Two things... this movie was really good (unfortunately mostly forgotten), and the muted trumpet playing throughout is AMAZING. Don't watch it expecting the Godfather, it's more Shakespeare meets Goodfellas set in Harlem. There are a few rough scenes, but it's really worth a watch.
You gotta be mixed now to get a leading lady role now. They even use mixed kids to play their children even when both parents are black, but that's been going on since the Cosby Show. Big ups to Queen Latifa who makes her own damn movies and doesn't have to wait for someone to find her light enough and wavy-haired enough to playing a supporting actress role as anyone's bitch-on-the-side.
