Pinkerton - 10 Blue - 9.5 Maladroit - 9 Green - 8.5 Hurley - 8.3 SS2K - 8.1 Make Believe - 7.5 Death to false metal - 7 Red - 6 (WITH the deluxe tracks. Most of the album is pure average) Raditude - 3 Weezer sucks? The fact they made 1 eh album and 1 bad album does not undo the fact that they made possibly the greatest rock album of all time, 2 other inredible albums, and 5 other very good albums. Not even including Alone 1 and 2 and B sides or demos.
@JackWalter4 dude Blue 10. Pinkerton 9.5, Green 8.5, MALADROIT 7.8, Make Believe 6.5, everything else cheesy listen to once and put on the shelf BS. I was a weezer fan when they were still raging. All Rivers does is rap in his songs his melodic voice is almost gone, and it sucks.
You put Death to false metal that high? i thought it was terrible... and red should definitely be higher than Make Believe. Other than that, i think your list is awesome.
Sorry, I seriously question someone's taste in music when they say the new weezer is good. Lots bands evolve and change their sound over time. Many do it successfully or atleast not too detrimentally. Depending on how one judges success, it can be said that Weezer is both a success and failure. Financially they were successful; artisically they failed miserably. The world would be a better place without "Beverly Hills"
@tcdahn7 bro, you started to sound like you knew what you were talking about until about halfway through. If a band doesn't evolve completely, they become stale, no matter how good their music is. So what if their recent stuff isn't as good. You cant match perfection. Cut Rivers a break. He's a musical genius.
@DaLSync they moved from introspection to the superficial. Thats not a sign of genius; that's a sign of laziness and greed. Definitely not the model a great band should follow. I do admit it was a purposful regression. I understand a band may never recapture past glory, but their music should move forward. Live never regained the same acclaim gained from Throwing Copper, but their music developed. To get a grasp of this, listen to the entire Beatles' catalog. It's defined evolution.
@horizontaleight Yeah, I remember it like it was yesterday. Oh, wait, it was yesterday. I'll be right back! I have to check up on something! BREAKING NEWS! They changed their sound and still kick ass to me. So, that's awesome. Wow, that was a close one. So, I'll check you later and you enjoy your past and I'll enjoy it all. Just more music for me. I hate how these comments are the ones getting all the thumbs up. I love Weezer and I love them in full. I know that many just can't but I do.
@PortalMouth Early Weezer stands for something way more epic than their latest stuff....that's why people are liking those comments because they understand that this album Pinkerton is so flipping incredible and that pretty much everything that followed just sucked and was a massive disappointment. The 'rawness' and edginess of Pinkerton is just unbeatable, and what they produced after was sooooo far from what Pinkerton stands for, us 'early fans' are left thinking what the actual hell?
@horizontaleight yeah i agree man i miss the good old days now when i see and hear them now it makes we want to buy a plane ticket find Rivers Cuomo and tell him how I feel with a nice swift punch to the face
If Make Believe didnt have WAAOD and Beverly Hills, it would be a great album. I mean, havent you guys heard The Damage in Your Heart, Peace, or Hold Me?
@paralelSun Dont get me wrong, i love Old Weezer the best, infact I just got the special Pinkerton Deluxe Fan pack, but Weezers new stuff is known more for their singles than their good new stuff.
Blue- 9.0 (I honestly dont like My Name is Jonas and Holiday
Pinkerton- 10 (i love every track)
Green- 7.5 (i like songs like Simple Pages and Crab)
@SlideAway09 I didnt like Red that much. I liked Pork and Beans, Dreaming, Everybody Get Dangerous, but I wouldnt say I like the Album. Raditude would've been great if it had a rock vibe to it with exceptions to I Want You Too, but If songs like Cant Stop Partying and I Dont Want to Let you Go appeared in its Alone form the album wouldve been better. Maladroit is way underrated and the second half of Green as well as Make Believe is underrated.
@SlideAway09 Weezer is crapped on too much. Pinkerton "became" good when everyone realized that the new stuff "wasn't good". I love most of Weezer's stuff. You can't really judge an album until you heard the whole thing. And that's what a lot of modern day "music" fans do. They listen to the singles and decide they like what they hear just by those singles.
@SlideAway09 Just add pig, the spider, miss sweeney, it's easy, and subtract the weaker songs on that album and you have a classic. Actually, almost every Weezer album post Pinkerton had some b sides or bonus tracks or something that would've made the album much better.
Ok, they arent that bad now, in fact they are a still making very good music. They just made 2 masterpieces at the beggining of their career, and now they cant live up to the expectations.
And i dont care what anyone sayd, maladroit was AWESOME
I always feel like the next album will be something extremely different, but with this kind of feeling. I actually DO like the new stuff in a very different way. Raditude is fun background music at a party for what it's worth, but this is a thinking song.
As someone who IS waiting, I can safely say this is probably my favorite Weezer song of all time.
I remember when this album got crapped on by the critics. Rollings stones "worst album of the year". Fans crapped on it too no one bought it at first. I think weezer is just five years ahead of their own fans.
@Tkallion1 The only difference is that no one is going to look back at Make Believe in 5 years and say, "You know, that album's actually pretty good."
they are still good! they are just exploring and having fun doing what they want i will admit pinkerton is the best but i still think they put out fun catchy songs
I dont see how this song sounds anymore different than some of their new stuff except Rivers voice actually sounds better in 2010 and more clear, and also the instruments sound better in 2010. So all in all, if the sound has changed, its just been an improvment in quality. So fuckoff haters.
@supaballzpdp It's actually true. His voice is more clear and the notes are less distorted. The content is less dark and more mainstream. Easy to see how it applies to a different demographic.
