@Shink5 scooped mids is like suicide in a band. it won't cut through a bands eq, and all you'll hear is a fuck of treble from the high hat and crash, and thump of the bass.

@mav5150 Yeah, I agree that the ENGL is more defined, but I'm just trying to give an example that this really isn't the best example of the Rivera at it's best. as with the ENGL. Some of the EMG video's don't exactly let the ENGL shine. like Alexi's, is just gain beyond belief. However, I do give the end result to the ENGL. and Jeff Loomis is just a better all around player than Jon Donais.

@dadudeguy2 To get a clearer and punchier sounding distortion. When gain is turned too high it begins to get muddy and not sound to good. So what most bands do is turn down the gain a bit, and add an OD pedal. This brings out the distortion, and makes it more defined, it also makes pinch harmonics louder. All the while keeping it less muddy.

I use his ltd sig with a SD blackout metal 2 in the bridge, putting it through a engl powerball, I was using a maxon overdrive as well but you seriously need no use for it with an engl, so much distortion in that amp

And I was using my maxon for abit, but i figured I really don t need it, so much power in the engl powerball, sounds amazing

I don't think it sounds too muddy... also you can't really say what his tone is like since he just started using the Rivera stuff. The only thing you would really have to go off of is the album that dropped today, or the one performance on Jimmy Fallon... I think it's a pretty sick tone, doesn't sound muddy at all. At least not more muddy than the Krank tone did.
