@MrYokokurama1 Would you prefer G4's review of this game? 8.5 is still a great score, and I actually think it's right on. It's not so much just the clunky controls that set it back. Everything plays a part in the score, and what IGN is saying is, although the gameplay and presentation is very solid, there's still plenty of room for improvement. Which I have to agree, Other M is a good game, but its not as good as it could've been.
Personally loved this game. Liked how we actually got some back story for Samus. No Idea whats so wrong with her personallity...she is human and has had issues, especially with Ridley. not sure how to add to this, Did like the fact she didn't lose all of her abilities in the beggining, yes i can't cheat to get my Plasma Beam like Super metroid but that added to my fun with this title, no random equipment losses between games ^-^b
@naota545 The problem I have with the Ridley scene is that she beat Ridley like 5 times before. At this point she shouldn't be so afraid to the point she can't move. Surprised and scared sure, but she shouldn't take THAT long to start fighting.
I only have one huge criticism. I hate Samus' "new" personality... as a respected bounty hunter and the "silent badass" among video game characters for the past twenty years of video games, they definately made sure to give her a voice so apathetic that it just magnifies her pathetic personality as a woman who apparently had a "me against the world" teenage-rebel attitude when she was with the GF, and then the polar opposite of a corny-lined, passively-emotional bounty hunter.
@JackSamaelRevolver I don't expect her to have some macho, amazon like voice but COME ON! The whole game I was pissed off because her voice AND the personality made her seem like such a pussy... I think they should've had a different narrator [maybe Adam or something] and made Samus remain silent, or they'd have put more thought into the kind of person someone like her would really be.

After playing and finishing Metroid Other M, I can honestly say that I enjoyed it and its nowhere near as bad as G4 or all those other haters make it out to be, its no masterpeace far from it, but its still a decent Metroid game and a good game in its own right.
If all wii games would make their graphics look this good we wouldn't have retards always saying how bad the graphics are -_- These graphics are incredible though very surprising.
Question since when is taking orders from your former comanding officer sexist? just because Samus Aran is a bounty hunter doesn't mean she can just walk into a Galatic Federaction secured place and do what ever she wants, shes a bounty hunter not a vilantage like Batman, and why the hell are people complaing about Samus being oversexualized in this game? has anyone seen the unlockable endings to Zero Mission and Fusion they sexualize her way more then this game.
I love this game, this game made me want more metroid, I wanted to download super metroid on the wii store, but iceland stopped selling wii points cards, said they weren't selling very well, well no shit, if you put out a 2000 point card on 5800kr while its on about 20 bucks in america, then of course its gonna sell bad. (5800 kr is about 50 bucks, 58 bucks if you count out the economy) then I gotta get a credit card if I want it, it sucks living on a island.
its a good game but I think this game should have been on the 3DS. it would have made the perfect launch title and would have helped push sales of both system and game, the circle pad would suit Samus' movement perfectly the touch pad would have been great for items and/or third person controls and stuff like shooting into the screen, explosions first person view and particle effects would have been perfect for the 3D effect, I think it would have been overall better received

metroid prime was a PREQUEL of the original NES game?! If that's the case, then why did troopers in Prime 2: Echoes reference to the fact that Samus is a "legendary figure" that blew up Zebes? Furthermore, Ridley is killed and upgraded multiple times, but in the original Metroids he is back to his biological self? Come to think of it, this game kinda creates a time paradox. Where does Prime come in? Didn't Samus train with the Chozo, then go straight to galactic stardom, rather than join the GF?
I love how people who criticize this game like to project THEIR IMAGE of Samus when criticizing it.
Samus is a human, guys, a female at that. Even then, she's still a steel-hearted bounty hunter.
You guys need to get over your military girl fetish and appreciate this game for what it is, instead of calling it a failure, when it's far from it. Not saying it's perfect, but it's a great game.
in my opinion it was a great game but mainly for story. if it had been strictly sidescrolling or first person it would have to appealed to me much more.
So far... I'm loving it. I heard horrible things about Other M, but so far I rank it my second favorite 3D-era Metroid game after original Metroid: Prime. It has everything that made me love Metroid in first place and still they made it feel fresh. Story has been amazing so far and it has this really creepy feel that Metroid: Fusion has. Really, really loving it. NOTE: I still haven't finished it and i'd call myself "hardcore" old school Metroid fan but this is REAL Metroid with fresh approach.
Got this and No More Heroes 2 for 10 bucks each and Sin and Punishment for 15. I'm going to be stuck in my Wii for a while after I finish Skyward Sword and these 2.