Sugar ray never writes in one genre twice, so we're lucky to have weezer still in a similar vein.
this rite here is the purest form of weezer's tru style...sum of that 50's style rock and roll with a slight geeky edge to it....GOD BLESS THE BLUE ALBUM AND PINKERTON..GOD BLESS EARLY WEEZER!..GOD BLESS MATT SHARP'S BAND THE RENTALS!..GOD BLESS BRIAN BELLS BAND THE SPACE TWINS
Oh man..yeah. Some people have it right...I remember waiting for Pinkerton to be released and thinking it would be a continuation of the Blue album..and then just the emotion and rawness and how sad it was just fucking floored me! I was about 20 at the time and just was overcome with how different it was from the Blue album and was just so taken with how similar the songs were so right there with what I was feeling. Amazing album I'll never forget how it felt hearing the first time...
@Mattwad Ah, but you can't recreate a masterpiece ... It's like MerandoNation said, he just doesn't have the same emotions anymore. It seems like Rivers' music parallels his emotions
they were better at recording themselves than any producer. This album was what they really "sounded" like. I remember when this came out and wore out the cd. So much pain on one album I could related to it. Ah the pain of being young.
The only albums I hate are Red and Ratitude. Green was okay and Maladroit wasn't that bad. What the fuck happened to these guys? What ever happened to Rivers writing music like this?
I agree, the last two albums are garbage. I thought Maladroit was excellent, green was alright for a straight forward rock record, but nothing compares to the Pinkerton and SFTBH sessions.
pinkerton was rivers' (planB)result album after scratching SFTBH. look how awesome pinkerton turned out! that just shows how EPIC SFTBH was going to be!!!!!!
@86entourage yeah, but I'm sure he scratched it for a reason. The whole thing just seems kinda goofy to me. Not saying it couldn't have been really cool, but I think the Pinkerton album was probably the better choice in the end.
@DanTheManFantastic90 To me, this sounds more like a Blue song that BECAME a Pinkerton song...kinda making it somewhat of a 90s era, unmade third album.
This just goes to show that Pinkerton could've been an excellent 15 track album. Seriously, there are so many good b-sides. You could add this song, YGYLTMS, I just threw out the love of my dreams, Superfriend (I think it was recorded during these sessions based on the dvd), and probably countless other songs that this guy had that were never heard by the public. Rivers was at a creative peak during this time.
I don't want to be the annoying youtube guy that makes 100 comments on the same video, but I just decided that this is my favorite weezer song of ALL time :)
Guys it goes like this. Blue is classic. Pinkerton is a masterpiece. Green is a boring piece of shit save Island in the Sun. Maladroit is the best post- Good Weezer album. It has energy to it. Make Believe sucked. Red had its moments. Best songs were bonus material. Raditude is laughably terrible.
I'm a new weezer fan and I'm really liking Pinkerton from what I've heard. Would you recommend looking into blue album first, or staying with pinkerton? I hear they're pretty equally amazing...
Get Blue, then Pinkerton, Green, Maladroit, Make Believe. But prepare to be slightly disappointed after Pinkerton. I wouldn't bother getting Red or Raditude.
I'd actually suggest going with Blue, Green, Maladroit, then Pinkerton. That way, you get the 4 best albums starting with the most popular, then the worse 2, then the best. that way, you're never disappointed with what you get. Avoid Make Believe, unless you don't mind melody without meaning, and only get Red and Raditude if you're willing to listen to them without even beginning to compare them to the old stuff, as they're actually fairly good, they just pale in comparison tothe early stuff.
yes man blue first for happy melodic songs then pinkerton shocks wiht its fat genial distirtions clever tricks and personal sad lyrics then You ask wow whats next a really big thing not at all Rivers ran out of ideas..... sad to say started to listen Eve6, TEB, our lady peace, dam......
I would listen to the blue album on youtube because many of their later works are in a way like the blue album. Then Pinkerton. Make Believe (Despite the Beverly Hills Song) is a good follow up to Pinkerton. Then its your own tastes as to whether you will love Red, maladroit, Green and Raditude. Only album I hate is Ratitude.
The man was definitely atop his creative peak during this time. It kind of amazes me how many awesome songs he pumped out in the era of the first two albums. Almost, if I dare say, like the Beatles just cranking out sweet pop songs constantly during the 60's. However, they kept it up their entire career.
How can people expect a 40 year old, married, happy man to make an album like Pinkerton. He's in a stage in his life where he can pretty much only make fun songs. If he tried to make an album like Pinkerton it would suck.
i dont see why people dont like the "new weezer" their newer albums are different than pinkerton but all their albums are different and thats what i love about them
It's still Weezer, so it's better than everything else on the radio, but it just seems that they've turned their back on everything that made the classic fans fall in love with them. I understand they want to grow as artists, but they seem to be doing the opposite. Now they're just making goofy pop songs for the mall-going population. It's weird that Rivers has gotten less mature as he's gotten older. I think the last decent album was Make Believe because it at least had integrity.
I miss old Weezer. They've been terrible since they regrouped in 2001. I heard that Rivers made a point to stay away from the sound of Pinkerton because it wasn't a popular album.
Poor Cuomo. Although, I'm sure it was sad for him to have someone lose interest on him, this song makes me smile because we can all relate to this type of relationship issue. Simple yet brilliant.
no they're not. rivers admits that it's a masterpiece now. He only said he was embarrassed because of the horrible reception, he never really meant it. Could you imagine where Weezer would be if the media didn't screw up on this one? We would've gotten many more personal songs, and more beautiful songwriting. Not just poppy feel goodies. Fuck those critics.

