@TheBoeremag you guys don't know your Combloc weaponry...the picture at 1:16 is me and I am not holding a Dragunov. Back to your basic Soviet designed weapons class boys - pack drill will be at 2100hrs!
@TheBoeremag don't be sorry...it's a Romanian version of the Russian Dragunov. The easiest way to tell is by the "hourglass" pattern on the magazines. It was one of several found near the admin centre we set up in the middle of Chomoio during the OP Miracle raid. A couple of them had the optical sight and mount but the rest had iron sights. Don't feel embarrassed about the mistake - for years I told people it was a Dragunov until an expert on Soviet weapons pointed out exactly what it was.
I had all my family in the army and air force in Rhodesia. most of them died in the fighting. So @brianGriffith1026 take your opinon and go as you can see you are on your own.
Well you can have brian, as for me if the green and white ever need it, they have my rifle...let it never be forgot, that once there was a spot, for one brief shining moment, that was known as Rhodesia.
R,I,P to a once great nation. It's sad that most human rights organizations ignore Mugabe's crimes and murders of the white farmers left in "ZIMBABWE", and throughout south Africa by it's government.
@mazerrackham001 yes, they are PPSH41's captured from ZANLA Forces by RhACR soldiers at Chomoio on Op Miracle Sep/Oct 1979. They were lierally everywhere!
@tprdfh51 I do hope that Zimbabwe becomes Rhodesia again. I'm not a white nationalist or anything, I just think it's a shame that such a prosperous nation collapsed.
deathwarmedup - that makes them terroists in my view, no different in their means and motivation than Al Queda or the Taliban. You better take off those pink glasses son - it's bad for the vision.
deathwarmedup - Rhodesian Front won majority vote of the registered voters even though many disagreed with the path they would take the country,,,just like a democracy! They maintained that majority throughout the war and even put foreward the plebisite in 1978 which set the country on a full majority rule voting basis just as Canada did with Natives in 1960. However you wish to view them - ZANLA/ZIPRA focused mostly on terrorizing the African civvies into submission via terrorism...(con't)
@tprdfh51 - One thing we learned at an early stage of the war was although, F.N. magazine held 20 rounds. If you filled the magazine it was VERY, VERY prone to jamming, to avoid my patrol only had 19 rounds in our mags (as Instructed !) No one, bar none of mine ever had a stoppage !! One thing I have never seen is blokes counting rounds - my guys did - 18 gone- magazine change (19 is in the chamber) Athough superioroly outgunned by the Commies - R.L.I. @naroj10 - Sure brother but I would suppose that like in America - as indeed there are in this cesspit of a country where I am (U.K.) there are very many regional accents, dialects. In Rhodesia - the accent (although 99.99 % the population where hard grafting people) was that of "English public school" - not a help when English born people, like myself who had been through horrors of the "Rhodesian bush war " (see YOU TUBE returning to the U.K. to an unwelcome - even ostracized being!"
@RHODESIA111 Haha i know right, same in the Netherlands every ten minutes you drive a different accent, while the Netherlands is a pretty small country.
I just finished writing a 25 page paper for my college writing class. I used the freedom the teacher gave us in picking a topic to give my fellow students a chance to learn about a forgotten war. I at times got very emotional doing my research when I was able to find unbiased, or Pro-Rhodesia sources. It's shameful knowing that the world left Rhodesia to die, and it's disgusting looking at the photos of that land. Maybe one day when Mugabe is dead and gone the land will be beautiful again.

