  • My mum used to sing this crazy song to us as children and we thought she'd made it up! Then it played on the radio one day and she was dancing to it in the kitchen. Weird bloody song!

  • So excited to hear this again! God bless the 70's! Lol

  • @xORIGAMIxARTSTx it was the 60s not the seventies :)

  • we had a teacher in primary school, who brought this record in, and we had to learn all the words! Still love it to this day!

  • absoloute class !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Look at the guy who looks like Woody Allen...lol

  • @sofifi123 lol, me too. I came on here to show my daughter how awful it is. Still, no 1 on her bday is 'The Way To Amarillo' (2005 re-release!)

  • @sofifi123 no 1 when my dad was born :D

  • yes Sophy, that's because he's parodying an Elvis-sounding American preacher

  • Is it just me that thinks this when one of them first says up to heaven on their own, it sounds like he is saying ' Up to hayven '

  • They really screwed up the words here, or were told to miss bits out.

  • Funny how they messed the lyrics up but carried on regardless, true pros lol

  • thats my childhood..you can exchange the characters with your own

  • HAHAHA

  • isn't mike originally called peter and paul, jimmy?

  • @availlio

LOL! You are correct, sir! Seasons Greetings to you.

  • They managed to muck of most of the lines.

    Smooth.

  • You've got McCartney's brother who looks nothing like him, Arthur Scargill and Woody Allen in the same group. That's some combo.

  • ...and that looks like Arthur Scargill in the middle!

  • @Glamagal20091 Aye right enough lol he looks like the guy in Racey too that band that did "Some Girls" lol.

  • I see this was no. 1 in the charts around this time 43 years ago. Looking at the rest of the Top 40 then, I remember them all. God, am I that old?

  • love it

  • OMG my friend in school looks like Mike McCartney!!

  • Where can i get this..."Medicinal Compound"?

  • The lyrics are changed.

  • Mum had an LP with this on it....she played it all the time! I mean ALL THE TIME!

    :)

  • My pony is called Lilly The Pink lol x

  • I have a "songs of the 60's" and this song is on it. I fell in love with it... It's catchy, it's funny and I LOVE the Beatles, and I had no idea Mike was in this (I knew he was in a band; but I didn't know it was this one....) Funny how things connect :)

  • the wonderful poet roger mcgough is shaking his scouse booty there as well ! great stuff

  • @TheOmnibot full brother, he changed his name to mcgear to distance himself from mccartney, fact

  • @TheOmnibot Are you sure he is a half brother? and to his credit all through the Beatle years when he could have capitalized on it, he was called Mike Mcgeer.

  • top quality!! have always loved this song.

  • Guy in the middle. Went on to become the Phantom Flan Flinger.

  • Great comb over ...........

  • whats this song about

  • @JamesHaycraft2 nothing important, you know....

  • gimps

  • i,m suprised Mike Mcgear did,nt put the fact that he is Paul McCartneys brother in the lyrics, one of the best combovers in pop history on john gorman, by the way ------ Weeeeeee,ll drink a drink a drink to Denis the king the king the king he,s the leader of our football team.

  • Mr Gorman, i sing the song the bucket of water song!! legend!!

  • Is..one of the guy's..P McCartney's Brother ?

  • whats medicinal compound? or whatever he's on about xD

  • @coolbluemidnite

Patent medicine, specifically from one Lydia Pinkham.

  • @Skywatcher68 Ah thank you (:

  • 1:53 is he doing his best Texas impersonation or somthing?

  • absolute quality..dont make em like this anymore!

  • We listened to this in a lecture on Propaganda the other day. Don`t ask lol.

  • The wrong words rendition is quite famous; there was some kerfuffle involving TOTP, and as payback they deliberately switched lyrics around.

  • *cheers*

Having a wee 'medicinal' drink the now....

    XD

  • OMG at 1:22 has the singer on the left written the words on his hands??!

    That's terrible!

  • @EmSmith74 It was on purpose! Just like the bending down is not in time with each other.....cracking record!

  • hahah the bit about heaven sounds like forrest gumps voice...mey-dicanel coumpound!

  • genius

  • i sung this song in the assembly XD

  • @millie8451 I remember this song being sung in assembly at Ham Dingle primary school!

  • Brilliant ! Why all the sarcastic comments ? These guys said everything that needed to be said then.

  • Yes Paul McCartney's brother (Mike McGear) is on the left. The one on the right is the poet Roger McGough, and I think the other one is John Gorman maybe better remembered on TISWAS.

  • Isn't one of them Paul McCartney's brother?

  • @sunlinesusie I think the left one is his brother

  • @sunlinesusie Yes, the guy on the left is Mike (McGear) McCartney.

  • @sunlinesusie Yep, the one on the left is Mike McGear. (aka Mike McCartney, Paul's younger brother.)

  • @sunlinesusie Did you found out via XFM?

  • @sunlinesusie Yes, Mike McGear. I'm pretty sure he's the one on the left.

  • @sunlinesusie his cousin, the one in the middle

  • @sunlinesusie Yes, the one on the left is Michael McCartney who called himself Mike McGear.

  • @sunlinesusie the reason you knew that was because Ricky gervais said this on Xfm is it? because that's why i do lol

  • @sunlinesusie Yes, Michael Mc Cartney, AKA Mike Mc Gear

  • The one on the left reminds me of Guy Martin with slightly smaller lamb chops

  • FRED DINEAGE lol

  • If one of these blokes left then a suitable replacement (looks wise ) may have been British middle distance runner Ray Smedley !

