Very true, even though my favorite player Elena Dementieva has been playing with a lot more spin lately. She only hits extremely flat when she's going for the winner. Hingis hit with more spin too.
I disagree that she doesn't put a lot of spin on her shots. She's actually got a pretty decent amount of topspin. She's definitely flattened out the shot in the last couple years, but she does hit with some spin.

Uh no! Her wilson racquet had a completely different frame shape than the yonex. Yonexes are more squared at the top

It looks like a semi-western to me. She applies a decent amount of topspin on her forehand, and that's tougher to do with an eastern.
