I wonder if anyone knows the meaning of this song...it's a sexual innuendo. A woman's hips, lower abdomen and smooth pubic bone makes the shape of what else? A Loving Cup. He's talking about eating pussy, friends ;)
@jbstonesfan I don't see the point in your statement. I'm a Beatles fan and a Stones fan as well. Why? Because I like great music. To me, that rivalry doesn't make any sense. They both were great.
Guitar capo on 5th fret for this one. A great song about c*nnilingus. Listen to the chorus, "gimme a little drink from your loving cup," and especially the last lines fading out from 4:13-4:17: "Taste that sweet water, a little bit of that hot wine . . ." I mean, don't think Mick is "just sitting in front of the fire" with her and not going down . . .
@ jajones ian stewart is on piano. he was a founding member with Brian Jones (i.e. before jagger/richards). he was always with the band till he died though he was technically not "in the band" because the stones' 1st producer Andrew Oldham insisted that there could only be 5 members in the band.
Hello, Mr. Casitification speaking! They offered me a job to defend this song until it got 100 likes and 0, zero, nothing, nought, love, nil, no votes against. So, would you like to renew my contract until 200 X 0 ???
Nicky Hopkins sets the tone on piano for this great tune. He deserves more recognition for his fabulous contributions to the Stones sound during their peak period of creativity.
@Steezeandmac I disagree, but you must know your shit or else you wouldn't make a statement like that. check out "vkgoeswild" she does the best piano covers on the internet
@jajones1952 Jimmy Miller was the producer on Exile on Main Street. The piano player is Ian Stewart (aka: Stu), who played with them for many years. He also played with lots of other bands including Led Zeppelin on the song that was named after him.... "Boogie with Stu" from Physical Grafitti.
@jajones1952 Nicky Hopkins Played on most if not all the classic Stones albums. He died a few years ago. Palyed on "Angie" "Sympathy for thr devil" and so many others. Just look at the cd or album credits. He was a genious!
@andy65guitar Nicky Hopkins RIP. This record was produced by the great Jimmy Miller. And of course the process the band went through recording this gem is infamous--all you need to do is google "Nellcote"; it's all there--the drugs, the craziness and the unbelievable finished product. I was 12 years old when I bought my first copy of "Exile' on vinyl. It changed my life.
@Omgirrl That's funny because Jagger said, "Exile is not one of my favorite albums. When I listen to Exile it has some of the worst mixes I've ever heard. I'd love to remix the record, not just because of the vocals, but because generally I think it sounds lousy. At the time Jimmy Miller was not functioning properly. I had to finish the whole record myself, because otherwise there were just these drunks and junkies." lol
@probrojeffro Yup, I don't doubt it. Read "Stones in Exile"--there is a lot in there about Jimmy Miller being, as Keef said, 'on the dose'. Jagger wasn't really there at Nellcote full time. He had just married Bianca and she was quite pregnant with Jade and living in Paris. But it's a masterpiece.

@jajones1952 the scottsman ian stewart i think. i think they mostly produced themselves. this was a notoriously lo fi album and it was hard to mix because of how "badly it was recorded."
Best Stones song ever! And you're all right, there should be a lot more hits on this one.... let's all listen to it daily to jack up the hits register....
