What can be the reason to create lifes, let them be loved by their families, to cut then down before reaching adulthood. There CANNOT be a loving, caring compassionate, just god. What if there is life after death and those 100,000 children have continued their life in a new dimension, a better dimension that we cannot know just like how we don't know where space ends or where the source of gravity is. This is what Jesus spoke about when he continually spoke about his kingdom not being of this earth.

Read the entire book - do the research to determine which parts of the book are inconsistent and false, then (if there's anything else) go from there. My mother died 4 yrs ago my father won't last long my 2nd son nearly died when he was 6 months old one of my friends drowned when she was 18 another of cancer at 21. Death is part of life but if you are right and there is no hope and everything Jesus said is bull. Then life is just a very sad joke.

This is such a wonderful song. She put into words exactly how I feel about religion - I'm not religious and I don't mind those who are as long as they are peaceful. But the second they start getting people all preachy and segregated ("your kind will rot in hell") I'm out. I have always said that if there is a heaven and heaven is a place that fences out people who don't hurt anyone but just live their lives the way they were meant to, then I don't want to go.
ort777--I've only been on here a little over a week, so it wasn't me. As a Christian, I thoroughly enjoy discussions with other Christians. It helps me discover what others are thinking, whether my thoughts are on the right track, and always gives me insights into the Bible that I might not have understood before. Just because the Bible was written in the past doesn't make it a 'historical document"...the New Testament wasn't even started until decades after Christ's death, based on anecdotes passed down thru the generations orally...that's what makes them STORIES (that goes for the Old Testament as well). Also, many of the books of the original Bible were thrown out by the council of Nicea , 325 AD, and it has been re-interpreted and rewritten countless times by mere MEN. That makes it FALLIBLE.

So many of the stories of the Bible, Old and New Testament are too preposterous and far-fetched and reek of ancient mythology....stories made up to explain what was unable to be explained then due to lack of advanced science and technology. At one time people accepted that a god (Apollo) pulled the sun across the sky with a golden chariot...we now know that's not true, right?

@CherchezMoi Read the translation of "The Gospel of Thomas". Jesus taught that "God" is found in all things of "Nature", NOT of humans. The Catholic church deemed it Heresy because it would mean the demise of all of their ornate Churches. This applies to all religions, with their churches, temples, etc.
@CherchezMoi It is historical. There is a lot of evidence to back things up. Including the great flood. Scientists who are Atheists, want to cover up any evidence that supports the Bible. But a few more open minded Scientists are finding things. Some aren't even Christian or believers, but they are open to it. And it is the history of the Jewish people.

We can't even 100% trust what was written YESTERDAY because of the bias of the the author.

It's all conjecture. Ever play "Whisper down the lane"? In just a few minutes a dozen people can get something wrong or interpret something differently. As far as the Korean war history...there were reporters embedded in the field who were there, the stories were read hot off the press, history was being established AS IT WAS HAPPENING. It was even filmed and documented so we can SEE what happened. If there was NOTHING actually seen or written about it AT ALL till 65 years later by people who weren't even there, it would be more than questionable.
@CherchezMoi How do YOU know they were written 300 years after death? Most scholars have evidence that Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were written as early as 30-50 years after death. Also, there were many people who witnessed the reserrection of Christ. And the same people were still living as the texts were written.

@VASINGER I don't KNOW personally when some of the books were written, no one knows exactly when, some scholars believe that the New Testament wasn't finalized until 300 years after Christ's death. In the fourth century, many books of the bible were taken out and destroyed (by The Council Of Nicea), who knows what "words of god" were discarded. This "historical document" was f*d with way too many times to make it believable. It's been touched by man, therefore, it is not divine.
@CherchezMoi Read it. The Bible was so eloquently written, it was obvious that it was guided by Divine intervention. Also, it was translated and copied many times, but that does not mean it isn't the same history book. Translations only vary to some degree, as in specific words, not ideologies or the core texts of the books.

The things written in the Bible were recorded to show God's intervention int that time and place so that future generations would all have a change to hear the message and be saved. Read the entire book - do the research to determine which parts of the book are inconsistent and false, then (if there's anything else) go from there. My mother died 4 yrs ago my father won't last long my 2nd son nearly died when he was 6 months old one of my friends drowned when she was 18 another of cancer at 21. Death is part of life but if you are right and there is no hope and everything Jesus said is bull. Then life is just a very sad joke.

It was a revolution based on freedom without responsibility. It failed because the human heart is deceitful and now some of those hippies are the bankers and politicians of today ripping people off and destroying the future of our children.