We only get to know her from her flashbacks and those are some of the worse scenes. Your post is like saying people don't like The Phantom Menace because they don't care about Vader.

@TheDevilBreaker Hey, let him like the game. Most critics liked it (as did I) and we're not "wrong" by liking something you didn't like. This game has a good metacritic score, too, so there's nothing wrong with not liking it. also I've played every other Metroid game multple times through, and this is one of my favorites.
gotta disagree pal. when this game out it was attacked by everyone. G4 has loud foul mouthed selfish cunts but not everyone is like that. IGN gave it a more or less good score but it doesnt speak for everyone.
Samus had a bad character portrayal and everyone outraged over it. She acts like a little girl in some moments. She doesn't act like in the original manga which was probably written by the same guy Sakamoto.

@TheDevilBreaker nah, some people actually her this way. This is the very first time that Samus is even portrayed this way in a video game, she was robotlike in the older games. You expected them to get it right just like that? It's kinda like Old Snake in MGS4, some of the choices Sakamoto made might be questionable, but in the end of the day it doesn't even bother us cuz, well...It's Samus, one of the most iconic characters ever. Btw, the gameplay fucking rocks in this game.
I disagree. A character being fleshed out terribly is far worse than not doing it at all. plus the games really short, the controls are too limited and i dont want to a sequel to play this exact IF we get a one to this mess. This game only sold 500,000 units NEW for a reason.

I love the Prime series, and the original trilogy. The story in those games was badass. Samus needs someone better directing her next sequel. I hope future games in the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy does something different.
@elsquibbs Its probably the story, the fact they never tell you who the murderer was between the team mates, and it often talked about the hyper beam yet I never got to use it, why saying I have it when I can't use it? Did I miss something? But I think the gameplay is amazing, I loved it, made me a even bigger fan of the series.

But she is far too obediant, and there is one scene where she gets far more afraid then she should have. (Considering what she went through in past games, like Super Metroid, and Metroid 1)
@ObscuroSknim1234 I consider myself a hardcore metroid fan and possess every single game in the series, including Metroid pinball even though i hate pinball :S. Anyway, it's the gameplay that's king in the series, so if you've never played the game, i really recommend it. It's not the best in the series, but it's a decent entry. Let's just hope that the next one can surpass Super Metroid.

The only thing i hate about this game is the controls, they could have handled it A LOT better, simply by adding the nunchuck attatchment to it, I HATE FLIPPING THE WII MOTE IN THE HEAT OF A BATTLE JUST TO SHOOT A DAMN MISSLE OR TO SCAN. And maybe they could have gotten rid of the auto aim if that was the case, just to make it feel like a true metroid game.
The story is okay, and I guess its kinda understandable for Samus to go through PSD, but next to that it's nothing really special.

Metroid Other M one of the most underrated games on the Wii, and quite possibly the most overlyhated gamesof all time considering most people hate it just because Samus personalty isn't what everyone all imagined her to be over the years, name one moment in any of the other Metroid games that gave us some idea as to what kind of person Samus is? in batman beyond return of the Joker old Bruce Wayne froze up when he found out the Joker is still alive just like Samus did infront of Ridley.

