The sheer fact that the robot can recognize individual pieces and accurately move them is amazing. It is a door opener for thousands of possibilities. This guy seems a lot cooler than ASIMO
At the moment does the chess board hardware sense the piece positions and report them to the robot or compute cluster? It would seem a large task just to visually recognize this directly.
If it can remember faces and store data on people based on that, can it store data based on their style of chess play? or perhaps statistical data on what moves they're likely to perform given certain situations? or perhaps even learn from the people it plays and use what it learns against others?
Also, does it precisely calculate its movements? or does it use fuzzy logic. Because of how slow it moves, I'm guessing precise. or is the speed limited by the motors?
This is pretty cool. Was the robot thinking for it self in real time, or was it "told" to do a set of commands before hand? Also if the guy playing him cheated, would the robot know and stop playing or something, or would he just keep on playing.
thats stupid, a robot getting u a beer is 10x cooler. hell do i need a robot playing chess for? if it can vacuum and make me a porkchop sandwich, now were talkin.
The next famous humanoid robot ever! Congrats on your hard worked robot. It might as well go in the ranks just as ASIMO. Hope your experiment is succesful later on in the years.

Congratulations to you at Pal Robotics for your excellent humanoid. The days of civilian service robots are fast approaching. These 'friendly droids' will be our helpers and advisors, and we will be their clients, as in any other trusted client/consultant relationship. And like the automobile industry, a huge, massive, infrastructure of high paying technical jobs and support jobs will arise from the age of the humanoids!

Does REEM recognize if its opponent makes an illegal move? If so, does it say "I'm afraid you can't do that, Dave"? Because it totally should.

Asimo is so fucking old school, it's like comparing steam engines to space shuttle's.

Fantastic Humanoid robot! The sooner these robots are more advanced, the sooner Earth will be different.
REEM-A is possibly 2nd behind ASIMO as an advanced humanoid. This must of took years and months to accomplish REEM-A.

Does it have the intelligence to follow the rules and create a tactical strategy for winning?

Yes, it uses the chess-Engine "Hydra", a special software that run a cluster of computers
