  • If you noticed, we used Kikoman soy sauce. I have had readings from .02 as high as .26. Everyone is different.

  • @DGDAttorney what about etg testing while on probation for dui? in urine testing. is that possible? or will they only test for alcohol and not its metabolites? i live in alabama

  • Soy Sauce DOES have alcohol in it as a preservative... that is why you only see kikkoman soy sauce in restaurants b/c they do not have alcohol in them. But traditional soy sauce have up to 5% alcohol!

  • @DGDAttorney I dont need to be a lawyer to point out the flaws in this 'experiment'. Im not commenting on the machine, or other things that you say give readings, so keep on topic. Im commenting on this video, and the test you showed which is far removed from reality yet you use it to back up your point. I think you need real world examples before you start suggesting 'a lot of innocent people will get hurt'.

  • You don't get the real message. The machine is designed to only read alcohol, or so it is claimed. Therefore, it should never read any other substance as alcohol, whether it be soy sauce or white bread or raspberry ice tea, which I have also gotten readings on. Not to mention the average person has a coefficient ratio of 2100:1, but what about the people with 2950:1 or the people with 800:1. 800:1 would mean that a person reading on the machine .13 would be .055, but they hide the code.

  • @newgtguy My point is he's claiming the machine has a problem, but he's using it in a completely hypothetical way. Either show it as a real world example, or this is just propoganda.

  • @Stueee1986: What do you do? What is your expertise in this area? What training have you had? Another member of MADD or just stupid or both? List your credentials, such as, toxicologist, (FAS), breath test training, BS in what science, and occupation. Isn't it great that you can hide cowardly, and then make accusations without knowledge? Why don't you do a video? Better yet get stopped, take the PAS test and field sobriety test you are not required to take in CA and go to jail then cry

  • Would have been nice to see what a realistic test showed, as opposed to going straight from soy sauce filed mouth to the test, with barely a breath between. I doubt it would register had you eaten then driven, due to the time lag.

  • @Stueee1986 You clearly don't understand the concept of "Reasonable Doubt."

  • Google it for yourself... Soy Sauce contains alcohol! In fact Kikkoman contains 1.7% alcohol which comes from the fermentation process of the soy beans. The reason it's not listed in their ingredients is to avoid "spirit duty" (tax). As required by Title 17 CCR and Intoximeters, Alco-Sensor user manual, drink the sauce, wait 15 minutes and then perform the test... You'll get .000. Can you say "mouth alcohol"?

  • Don, I just saw this video. What happened to the 15 minute waiting observation period? What happened to the second test? You should be ashamed of yourself. - Norm

  • @thenewwb Norm, the purpose of this test was to show that other substances register as alcohol. In fact, when I took the coarse I ate a half a piece of white bread and blew into the machine and got an alcohol reading. If this the Norm I think it is and I'm not sure because you didn't put in a last name you had me eat ha;f a piece of white bread in front of the class, blow into the machine and it registered as if I had had alcohol. Other substances register as alcohol.

  • @DGDAttorney Too true, I live in a place where you get breathalyzer test every night. I was munching on my rice and soysauce when security came in to give the test. I blew a .022. I was told to rinse out my mouth and wait 15 minutes to blow again, which I did with a result of .001-.000.

    Glad you have this up!

  • Only 1 thing to correct here that soy sauce ( and many other soy sauce's) have 1-3% alcohol that comes from the brewing process ( koji ) yeast is used in the process thats why some brands like kikkoman, yamasa etc may have a strong smell but some fake chinese ones dont have any strong smell.

  • Just remember people, stand up for your rights, let them take your license , you only need a drivers license when you get stopped by the police......

  • @raw420x yep, you wont need it in jail when youre pulled over the second time.

    his country from its government."

I lost my class A for a year after I refused both Breath and FST based on the Malfeasance of two CHP officers. When my attorney and I requested both video's from both CHP vehicles both video's were lost, damaged, or stolen.

My case was thrown out of court. I did plea out to a traffic offense non alcohol related.

Absent a court conviction and CHP videos the DMV upheld my suspension.

  • "But Officer, I only had Chinese food..."

What is this the "soy sauce" defense?!

  • this is bogus. you didnt show her spitting it out or if she drank alcohol after the first test. whatever. good for you, i'm sure you will get many drunk drivers off so they can continue to kill. you make me so sick.

  • This is clearly why breath testing is BAD for law abiding citizens.

Blood testing is the "Gold Standard" insist upon it if accused.

  • Only an A-hole cop would take you in, how can you confuse the smell of Soy Sauce with the smell of alcohol? even if the faulty breathalyzer does give a positive reading, a cop should be able to tell if impaired, if your stumbling onto the road, and can't perform the sobriety test, you been drinking alcohol! Last year a faulty breathalyzer got Mickey Rourke arrested for DUI, seems these machines don't work properly. I mean, give me a break man! Somebody needs to give cops something to do!!!

  • do you know how many billions of dollars cops make off of DUI cases? and a looooooooooot of people don't fight them. and the cops rely on them not fighting to keep raking in the dough.

  • White Bread?!

So I can get a DUI for going to Subway?!