  • Lily the pink 5 stars!!!!!!!!

  • wtf

  • The guy on the right came 4th in the 1980 Eric Morecambe look-a-like contest!

  • Check out Paul McCartneys brother !

  • On the field, its almost unreal,

Some of the thing that Eric does for us,

    Superb overhead kicks,

    Remarkable backflicks,

I'm sure the guy just takes the piss....

We'll drink a drink a drink to Eric the king, the king, the king,

He's the leader of our football,

He's the greatest French Footballer, that the world has ever seen!

  • after this track went platinum they signed a multi-million dollar deal with geffen took to class a's and fast women and now don't speak to each other in their respective country piles. just sayin

  • My dad talked about this to me...

  • love it :)

  • I had to be brought up on some really really cheesy music

  • loved this song as a child, still makes me laugh !!!

  • Appalling. Yet brilliant.

  • looks like paul mccartney got all the talent

  • We used to sing this in our boy scout troop meetings. Many, many verses to this folk song.

  • Why this came into my head I dont know. I sang it at school to. My kids looked at me like i was mad just now. Anyway, the first guy does say the wrong words..and efficacious is in the original song.

  • I don't recall having heard the word "efficacious" used in a song before, if i have spelt the word wrong please do not feel obliged to point it out to me!

  • Now THAT made me feel old!.... and I remembered the words no less!.... fun to see and hear it again ... Thanks for uploading it

  • lol i love it they cant even dance in time with each other lol

  • Yikes, its Paul Mccartneys brother.

  • That good old fashioned Hammond Organ really keeps the beat going

  • This may not be one of the best songs ever, but we were made to sing it at my primary school, and it brings back some lovely memories.

  • It's like a Britain's Got Talent audition.

  • Ok JLS ... Your Turn.

  • As some people noticed the ending to the verses are mixed up. Also everybody forgot about the opening verse it goes like this: "Here's a story, a little bit gory. A little bit happy, a little bit sad. About Ms. Pinkham's medicinal compound. And how it drove her to the bed.

  • after reading some of the comments a bit dissappointed withsomepeople the bobbing is ment to be miss timed and the whole thing is ment to have an air of amaturness about it as this is comic song aswasvery popular at the time with the like of billy connely etc realsing comic songs at the time

  • Isn't the one on the far left with the awful sideburns, Paul McCartney's brother ... classic, corney, but fun!!! I believe they were number 1 for about eight weeks!!!

  • Verses are all askew Verse one Mr Frears was learning how to fly...Johnny Hammer with the stammer was seen but seldom heard..meanwhile it was guy who wouldn't eat..that ended up being pushed around on wheels..it's all mixed up..

    Danny

  • "I only scored once... and it was 'cause I was stung by a bee."

  • Is it just me or are they singing the wrong words?

  • @ThePrinceDhani I hope so, that would indicate that they performed drunk!

    How fitting :)

  • @ThePrinceDhani they missed out brother tony was very boney...

  • @ThePrinceDhani jennifer eckles had terrible freckles, and the boys all called her names!!!

  • Love this hahaha :L

  • maadiciaal cowmpawnd lol

  • Although McCartney's brother, he looks quite like Ringo.

  • is that Arfur Scargill in the middle lol!

  • I have enjoyed James Last's version of this song for over the years and now I found the original artists Scaffold are singing. I understood this song became a huge hit over the Europe but unfortunately totally flopped here in Japan. So the Japanese Odeon/Toshiba release of this single is extremely rare.

  • Thirty years since I last heard this song, but weirdly I never forgot it. How sweet to stumble upon it after all this time.

  • a disgrace

  • i think "The Scaffold" are a brilliant comedy band and they made some good songs. CARL

  • nice hair ;)

  • I hate it when these no-talent groups rely only on their striking good looks to become famous.

  • i used to see them in the seven stars on the ford estate in birkenhead, gr8 band !

  • This used to be on my children's party CD....now i wonder why? Who would put this on a children's CD?? lool

    Still love it though aha

  • Renowned poet Roger McGough has a massive spam

  • Possibly the first thing my mind recorded as a three year old in 1967, when I think of my earliest conscious memory of music at least, for some reason it's this record and that bald bloke in the middle.

  • Hahaha I got the horn watching that

  • a drum and bas remix hould happen now.. aha what a song

  • Great comb over..........

  • How did I get here again? - Oh yeah ... Thumbs up if it's from John Barrowman's book "Anything Goes" and you read his dare on the bottom page :P

  • my 3 year old daughter knows nearly all the words to this lol she says its her song cause shes called lillie lol

  • We had to sing this in school 35 years ago. I never knew it was a real song. I thought the teacher made it up!

  • this is a real party song!!

  • which of these is McCartney's brother?

  • @DontDropThatDime The one at the left... Doesn't he look like his brother?♪

    Hey Mike!! ♪

  • @Virpatrick no not at all..........

  • Why do people listen to this and then leave a BAD comment? I sang this in Turkey on my guitar a few weeks ago, went down a storm!!! Strange....the words are all wrong fellahs, ha ha. Maybe on purpose but can't think why

  • @RevolverAnthology they kept changing it. it was often being rewritten for fun.

  • 0:15

They all strangely look like the band Reuben also!

  • I like the song, but I still want to know why this was a #1... In almost every other land except in the UK, "Love Child" by the Supremes was the #1 hit...

  • these arent the proper words