@tprdfh51 Rhodesia's downfall was not a British mole. Rhodesia failed because it isolated itself behind a racist, fascist ideology that had no place in the civilised world. Democracy was always going to stand up and bite the Rhodies in the ass. How they did not see that one coming is frikkin' beyond me!
@DeathWarmedUp1000 I'll cut you some slack here Death - why don't you tell us all what that "racist - facist ideology that had no place in the civilized" world was? While you are at it, let's have a lesson about "democracy" to. Boy, I can't wait to hear mate!
@tprdfh51 perhaps I was wrong here. Perhaps Smithy actually did embrace universal suffrage. Perhaps Smithy never said "never in a thousand years". Perhaps Smithy and his Rhodesian Front ruled the country under the mandate of the majority. Perhaps they were all "commie terrs" and not freedom fighters. Go figure.
@DeathWarmedUp1000 one crack only; then the thread goes back to being what I said it was: "a tribute to men who participated in Op Miracle Sep/Oct 79." The colony of Rhodesia embranced the right to vote for those who were on the voter roles - Africans who gave up their tribal rights were allowed to vote...just like in Canada where Native Canadians were not allowed to vote unless they gave up their status. Ya, smith said "never in a thousand years" but not in the context you envision...(con't)
@tprdfh51 please tell me you are not serious! The words Ian Douglas Smith and democracy should never be mentioned in the same sentence. " I do not believe in black majority rule, never in a thousand years". How does one take that quote out of context? Like any other despotic dictator, he tried to manipulate the electoral process in his favour. The world looked at him, laughed at his imbecilic behaviour and showed him the door!
@DeathWarmedUp1000 and now Mugabe and ZANU-PF have shown the world the door. The headlines "Mugabe has cancer" have it all wrong - it's Zimbabwe that has had cancer for the past 31 years and it's called Robert Mugabe and ZANU-PF...the only dictator Zimbabwe has known.
When the day comes that Comrade Bob DOES have cancer, or some other hopefully fucking painful terminal disease, I'm going to celebrate. I have a Rhodesian flag on my wall, and the day that cunt dies I'm going to run it up the flagpole. And not at half mast, either.
@tprdfh51 the Rhodesian people, black and white, were, as a whole, honest, hardworking and resourceful people. They were misled by an insane leader, who used the oldest tricks in the book to create fear and division amongst his people. No leader worth his salt actively turns his people against each other. BTW there were no " commie terrs" just a bunch of folk who refused to live in subjugation in the country of their birth.
@DeathWarmedUp1000 Smith did more to foster co-operation amongst Zimbabweans both during and after the war than anything Mugabe or ZANU-PF ever did. Insane, hardly...honest, forthright and steely nerved, yes - true to himself, yes. Ya, those liberation fighters were living in subjugation soo much that they imposed it on their fellow citizens once they gained power. Call them what you will but it sounds like a bunch of Commie Terrorists to me - cheers!
@DeathWarmedUp1000 OK Death enough - you have made your point; you don't like Ian Smith and you love Mugabe...does Uncle Bob know you are using his laptop???
@tprdfh51 so your logic dictates that if you are anti Smith you must be pro Mugabe? How unfortunate! It was exactly this lack of progressive thinking that spelt the end of Rhodesia.
@Vengrence the right to self determination does encapsulates the right to " fail". Democracy is not doing Europe and the US many favours either at the mo.
@vagwenya and guess what? The entire Army still had the very same policy when I served in 79-80 and you know what? Being good soldiers we improvised...and when no one was looking, took pictures for posterity that now we are able to share with the world so that the efforts of a good (and I think unfairly maligned) people will be remembered, Cheers!
As already mentioned, there was a no photos policy but to this day I wish i'd taken photos of what I went through. Not for my gain but simply simply for posterity. Intake 141 - C coy - Kariba (1974 - 75) then back to depot - 4 R.R. - Manicaland. The proudest time in my life was serving with F Coy (extended call up 76) under Major "Buster" Johnson. We lost a lot of guys during that time but when R.L.I. say that you have done a fantastic job - well that is something to be truly proud of.
@RHODESIA111 you have much to be proud of ouen...wish I could have been there with you during your time in the Rhodesian Army camera in hand. Cheers!
Damn, this video is one of the most powerful even if the music ain't exactly Rhodisian specific. Cheers! God Bless Rhodesians, may their country exist again!
@garrett088 thanks garratt - you are right, the music isn't Rhodesian. Corb Lund and the Hurtin' Albertins are good old Canadian boys but the music rings true for me and my memories of the Rhodesian Army. Rhodesia lives on in the hearts and minds of those who lived there through her most difficult times.
@tprdfh51 I think Rhodesia lives on not just in the hearts of people who lived there friend, but those who believe in the principles and ideals she stood for as well. I am a soldier in the US Army and I am too young to know the wonders of your land but had i been born 60 years ago i would have along side you proudly!
@garrett088 Rhodesia embodies the principle of right and wrong. Nowadays we fall prey to the beleif thatwe must adhere to what is popular. The Rhodesian people were right, by all means to defend their nation, even though in the eyes of some in the world the UDI wa seen as unpopular. Right is right no matter who likes it.
@smeggerss right on ouen...S/A contributed much in the way of men and materials to the Bush War, a contribution that should not be forgotten. Tanks for the tanks BTW!
It is sad that many have not learnt the lessons of Rhodesia's sad history. Brave soldiers died on all sides, fighting on behalf of politicians who had nothing but self interests at heart. I respect the bravery of the Rhodesian soldiers.
Hey guys - I will say it one more time. I did not create thuis video to troll for racial or political flame wars. It is a tribute to my fellow soldiers in the Rhodesian Army both black and white...and to all the people of the country who suffered so greivously during the conflict. Please respect my desire to keep this apolitical...or else I will cut off your ability to input comments. Cheers, and please remember the veterans of all wars this Rememberence Day.
