Record vinyl records to PC without a USB turntable

im just trying to play my record player through my computer and speakers until i get a receiver. i just bought an 1/8 inch to dual rca Y- adapter to plug into the computer, am i on the right track or am i wrong completely?

@riley35 you probably need a phono preamp of some sort like like a mixer to convert a phono signal into a line one

This was actually a pretty helpful video. Good job, and thanks a lot for the help. Audio quality sort of ducked at the end of the vid, though. I'll probably use SoundForge to record and export mine in FLAC for high quality.