@puunig
i suggest chronologically getting into Weezer.

However, they kept it up their entire career.

why they stopped??? maybe is something about Rivers girl friend? is she chinese or something? It sounds beatle story to me......

How can people expect a 40 year old, married, happy man to make an album like Pinkerton. He's in a stage in his life where he can pretty much only make fun songs. If he tried to make an album like Pinkerton it would suck.
ToastIsLife 2 years ago
i agree, it just isn't possible for him to make an album like this again

the others albums lack creative side to me he could grow up and become less loud or something insead delivering boring tunes

i dont see why people dont like the "new weezer" their newer albums are different than pinkerton but all their albums are different and thats what i love about them

It makes me sad that they will never make music like this ever again.

I miss old Weezer. They've been terrible since they regrouped in 2001. I heard that Rivers made a point to stay away from the sound of Pinkerton because it wasn't a popular album.

Oh Weezer, I miss you more than you will ever know.

Poor Cuomo. Although, I'm sure it was sad for him to have someone lose interest on him, this song makes me smile because we can all relate to this type of relationship issue. Simple yet brilliant.

too bad they are embarressed by this.
jchaump 2 years ago 12
no they're not. rivers admits that it's a masterpiece now. He only said he was embarrassed because of the horrible reception, he never really meant it. Could you imagine where Weezer would be if the media didn't screw up on this one? We would've gotten many more personal songs, and more beautiful songwriting. Not just poppy feel goodies. Fuck those critics.
bbeaup 2 years ago 13
Maybe he should have went on with it even though critics weren't into it...