Im a christian and im looking at reasons why people seem to hate God. its really intresting and heart breaking at the same time. that is not my God Cheryl wheeler. This is such a wonderful song. She put into words exactly how I feel about religion - I'm not religious and I don't mind those who are as long as they are peaceful. But the second they start getting people all preachy and segregated ("your kind will rot in hell") I'm out. I have always said that if there is a heaven and heaven is a place that fences out people who don't hurt anyone but just live their lives the way they were meant to, then I don't want to go.

ort777--I've only been on here a little over a week, so it wasn't me. As a Christian, I thoroughly enjoy discussions with other Christians. It helps me discover what others are thinking, whether my thoughts are on the right track, and always gives me insights into the Bible that I might not have understood before. Yeah, it's atheists that are the root of all evil. We have books that tell people to kill people who don't believe in what we believe in. It is us who execute people who picking up wood on Sunday, who make threatening phone calls to Ellen Degeneres, who have a Vatican that covers up priests who rape young children, who proportionately make up majority of the population in prisons, who mutilate in the name of an imaginary deity. Yeah, that's the truth, all Christians aren't radical terrorists.

Just because the Bible was written in the past doesn't make it a 'historical document"...the New Testament wasn't even started until decades after Christ's death, based on anecdotes passed down thru the generations orally...that's what makes them STORIES (that goes for the Old Testament as well). Also, many of the books of the original Bible were thrown out by the council of Nicea , 325 AD, and it has been re-interpreted and rewritten countless times by mere MEN. That makes it FALLIBLE.

So many of the stories of the Bible, Old and New Testament are too preposterous and far-fetched and reek of ancient mythology....stories made up to explain what was unable to be explained then due to lack of advanced science and technology. At one time people accepted that a god (Apollo) pulled the sun across the sky with a golden chariot...we now know that's not true, right?

For over 200 years after Jesus' death, there was no written history - only verbal, through story telling. And we ALL know how a story can change from one end to the other (rumor control). I do believe there was a Jesus - but that he was simply a very spiritual man - one who perhaps travelled and learned from other religions, but "the son of God"? Hardly.

@CherchezMoi Read the translation of "The Gospel of Thomas". Jesus taught that "God" is found in all things of "Nature", NOT of humans. The Catholic church deemed it Heresy because it would mean the demise of all of their ornate Churches. This applies to all religions, with their churches, temples, etc.

@CherchezMoi It is historical. There is a lot of evidence to back things up. Including the great flood. Scientists who are Atheists, want to cover up any evidence that supports the Bible. But a few more open minded Scientists are finding things. Some aren't even Christian or believers, but they are open to it. And it is the history of the Jewish people.

@VASINGER I did acknowledge that it IS historical....of course it is, it's stuff that was written down that's really, really old. That makes it HISTORICAL. Factual, correct and 100% accurate? That's a different story, given the fact it was written by MEN who spun it and twisted it to fit their beliefs and agendas make it more than questionable in it's believability. We can't even 100% trust what was written YESTERDAY because of the bias of the the author.

@VASINGER So that in and of itself makes it factual? I don't think so. The first church wasn't established until several decades AD. You have yet to state anything that's proven fact. It's all conjecture. Ever play "Whisper down the lane"? In just a few minutes a dozen people can get something wrong or interpret something differently. Multiply that by a couple thousand years and see what you get.

So if a book were written today about the Korean War it wouldn't be accurate? Oh, and yes, I've heard of that game. The point is regardless, the texts are historical, and Science validates them as well.

@VASINGER Some of the books of the bible were written up to 300 years after Christ's death. As far as the Korean war history...there were reporters embedded in the field who were there, the stories were read hot off the press, history was being established AS IT WAS HAPPENING. It was even filmed and documented so we can SEE what happened. If there was NOTHING actually seen or written about it AT ALL till 65 years later by people who weren't even there, it would be more than questionable.

@CherchezMoi How do YOU know they were written 300 years after death? Most scholars have evidence that Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were written as early as 30-50 years after death. Also, there were many people who witnessed the reserrection of Christ. And the same people were still living as the texts were written.

@VASINGER I don't KNOW personally when some of the books were written, no one knows exactly when, some scholars believe that the New Testament wasn't finalized until 300 years after Christ's death. In the fourth century, many books of the bible were taken out and destroyed (by The Council Of Nicea), who knows what "words of god" were discarded. This "historical document" was f*d with way too many times to make it believable. It's been touched by man, therefore, it is not divine.

@CherchezMoi Read it. The Bible was so eloquently written, it was obvious that it was guided by Divine intervention. Also, it was translated and copied many times, but that does not mean it isn't the same history book. Translations only vary to some degree, as in specific words, not ideologies or the core texts of the books.

The things written in the Bible were recorded to show God's intervention int that time and place so that future generations would all have a change to hear the message and be saved. If you don't believe in it, fine. But you can't say the Bible is a throw away farce. Do you believe everything has an agenda? If so, I feel sorry for you.

Looking back at his life, you could see that he was demonically influenced and had mental problems. The Bible says the judged are according to their capacities.
