Treats? Are you kidding? Treats are for dogs and kids - not horses. Every horse that gets "treats" eventually become constant nibblers and some even start biting.
Sorry Dude, TREATS are Everything most of us are Against! Keep giving him treats he'll soon enough Only work for treats.. Keep a pocket full ready! I didn't see a spooked horse here, I agree we'd rather see some real action and some real progress. (gcoxalaska)
I have been training and starting horses since I was 12 and I am 26 now. I feel I have the right to say to this gentleman that if you are going to upload a training video onto youtube and want people to learn from it don't tip toe around the issues, show people how to correctly train their horse. Use a horse that isn't familiar with plastic bottles,or what have you. Don't use a horse that is already accustomed to these things and that you know is not going to spook! Poor sportsmanship!!!
That was a waste of time to watch, it would make sense if he actually used a "non bombproof" horse, then let's see a change in him. Also "BabyWestProductions" I do not have a single horse on my property that doesn't work off my voice. When I say "easy", or "slow" they listen immediately, any horse will if taught properly.
Interesting to read criticism from folks who don't understand the methodology of clicker training. It is valid way to train any animal. Clicker training is not bribing, but is a form of communication with the horse using positive reinforcement.
Enjoyed the video. Hope to see more. I could use some examples.
You guys are jerks, I want to see you say "relax" in a calm voice when your horse is loping and see your horse actually stop.
And that horse was so in tune with him. I give him a thumbs up. You guys are just jealous that you aren't good enough to do that, so you criticize him when his horse tosses his head, I can't think of a horse that DOESN'T do that. Sheesh.
cmon Dennis right from the beginning the horse was pushing you with his nose and gettin in your face and you gave him a dangtreat for it. And then it was moving around when you wanted it to stand still and you rewarded it for THAT. what in the world is going on here? You're teaching the horse to disrespect you and push you around.
Sorry, I gotta disagree. Watch the horse's ears and eyes. When he's working the horse, he has the horse's attention, which shows respect. Also, the horse turns in to him, not away, another sign of respect. I don't think the horse is showing him disrespect at all...I see a horse who's paying attention and doing what the trainer asks him. I've watched his other videos, this guy knows how to get a hrorse's respect.
During the whole thing horse is looking for a damn treat
Horses will not respect you if you give them food constantly. Why? Because for prey animals, food (grass) is a naturally abundant and expected element. Horses don't "relish" food like humans or other prey animals do. Predators enjoy food because prey animals are scarce and hard to kill. To horses, food is expected. If your body becomes a source of food/treats, horse will push into your space and nudge you, looking for treats constantly
When Dennis was "despooking" the horse it was fidgiting around looking for treats. The whole point of despooking is to apply "pressure" with the scary object and take it away when the horse stands still and relaxes. This teaches the horse that if he just stands still, whatever scares him will eventually go away. As you can see, the horse is still pussy-footing around and Dennis stops banging the jug on him. He didn't do enough and basically accomplished nothing.
The horse DOES turn into him, but it's just going wherever it wants to. Dennis gives the whip a little flick and the horse tosses its head like "F*** you i'm not goin' any faster." Right then Dennis should have applied more pressure until he got a better response in order to establish his leadership, but instead he just stood in the center like a dumbass.

spending millions of dollars in order to give your horse a treat every 5 seconds is not training. It's called BRIBING.
