I live just across the Iowa state line, about 20-25 miles from Loon Lake Cemetery. I've been there 4 or 5 times, it's a pretty eerie place. I've done alot of "geneaological" research on the place. Local legend says Mary Jane was beheaded for being a witch, but her obituary claims she died of diptheria. Besides, I doubt there were too many witch hunts going on in Southern Minnesota in the late 1800s. I have a video of my visit to Loon Lake Cemetery if you want to check it out.

Mary Jane was a real person, I've been to her grave several times at Loon Lake, which is a few miles south of where I grew up. The police had to confiscate the body and headstone in the 80s due to vandals. As far as the witch part and beheading, that's an urban legend... no one knows for sure how much of it is true.