Metroid other M is a solid Metroid game yet it's a bit odd the way samus acts like a human, she is a warrior, a crude fighter. the game is enjoyable, hard to beat (not that much), thrilling during the combat, the pointer for first person works wonders to get you into the action, visualy beautiful, the sound is great and the controls are pretty good yet I would rather use an analog stick than the D-Pad
I must say that I had low hopes with this game. Byt hen I played it , it was awesome. My only problem was Samus' voice actor , how they feminized her zero suit , and the way she acted against Ridley. We needed Metroid prime Samus , who flipped off the Ing when she went through thte portal just as their planet was exploding , and raped Ridley with her arm cannon forcing him to go to a psychiatrist.
@bladiumdragon she fought Ridley on planet zebes (Metroid NES), then she fought Meta Ridley on tallon IV (Metroid Prime GC), yet again she fought Omega Ridley on the Space pirates home world (Metroid Prime 3 Wii) and finally she fought Ridley again on Zebes (Metroid 3 SNES) and they tell me she finds ridley again and gets crying like a baby that's a nonsense really samus is the not human type, she has no emotions just the mission she seeks nothing more than security for the galaxy
@cort00 She does have emotions but knows when not to show them. She is a professional fighter and will gladly destroy a planet for pocket change. I'm still waiting for metroid five though. I wonder when they'll decide to make something that isn't an "in-between".
@bladiumdragon I think she's more in the business for the safety of the galaxy than for pocket change, in metroid prime 2 echoes she saves the planet and the luminoth there and she goes away without claiming any reward even though they might have given her something of value. hope for a new metroid on 3DS but we never know what's going to be, in the next chapter samus isn't human any more, she is a hybrid between a human, a chozo and a metroid. all fused inside her powersuit
I think people forget that the Creator of metroid wrote the story. The Samus you see in this game is the SAME samus from the previous games. This is What the Creator wanted.
@Baromirek1 but she didn't kill him 5+ times. It's even stated in the prime games that he was recovered and healed during the events of prime 2. During super metroid, she thought that she had finally killed him. Turns out she did. This Ridley was a clone remember?
PTSD after killing Ridley 5+ times was awful. And finally, the music wasn't as good as previous titles. Those things aside, the game was actually really fun to play. Sense mode was brilliant, the villain was surprisingly good, the conspiracy plot was fantastic, and the bosses were good. But overall, it just didn't do the series, or Samus, justice.
Concentration wouldn't have been such a joke if they had simply given it as an upgrade. Samus was not accurately portrayed. Instead of making her seem more human, they made her seem more weak. Being emotional doesn't mean being whiny and submissive, and I have a hard time believing she was that attached to the Baby. The voice over work for her was awful. Trying to tell a conspiracy and a background story at the same time didn't work as well as it should have.
Where to begin, where to begin. Although I enjoyed playing the game, there were more problems with it than IGN said, but less than G4's terrible review. The 1st person perspective was largely unnecessary and clunky, and I hated not being able to fire missiles from 3rd person. Adam restricting your powers was understandable with upgrades like the power bomb, but everything else was poor writing. And no new upgrades besides seeker missile was disappointing.

Look at all the horrible games the Sonic franchise has and that series is still going strong. Prime trilogy owns this shit. Sorry, Other M destroyed the strong and mysterious Samus, failed in the crontrollers, the graphics look generic, environments are small without anything to explore. This game failed as a METROID game. That's the major truth.

So I doubt she is cold, calculated and emotionless, though nevertheless the way she reacted when seeing Ridley was a bit of a joke

I LOVE the "old-school" metroid games; that 2D, side scroll (Castlevania, Ninja gaiden)...However,I know what your talking about when you say "eerie"; Prime and Prime Echoes had that feeling of whats coming at you from behind or from the side you cant see! Im not sure how they were able to make you feel so alone and so threatened at the same time; high suspense for a non-horror type game, but I love em ALL!

I was skeptical at first, but after playing this, i was quite satisfied. even with the first person clunckyness, I figured out how to evade as soon as I got out of it. It's true, it's a different Metriod game all together, but it's still an awsome game. I already beat it once and I plan on doing another playthrough soon. ^_^
Why are people going on about it not being a Metroid game? Have you had a look at Mario? You had the originals which were alike, then you had the games completely change once they hit 3D. You also have the RPG ones and the sport ones... I forgot the party games too.