and to think a few WEAK fearful British prime ministers let your nation fall and now intend to do the same to us the only act they have done to show courage and dignity was the falklands war although i doubt they have the balls to defend itself anymore since where now run by the minority immigrants and all stupid southern cockney brummy pricks are to blame
@JamesCunnyy James my boy - I warned you guys about the racial flame wars and now you get to be the first user I have blocked for posting nonsense about race on my dime.
@gameking50P so what percentage of the population do you think is disenfranchiesed now - did I just hear, "better a black oppressor than a white one"?
@tprdfh51 if you read what I said then you would see me saying that Rhodesia was much better than Zimbabwe now. What I am saying is that while Ian Smith was better than Mugabe he was wrong in trying to maintain 5% of the population being superior to the other 95%.
@tprdfh51 if you read what I said then you would see me saying that Rhodesia was much better than Zimbabwe now. What I am saying is that while Ian Smith was better than Mugabe he was wrong in trying to maintain 5% of the population being superior to the other 95%.
@MrZingy No black man starved in White Rhodesia. The blacks never held 'democratic' elections to elect tribal chiefs.Certainly they weren't dis-enfranchised,they NEVER had a franchise (vote) before White people came.Africans never had 'democracy',it's FOREIGN (literally) to them.
Things weren't perfect, maybe, but everyone had food.
Now the Bread basket of africa is a starving 3rd World slum.
White man in = Civilised Paradise with food and jobs.
I don't see anyone proposing economic sanctions against China or Russia. One unforgivable mistake the white man made in Africa - unlike America and Australia he didn't wipe the local population out. Hopefully we will do a better job next time around !!
i tip my hate to the fighting spirit of the rhodesians and South Africans and to all the British,Canadian,Australian,New Zealand and American volunteers who came to fight with there Rhodesian and South African brothers when the Government's of commowealth nations and the USA stood idle
Guys - I warn you read my comments about the reasons I posted this video. If any of you get into a flame war about race I will delete your posts and block you from posting again. If you want to argue about racism do it on someone else's dime - not mine.
@tprdfh51 Hey dude - I was amused to see my favorite corporal - the one we called "Tiger" because he was a great big puss! Take care of yourself amigo.
I'm actually Sudanese, but I think the Rhodesians fought for what they believed in and that it would have been nice to have another stable nation on this bloody continent. Mugabe is a terror and should be brought down by SOMEONE.
Can some one help me w/ a little history.... Who were these guys and where are they from and what war did they fight! what were the causes for the war to begin?.... Anyways cool vid, the song is awesome!
@JDBrotz War started in Nov/1965 after Southern Rhodesia declared UDI and broke away from Britain. A long period of UN sanctions, civil war and conflict with surrounding frontline states occurred until the signing of the Lancaster House Accord in late 1979 which then paved the way for Commonwealth supervised elections held in March 1980 leading to the election of Robert Mugabe and ZANU PF. They still hold the reigns of power in the now Zimbabwe.
@tprdfh51----- A nice idea , But I wouldnt hold my breath , The way its going in UK we "white" indigenouse will soon be at the tipping point were we are the minority just like the Rhodesians were.
@stormywindmill that might take a while - the Rhodesians never numbered much more than 250,000 against an indigenous African population of more than 9 million. Don't think the immigrant/British population is any where near the "tipping point" yet.
jack ass politely correct, embargoes. the liberial british press and american
with endless arms coming in from Russia Cuba China and very little coming in from the west. West should have supported. Now look what they have. Hummmmm don't see much of that in the press these days. the last picture says it all.
@rudikrause I FEAR THROUGHOUT THE WEST ARE NOW FEW. WE LOST OUR DIGNITY AND COURAGE AND EVEN IDENTITY. WE HAVE A LEADER IN ITALY: UMBERTO BOSSI, WHO STILL FOUGHT AGAINST THE INVASION OF THIRD WORLDISM, WHIT SOME SUCCESS. BUT I FEAR THAT WE NO LONGER HAVE THE COURAGE OF OUR ANCESTORS.
Great vid Love it !! Truly sorry that the rest of the world watched as Rhodesians struggled to keep their lives and country!! the last picture in this video say's it ALL
As a kid in Texas I didn't know what the Rhodesian war was, but I bought a Soldier of Fortune magazine every chance I got. I remember seeing "Be a man among men - The Rhodesian Army" quite often. It was only many years later I thought about that and started putting it together. Huge respect to all of them now. Great video.
@HegemonyCricket Right beside you in Arkansas, loved to read S.O.F. when I could con my Mom into buying me one. Now I can't get enough of the Selous Scouts history. Wish I had all those old magazines now! Those people were awesome!
Wow, this is just a beautiful video. i was only 11 when Americans were were heading to Rhodesia to stand with the greatest men around. I salute you and know this great country will rise again when the great bush war finally begins.
The next great bush war in Zimbabwe will have to be won at the ballot (not bullet) box ouen. Without the rule of law however, it will be difficult - I think Zimbabweans can do it though.
It is going to take every white African to unite to ever rebuild what has been lost. I believe even the most bitter rivals are starting to understand this, but as a 100% yank I am often full of dreams that realistically can never happen.
It breaks my heart that we Americans and the Brits let our brave cousins fall to communist chaos. And as a fellow Florida cracker, It's looking more and more like our country may go the way of Rhodesia within the next 75 years. Long live the Rhodesians! I never call it Zimbabwe. That is a great album too!
@calensmith1863 then shame on u for still living in the stone age.it will never go back to being called rhodesia so if i wr u id stop all this wishful thinking
Rhodesia, a land locked country had a navy...of sorts. BSAP had a marine arm that patrolled Lake Kariba and the Zambezi and were involved in many clandistine operations (mainly dropping off and picking up canoeists) during the Bush War.

