I'm Italian too,I've never drove there since now so I'm not informed about latest conditions but luckly from 2001 a new motorway construction is in progress on the whole route from Naples to Reggio Calabria.Almost two thirds of the original track are now completely refurbished and modernized with safe emergency lanes,with a more "sweet-bends" track and with properly lighted enlarged tunnels. We all hope works will finish soon, avoiding everyone to "forget" this national motorway shame called A3!

i am italian and i know very well this freeway....in "valico di campotenese" the height is 1015 m on the level of the sea...this freeway is very dangerous...

Yes it's sooooo scary I would drive with 180km/h without problems on this motorway

Those unlit tunnels could be a safety problem though...