@TheBlackSpiral I admit Metroid Other M isnt a true Metroid game and Samus potrail is quite inconsitent with her potrail in previous games, but I still found Metroid Other M to be a pretty good game in its own right just a terrible Metroid game, infact if it wasn't a Metroid game it would probally be on of the most loved titles on the wii. Metroid Other M isn't a true Metroid game but its hardly anywhere near as bad as you make it out to be.
@MrMetroid1998 I don't know man, I'm just not digging it. I mean, gameplay wise it's not terrible. I like the semi-return to the 2D roots especially, but they should've stuck with that all the way, and not have the terrible first person aim for rockets rubbish in it. Best not to dwell on the Samus character-change issue. And I just hate the design of the new enemies in the game. They don't fit in at all, and look quite badly designed, if you ask me. To each their own, I suppose.
I somewhat agree with IGN. First, nsmb isn't a remake! Second, first person can get really annoying. Third, it's still challenging, because the bosses can take a while to figure out how to beat. Unlike mario bosses, it's really not straightforward. It took me a long time to figure out how to "beat" MB. It also took me a while to figure out how to beat the boss in the elevator shaft thing.

I respectfully disagree. The gameplay of Other M may have been alright (barring some frustrations) but so much of the writing and voice acting (of Samus especially) is just insulting. I think Yahtzee summed things up pretty well in his review. Google "Zero Punctuation Metroid Other M" if you want to give it a watch. I think he hits on just about everything that bothered me about the game.
@donskiver ight, watch this...ima google that..but if it wasn't for the previews and trailors of other m...i...i person who used to HATE metroid with a passion....wouldn't started playing playing all the metroids in story order up to super metroid. ya'l should give it a rest a ready by now...i love zelda, but the new one looks stupid to me... but i'll still play it and beat it without complains...at the end of the day, you can't do nothing about it anyways.
@romahnae True there isn't much we can do at the end of the day. I haven't checked out the new zelda title yet. I'm finding that the more hype there is behind a game and the more hyped up I get for a game, the more I get disappointed when I actually play it. So I keep myself in the dark to avoid getting my expectations up too high.
Samus' character was fucking terrible. Her voice acting was fucking terrible. And the writing was fucking terrible. I was so very disappointed with this game.
Metroid should be in 2D. Itd be nice to see classics like Metroid Fusion and Super Metroid...hell...even the original NES version.

I love this game, this game made me want more metroid, I wanted to download super metroid on the wii store, but iceland stopped selling wii points cards, said they weren't selling very well, well no shit, if you put out a 2000 point card on 5800kr while its on about 20 bucks in america, then of course its gonna sell bad. (5800 kr is about 50 bucks, 58 bucks if you count out the economy) then I gotta get a credit card if I want it, it sucks living on a island.

its a good game but I think this game should have been on the 3DS. it would have made the perfect launch title and would have helped push sales of both system and game, the circle pad would suit Samus' movement perfectly the touch pad would have been great for items and/or third person controls and stuff like shooting into the screen, explosions first person view and particle effects would have been perfect for the 3D effect, I think it would have been overall better received

metroid prime was a PREQUEL of the original NES game?! If that's the case, then why did troopers in Prime 2: Echoes reference to the fact that Samus is a "legendary figure" that blew up Zebes? Furthermore, Ridley is killed and upgraded multiple times, but in the original Metroids he is back to his biological self? Come to think of it, this game kinda creates a time paradox. Where does Prime come in? Didn't Samus train with the Chozo, then go straight to galactic stardom, rather than join the GF?

I love how people who criticize this game like to project THEIR IMAGE of Samus when criticizing it.
Samus is a human, guys, a female at that. Even then, she's still a steel-hearted bounty hunter.
You guys need to get over your military girl fetish and appreciate this game for what it is, instead of calling it a failure, when it's far from it. Not saying it's perfect, but it's a great game.