DeathWarmedUp1000 5 months ago
@DeathWarmedUp1000 and now Mugabe and ZANU-PF have shown the world the door. The headlines "Mugabe has cancer" have it all wrong - it's Zimbabwe that has had cancer for the past 31 years and it's called Robert Mugabe and ZANU-PF...the only dictator Zimbabwe has known.
tprdfh51 5 months ago
@tprdfh51
When the day comes that Comrade Bob DOES have cancer, or some other hopefully fucking painful terminal disease, I'm going to celebrate. I have a Rhodesian flag on my wall, and the day that cunt dies I'm going to run it up the flagpole. And not at half mast, either.
voiceoftruth2006 2 months ago 2
@tprdfh51 the Rhodesian people, black and white, were, as a whole, honest, hardworking and resourceful people. They were misled by an insane leader, who used the oldest tricks in the book to create fear and division amongst his people. No leader worth his salt actively turns his people against each other. BTW there were no " commie terrs" just a bunch of folk who refused to live in subjugation in the country of their birth.
DeathWarmedUp1000 5 months ago
@DeathWarmedUp1000 Smith did more to foster co-operation amongst Zimbabweans both during and after the war than anything Mugabe or ZANU-PF ever did. Insane, hardly...honest, forthright and steely nerved, yes - true to himself, yes. Ya, those liberation fighters were living in subjugation soo much that they imposed it on their fellow citizens once they gained power. Call them what you will but it sounds like a bunch of Commie Terrorists to me - cheers!
tprdfh51 5 months ago
@tprdfh51 Smith=Mugabe=Smith=Mugabe. Two brutal dictators who sacrified their people to served only their own twisted ideologies.
DeathWarmedUp1000 5 months ago
@DeathWarmedUp1000 OK Death enough - you have made your point; you don't like Ian Smith and you love Mugabe...does Uncle Bob know you are using his laptop???
tprdfh51 5 months ago
@tprdfh51 so your logic dictates that if you are anti Smith you must be pro Mugabe? How unfortunate! It was exactly this lack of progressive thinking that spelt the end of Rhodesia.
DeathWarmedUp1000 5 months ago
@DeathWarmedUp1000 If I lived in Zimbabwe right now I would be voting for MDC.

