No need to get mad, Frazier lost because he had health problems and was declining out of his prime faster than Ali, and Foreman was a heavy hitter but he wasn't an inside fighter so foreman doesn't compare to Tyson.
I know Ali is the greatest, but look at both the boxer's fighting styles. Ali got knocked out by frazier(inside fighter), while Tyson overcame the reach disadvantage in many of his fights, Tyson can beat a outside fighter. Stamina isn't an issue for both of them because both can go the distance.

Well, to be honest, it would depend on how successful Tyson was at knocking Ali down. Tyson showed some nice moves against TNT Tubbs in Japan.
Frazier's performance to me is a template of how successful Tyson would've been at getting in. Ali suprisingly enough didn't seem to get it that throwing hooks against shorter fighters that are TAUGHT to be evasive will not suffice.

Truth is we will never know. But, if it happened, say with each boxer in their prime, I would give it to Ali. Ali was taller, I'd say quicker than Tyson , and had the ability to take a punch. . Ali demonstrated how quick he was on his feet, and if he was knocked down how quick he could respond, get back up again and keep on fighting. Example Frasier. So Mike may have got in some licks but I think Ali would of clocked him eventually.

Ali was really in his prime when he was forced out of the ring from 67-70, still came back, though not as quick, to beat Foreman and still be champ 8 years later. When the going got tough, Tyson had to resort to ear biting, Ali used his superior will, skill, brain, survival instinct, guts. Ali was a better all round boxer, who could take the best shots of big hitters.
I think Tyson's prime was between 19 and 21, after that he started to go downer and downer. Ali kept his prime for a several years more (more or less between 20 and 26 when he was forced to get out). Both in primes, Ali would beat Tyson, there's no doubt of that. Ali is The Greatest of all times, and he will always be, in his pime it was impossible to beat him.

But one interesting thing is that the computer program made over an 18 month period in the 70's created "Fantasy Fights" and in the end result, the top two were Dempsey and Marciano, Marciano would have supposedly taken Dempsey down in the 12th round or something like that. So even with the best logistics and minds of the boxing world, it came so close to being nearly impossible to tell. I think computer error came into play!

I don't necessarily think it was simply because Ali couldn't hit hard, but very much paced himself and used cerebral boxing. Ali wasn't a brute force fighter like Dempsey, Marciano,Tyson, there are different styles. In fact, many of the old time boxers were used to fighting these protracted fights, 15,20,30 + rounds, they couldn't afford to give it all up at once. Ali knew how HE fought best.

When you look back at fighters like John L Sullivan, fighting, 40, 50 round fights..Hell there have been fights that have gone to 150, even 212 rounds, thats a whole different style of fighting, each has his own and times change.

Well, to be honest, it would depend on how successful Tyson was at knocking Ali down. Tyson showed some nice moves against TNT Tubbs in Japan.
Frazier's performance to me is a template of how successful Tyson would've been at getting in. Ali suprisingly enough didn't seem to get it that throwing hooks against shorter fighters that are TAUGHT to be evasive will not suffice.
What's so interesting about this matchup is that there's really no clear answer !

Think about it. Tyson was just as strong as George Foreman; and Ali beat Foreman. The difference is, Tyson was slightly faster than foreman. If you factor that in, It would probably come down to the scorecards, and Ali would out score him.

Truth is we will never know. But, if it happened, say with each boxer in their prime, I would give it to Ali. Ali was taller, I'd say quicker than Tyson , and had the ability to take a punch. . Ali demonstrated how quick he was on his feet, and if he was knocked down how quick he could respond, get back up again and keep on fighting. Example Frasier. So Mike may have got in some licks but I think Ali would of clocked him eventually.

Tyson was only 23 when Douglas beat him. For Tyson's supporters his prime was simply when he hadn't lost! It's ridiculous. Ali was really in his prime when he was forced out of the ring from 67-70, still came back, though not as quick, to beat Foreman and still be champ 8 years later. When the going got tough, Tyson had to resort to ear biting, Ali used his superior will, skill, brain, survival instinct, guts. Ali was a better all round boxer, who could take the best shots of big hitters.

@TheLeithBoy On that we agree. Tyson was fast and powerful. I greatly respect Mike Tyson's abilities. I don't necessarily think it was simply because Ali couldn't hit hard, but very much paced himself and used cerebral boxing. Ali wasn't a brute force fighter like Dempsey, Marciano,Tyson, there are different styles. In fact, many of the old time boxers were used to fighting these protracted fights, 15,20,30 + rounds, they couldn't afford to give it all up at once. Ali knew how HE fought best.

@TheLeithBoy I guess we agree on that, my beef is simply that Ali was not a weak man, very strong, he had a different style than sluggers like Dempsey, Marciano, Tyson, etc. Ali knew how HE fought best and it included many great factors others pale in comparison to. When you look back at fighters like John L Sullivan, fighting, 40, 50 round fights..Hell there have been fights that have gone to 150, even 212 rounds, thats a whole different style of fighting, each has his own and times change.

It would be interesting if a "perfect" computer program could be built to accurately create fantasy fights as was done over an 18 month period with fighters like Dempsey, Marciano, Ali, Jeffries and 14 others as was done in 1970. The result? Marciano vs Dempsey for the title, I believe the computer printout had Dempsey lose by TKO in the 13th round. I call computer error but I love em both.

@TheLeithBoy But of course you wouldnt think about the fact that leverage plays a phenomenal role in strength, a man with near similar biceps with a 82 in reach compared to a man with 71 in reach is going to, on the whole, have far more strength and ability with those arms considering the entire TOTAL of muscle mass that it takes to fill up that extra 11 inches of arms. Not only that but size is not an indicator in many ways because there are different types of muscle fibers. Its not so easy bud

You just see a muscle bound 5'10.5 man with stubby arms and assume he's stronger than the 6'3 man...Strength cant be measured by comparing bench presses either, for all you know Ali knew how to combine every appropriate muscle in tandem just right and Tyson didnt so much, so many factors come into play that its almost impossible to know, I know from fighting how true this is.

Who knows what he could have done beyond that. Of course you'll say Tyson fought over a longer period but I'll say how hard it is to fight so many times in a shorter period. These factors all matter and theres really now way to truly know the junk you're spouting. I never put Tyson down, I think he's amazing too.

@brooklyn560 but thats the thing right there Marciano only went undefeated because he fought nothing but bums and fighters way past their primes in an already weak era, fighting in a weak era doesn't make you great, Marciano would not have been able to survive in Ali's era.....and a prime Tyson would have definatly beaten Marciano even if Tyson also fought bums, BUT the difference is that Tyson killed almost everybody in the first round, something not seen before.