So far... I'm loving it. I heard horrible things about Other M, but so far I rank it my second favorite 3D-era Metroid game after original Metroid: Prime. It has everything that made me love Metroid in first place and still they made it feel fresh. Story has been amazing so far and it has this really creepy feel that Metroid: Fusion has. Really, really loving it. NOTE: I still haven't finished it and i'd call myself "hardcore" old school Metroid fan but this is REAL Metroid with fresh approach.

Samus had a bad character portrayal and everyone outraged over it. She acts like a little girl in some moments. She doesn't act like in the original manga which was probably written by the same guy Sakamoto.

You expected them to get it right just like that? It's kinda like Old Snake in MGS4, some of the choices Sakamoto made might be questionable, but in the end of the day it doesn't even bother us cuz, well...It's Samus, one of the most iconic characters ever. I disagree. A character being fleshed out terribly is far worse than not doing it at all. plus the games really short, the controls are too limited and i dont want to a sequel to play this exact IF we get a one to this mess. This game only sold 500,000 units NEW for a reason.

ALL of the Metroid games are short. People do speedruns all the time. Actually, the sales really don't surprise me. Japan's really not that into Metroid.
People buy games so they can enjoy the experience out of the game. Not nitpick on the negative things. You're putting too much thought into it.
You jump and shoot...Samus has done it for years now, the controls are fine (feels like NES)

I love the Prime series, and the original trilogy. The story in those games was badass. Samus needs someone better directing her next sequel. I hope future games in the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy does something different.

But her character acts just didn't feel right... I never played the game, but from what I saw in the Cutscenes, I was seriously disappointed in Samus.
I imagined a strong-willed, confident character that did what she thought was best. But all I saw was a timid, weak-minded Samus that took orders like a Soldier, not a Bounty Hunter 0.o
That's just my intake on the though, the gameplay may be amazing.

Anyway, it's the gameplay that's king in the series, so if you've never played the game, i really recommend it. It's not the best in the series, but it's a decent entry. Let's just hope that the next one can surpass Super Metroid.

The only thing i hate about this game is the controls, they could have handled it A LOT better, simply by adding the nunchuck attatchment to it, I HATE FLIPPING THE WII MOTE IN THE HEAT OF A BATTLE JUST TO SHOOT A DAMN MISSLE OR TO SCAN. And maybe they could have gotten rid of the auto aim if that was the case, just to make it feel like a true metroid game.
The story is okay, and I guess its kinda understandable for Samus to go through PSD, but next to that it's nothing really special.

Metroid Other M one of the most underrated games on the Wii, and quite possibly the most overlyhated gamesof all time considering most people hate it just because Samus personalty isn't what everyone all imagined her to be over the years, name one moment in any of the other Metroid games that gave us some idea as to what kind of person Samus is? in batman beyond return of the Joker old Bruce Wayne froze up when he found out the Joker is still alive just like Samus did infront of Ridley.

Metroid other M is a solid Metroid game yet it's a bit odd the way samus acts like a human, she is a warrior, a crude fighter. the game is enjoyable, hard to beat (not that much), thrilling during the combat, the pointer for first person works wonders to get you into the action, visualy beautiful, the sound is great and the controls are pretty good yet I would rather use an analog stick than the D-Pad

I must say that I had low hopes with this game. Byt hen I played it , it was awesome. My only problem was Samus' voice actor , how they feminized her zero suit , and the way she acted against Ridley. We needed Metroid prime Samus , who flipped off the Ing when she went through thte portal just as their planet was exploding , and raped Ridley with her arm cannon forcing him to go to a psychiatrist.

