Kelsey Grammer who was directing this episode said that he wanted a full shot from Niles and not something faked with cuts or special effects, so he had to try again and again until he succeeded. It's rather obvious when you see that you see the whole shot, from Niles hands to the hoop.
@kodreaming Yup, if you want you can check a more "official" source than my word : tv.com/shows/frasier/hooping-cranes-25471/ in "Notes".
26 tries for one shot doesn't seem like it's very lucky though... When I play around or warming up before a friendly match with friends/co-worker, I'll usually sink one every 5 or 6 shots from the middle of the court when there is nothing to bother you (no defenders). And I am not particlarly good either.
I love this epi-as I do all Frasier eps- but I always wished that Frasier just let Niles have his moment...he is so petty sometimes...most times actually.
Curious how Frasier and Niles toss around the words, "luck, accident," and "chance" in this episode, when in all other episodes they dogmatically reiterate that any psychiatrist worth his salt does not believe such things exist. To be consistent, Frasier would have had to admit that Niles made the shot because he focused and accurately aimed it into the basked.
Here's my question. What would Daphne think if she was there in person watching Niles sink the basket and getting surrounded by all those cheerleaders?
Honestly, the first time I watched Frasier I thought it was a 3rd Rock From The Sun rip-off and that Frasier and Niles were really aliens trying to figure out humanity. They are so out of touch with the "common" folk xD
@EnigmaDrath The show was more so making fun of the people that Americans so loving call "Elite". I think in America we all have our social groups we feel comfortable with. I doubt you see too many heavy metal common Americans at a hip hop concert with other common Americans. haha I think that is what make our country so amazing in my opinion. There is a group for everyone . From elite ivy league to the garage band and punk rock type to the hip hop baggy jean artist . Only in America
Oh, definitely. The show's humour is mainly derived from Frasier and Niles' characters (though the others are also hilarious). But I don't think that they were actually members of the elite class. At least, they weren't as elite as they'd like to be: they were always trying to climb higher up the ladder, holding dinner parties (which usually fail) and such. The brothers were snobs trying to impress snobbier snobs, and that's what made them so likeable ... somehow XD
@EnigmaDrath I totally agree. I think all of us have either met or know of people like Frasier and Niles. haha I knew this guy that always use to go to these charity events not for charity but to meet the snobs that go there. He would throw these names around of people I had no idea who they where and really didn't care but he was determine to be their friend. Frasier has the be the best written show in American TV history in my opinion.
I did one of these half time things when i was a kid. However since i was not an adult they would not give me the car. I ended up with $125.00 and free tickets to the next game.
No matter how old we get we'll always have that immature childish moment @ 06:42 ( my sis is 27 or 28 i lost count & ... she still acts like frasier in tht second/min ) xD
Niles' face at about 18:30 after he says, "i want the kids to know it's about the playoffs, not the payoffs," is priceless! Hahaha!