@DeathWarmedUp1000 Yes, democracy is certainly working out well for South Africa and Rhodesia.

RhACR had a policy of no photos while I served (75-77)
vagwenya 1 year ago
@vagwenya and guess what? The entire Army still had the very same policy when I served in 79-80 and you know what? Being good soldiers we improvised...and when no one was looking, took pictures for posterity that now we are able to share with the world so that the efforts of a good (and I think unfairly maligned) people will be remembered, Cheers!
tprdfh51 1 year ago
As already mentioned, there was a no photos policy but to this day I wish i'd taken photos of what I went through. Not for my gain but simply simply for posterity. Intake 141 - C coy - Kariba (1974 - 75) then back to depot - 4 R.R. - Manicaland. The proudest time in my life was serving with F Coy (extended call up 76) under Major "Buster" Johnson. We lost a lot of guys during that time but when R.L.I. say that you have done a fantastic job - well that is something to be truly proud of.

garrett088 1 year ago
@garrett088 thanks garratt - you are right, the music isn't Rhodesian. Corb Lund and the Hurtin' Albertins are good old Canadian boys but the music rings true for me and my memories of the Rhodesian Army. Rhodesia lives on in the hearts and minds of those who lived there through her most difficult times.
tprdfh51 1 year ago
@tprdfh51 I think Rhodesia lives on not just in the hearts of people who lived there friend, but those who believe in the principles and ideals she stood for as well. I am a soldier in the US Army and I am too young to know the wonders of your land but had i been born 60 years ago i would have along side you proudly!
StockyAmerican 10 months ago
@garrett088 Rhodesia embodies the principle of right and wrong. Nowadays we fall prey to the beleif thatwe must adhere to what is popular. The Rhodesian people were right, by all means to defend their nation, even though in the eyes of some in the world the UDI wa seen as unpopular. Right is right no matter who likes it.

Im willing to admit that Rhodesia was much better than Zimbabwe is now but a state that disenfranchises 95% of the population is wrong.

@gameking50P so what percentage of the population do you think is disenfranchiesed now - did I just hear, "better a black oppressor than a white one"?
tprdfh51 1 year ago 2
@tprdfh51 if you read what I said then you would see me saying that Rhodesia was much better than Zimbabwe now. What I am saying is that while Ian Smith was better than Mugabe he was wrong in trying to maintain 5% of the population being superior to the other 95%.

@RhodesianBok ...are you seriously saying that Rhodesia was more democratic than Zimbabwe. Pot calling the kettle black I would say!(no pun intended)
MrZingy 1 year ago
@MrZingy No black man starved in White Rhodesia. The blacks never held 'democratic' elections to elect tribal chiefs.Certainly they weren't dis-enfranchised,they NEVER had a franchise (vote) before White people came.Africans never had 'democracy',it's FOREIGN (literally) to them.
Things weren't perfect, maybe, but everyone had food.
Now the Bread basket of africa is a starving 3rd World slum.
White man in = Civilised Paradise with food and jobs.
White man out = Not so good.
zombiekiller117 1 year ago 3
@zombiekiller117 ...democracy was a foreign concept to all nations at one point in their history (its not like native Americans had ballot boxes!).
It would be, and was, a mistake to assume that people's aspirations stopped at having enough food.
Reducing everything to "white" versus "black" was the exact reason the world turned their back on Rhodesia.
It's time to move on-the real world is a wonderful place. I'm sure you will enjoy it if you ever cared to visit!
MrZingy 1 year ago
I don't see anyone proposing economic sanctions against China or Russia. One unforgivable mistake the white man made in Africa - unlike America and Australia he didn't wipe the local population out. Hopefully we will do a better job next time around !!

JDBrotz 1 year ago
@JDBrotz War started in Nov/1965 after Southern Rhodesia declared UDI and broke away from Britain. A long period of UN sanctions, civil war and conflict with surrounding frontline states occurred until the signing of the Lancaster House Accord in late 1979 which then paved the way for Commonwealth supervised elections held in March 1980 leading to the election of Robert Mugabe and ZANU PF. They still hold the reigns of power in the now Zimbabwe.

stormywindmill 1 year ago
@stormywindmill that might take a while - the Rhodesians never numbered much more than 250,000 against an indigenous African population of more than 9 million. Don't think the immigrant/British population is any where near the "tipping point" yet.

The next great bush war in Zimbabwe will have to be won at the ballot (not bullet) box ouen. Without the rule of law however, it will be difficult - I think Zimbabweans can do it though.
tprdfh51 2 years ago
It is going to take every white African to unite to ever rebuild what has been lost. I believe even the most bitter rivals are starting to understand this, but as a 100% yank I am often full of dreams that realistically can never happen.

Rhodesia, a land locked country had a navy...of sorts. BSAP had a marine arm that patrolled Lake Kariba and the Zambezi and were involved in many clandistine operations (mainly dropping off and picking up canoeists) during the Bush War.