@bladiumdragon she fought Ridley on planet zebes (Metroid NES), then she fought Meta Ridley on tallon IV (Metroid Prime GC), yet again she fought Omega Ridley on the Space pirates home world (Metroid Prime 3 Wii) and finally she fought Ridley again on Zebes (Metroid 3 SNES) and they tell me she finds ridley again and gets crying like a baby that's a nonsense really samus is the not human type, she has no emotions just the mission she seeks nothing more than security for the galaxy

PTSD after killing Ridley 5+ times was awful. And finally, the music wasn't as good as previous titles. Those things aside, the game was actually really fun to play. Sense mode was brilliant, the villain was surprisingly good, the conspiracy plot was fantastic, and the bosses were good. But overall, it just didn't do the series, or Samus, justice.

Concentration wouldn't have been such a joke if they had simply given it as an upgrade. Samus was not accurately portrayed. Instead of making her seem more human, they made her seem more weak. Being emotional doesn't mean being whiny and submissive, and I have a hard time believing she was that attached to the Baby. The voice over work for her was awful. Trying to tell a conspiracy and a background story at the same time didn't work as well as it should have.

Where to begin, where to begin. Although I enjoyed playing the game, there were more problems with it than IGN said, but less than G4's terrible review. The 1st person perspective was largely unnecessary and clunky, and I hated not being able to fire missiles from 3rd person. Adam restricting your powers was understandable with upgrades like the power bomb, but everything else was poor writing. And no new upgrades besides seeker missile was disappointing.

I LOVE the "old-school" metroid games; that 2D, side scroll (Castlevania, Ninja gaiden)...However,I know what your talking about when you say "eerie"; Prime and Prime Echoes had that feeling of whats coming at you from behind or from the side you cant see! Im not sure how they were able to make you feel so alone and so threatened at the same time; high suspense for a non-horror type game, but I love em ALL!

I was skeptical at first, but after playing this, i was quite satisfied. even with the first person clunckyness, I figured out how to evade as soon as I got out of it. It's true, it's a different Metriod game all together, but it's still an awsome game. I already beat it once and I plan on doing another playthrough soon. ^_^

@TheBlackSpiral I admit Metroid Other M isnt a true Metroid game and Samus potrail is quite inconsitent with her potrail in previous games, but I still found Metroid Other M to be a pretty good game in its own right just a terrible Metroid game, infact if it wasn't a Metroid game it would probally be on of the most loved titles on the wii. Metroid Other M isn't a true Metroid game but its hardly anywhere near as bad as you make it out to be.

@MrMetroid1998 I don't know man, I'm just not digging it. I mean, gameplay wise it's not terrible. I like the semi-return to the 2D roots especially, but they should've stuck with that all the way, and not have the terrible first person aim for rockets rubbish in it. Best not to dwell on the Samus character-change issue. And I just hate the design of the new enemies in the game. They don't fit in at all, and look quite badly designed, if you ask me. To each their own, I suppose.

Look, the biggest problem i had was that after you beat it, you cant use the melee attacks with screw attack. It made the game way too boring...

I somewhat agree with IGN. First, nsmb isn't a remake! Second, first person can get really annoying. Third, it's still challenging, because the bosses can take a while to figure out how to beat. Unlike mario bosses, it's really not straightforward. It took me a long time to figure out how to "beat" MB. It also took me a while to figure out how to beat the boss in the elevator shaft thing.

I respectfully disagree. The gameplay of Other M may have been alright (barring some frustrations) but so much of the writing and voice acting (of Samus especially) is just insulting. I think Yahtzee summed things up pretty well in his review. Google "Zero Punctuation Metroid Other M" if you want to give it a watch. I think he hits on just about everything that bothered me about the game.

@donskiver ight, watch this...ima google that..but if it wasn't for the previews and trailors of other m...i...i person who used to HATE metroid with a passion....wouldn't started playing playing all the metroids in story order up to super metroid. ya'l should give it a rest a ready by now...i love zelda, but the new one looks stupid to me... but i'll still play it and beat it without complains...at the end of the day, you can't do nothing about it anyways.

@romahnae True there isn't much we can do at the end of the day. I haven't checked out the new zelda title yet. I'm finding that the more hype there is behind a game and the more hyped up I get for a game, the more I get disappointed when I actually play it. So I keep myself in the dark to avoid getting my expectations up too high.
