is that all why... or there were other issues? In the movie, Liu Kang is supposdly a decendent of Kong Lao. If kung lao died , how is it Liu kang is born?

The ridiculous cliffhanger ending was intended to secure enough views to get a chance at renewal, but it didn't work and it ended up just being depressing. Of course, we can assume that SOMEHOW they got out of those dire straits and Kung Lao was eventually killed by Goro.

well in conquest, shang was always confident and quan chi proved that shang had many abilities than quan chi wishes he could have. and in armegeddon shangs shape shift ability is what helped him elimiate quan chi.

@DinoGuts the medalion means nothing in the series, in the game, id say shang is more powerful, since he can turn into ANYONE and have access to ALL of their abilities. me and my friends each picked a character from any game or show and had a poll online to see who would win. my character was shang tsung because he could turn into anyone haha. i guess people thought goku from dbz could overcome shang masqurading as goku also.
@DinoGuts hm...and during gameplay...did the medalion do anything to up quan chis power? no....in the story line it makes him overcome shinnok in mk4 and i suppose thats why he overcame shang tsung to cause shang tsung would have owned quan chi one on one in a fight.
I didn't like the fact that they integrated so many gymnast moves into the choreography of this fight. It should have been more raw and brutal like the Scorpion and Johnny Cage fight from the first film.
I don't know why they made conquest. The character were just made a lot weaker in that series. Oh right regular Mortal Kombat has too much violence and too much for human minds.
