)

  • got also a compaq deskpro... it works nice witth debian ...

  • Does ot run Unity?

  • @jknvv13 I've since installed Debian on this system.

  • LXDE very Fast

  • hello I have an old pc with windows Me on it. I have 20gb hard disk (one drive with 4gb and the other one with 16gb) I also have around 300mb RAM and a pentium II. Do you think ubuntu 10.10 will work ?

  • @1996BRECHT Pentium II? I don't think so. This computer hardly ran Ubuntu!

  • @ipeters61 9.04 kind of worked on mine...but I wouldn't expect updating it from that

  • @ipeters61 I think i gonna try it, because I have nothing to lose so ...

i let you know if it work

btw sorry for my bad english but I'm from belgium so ...

  • @1996BRECHT Your English isn't too bad, just a few minor tense issues, but those screw everybody up.. It's better than my Spanish!

  • @1996BRECHT Hey, just a suggestion -- If Ubuntu doesn't work on your pent II, try xubuntu.. It's basically ubuntu, but with a much lighter-weight desktop.. I have successfully put it on a pent II before. Just keep in mind that the whole linux operating system, in some form or another, can run on basically anything.. Even old linksys wireless routers can run a type of linux os, that fits in 2MB flash chip! So, you can defiantly breath some sort of life into older pc's with linux.

  • @mktutt111 thanks for the suggestion !!

  • @mktutt111 Well, XFCE has been getting fatter recently. It doesn't seem to work as well as it used to (I tested it on that system before, back with Xubuntu 7.10 and more recently with Xubuntu 9.04).

  • @ipeters61 If you have a slow pc. Just try Lubuntu. It's just faster and lighter

  • @mktutt111 @1996BRECHT LXDE is lighter weight than Xubuntu

  • @philipkimbrell90 Thanks for reminding me about LXDE, because I had read some good things about LXDE but had not checked it out. My suggestion of Xubuntu to 1996BRECHT was only given based on my positive experience with that os on an older slower system.. I'm sorry if I seemed to imply that it would be the only system, or even best system for an older machine. I'm excited to hear about and try all of these various os's and have no doubt there are several very good ones for older machines.

  • @mktutt111 Your welcome, and also Puppy linux and Damnsmall linux a try asweell

  • @ipeters61 my comp is a 6 year old HP with 256mb of RAM running Windows XP that I got to duel-boot with Ubuntu and Windows XP. I still use my Belkin 805.11g USB Wireless Adaptor and it took me a few reboots but I got it to work. I used a guide to increase web speed and now I almost prefer Linux over Windows XP except for the issue of Steam on Playonlinux REFUSES to work with me so I would lose my Team Fortress 2 and Portal with Portal 2 on Preorder.

  • @1996BRECHT YOU CAN RUN linux mint LXDE version it is light weight and will run FAST on your system. Go to linux mint's website and download then burn the LXDE version. Linux mint is based on ubuntu. SAme software / repo / but comes with everything out the box. Flash / java / better drivers / codecs for media.. etc

  • @1996BRECHT Try using Lubuntu

  • @1996BRECHT Try out Crunchbang 10 Statler, its based on Debian but its extremely lightweight, more lightweight than Xfce

  • @91jmda I actually just installed Crunchbang on this system the other day. It seems to work just as well as Lubuntu, to be honest.

However, I got wireless headphones for Christmas, and I use this system as a "server" for my music on it.

  • @1996BRECHT yes

  • @ipeters61 ok fine sorry

  • I guess that camera is 10 year old too

  • @tomasmiguelmateus Don't diss the camera. It's 4 years old.

  • Now we're talkin'

  • WOW!

  • What a nerd. Now install a better cheap nvidia Vcard and see how slow it run with compiz. :)

  • @jcer93705 I actually am installing it on another box (Pentium III 1 GHz, 384 MB RAM, 20 GB HD) with an NVidia GeForce 4 MX440....let's see how this works out. :P

  • @ipeters61

OH MAN i had that video card once long ago. Once creative lab soundcard manufacture had a blaster pc builtin blaster live came with remote and awesome case but i had that video card and i ran it in redhat linux operating system, awesome card in that time. Now damn be funny if the os support that video card LOL and running compiz hahahaha. You might can get away. I'm subscribing.

  • @jcer93705 I actually tried setting it up, but even with the alternative drivers installed, Compiz refuses to start up.
