i think an easy way start this would be to use a starter/generator on the crank pulley or belt start it with a more modern 5 or 6hp briggs or kohler with an idler setup so can start and warm up the small one then just push a lever to crank the big one
That is a nice running engine.
Appears to be supremely well balanced also.

@cubcadetpuller Er...Sorry it took so long for me to reply. Wasn't paying attention. I think that a starternator is the best way to go.
