  • I love these. I put em on while I do other stuff on me comp

  • Looks like Apple should have used Verzion another carrier. AT&T has to many excuses of why the Iphone service/3G suck in some major areas.

    That's just how it looks.

  • iphone 3g connections only suck in the USA.

  • The iPhone's 3G performance will only be as good as the 3G network it's on, It's the same with any 3G phone. I guess that AT&T's 3G network in the USA not that good.

Everywhere else where there is good 3G coverage the iPhone works just fine, as well as any other mobile phone.

If the iPhone was to be on Verizon it would have to be a completely new CDMA EV-DO model. As the current one is GSM UMTS only.

  • it will only be as fast as the network too and USA AT&T has the fastest 3G network in USA

  • I've heard that AT&Ts is the fastest 3G network, but is it's coverage as good as say Verizon?

  • did eric say a phone with snapdragon wont be faster than the iphone. guess he hasnt seen the videos of the htc hd2 being faster than the iphone.

  • no. i never said that

  • you said the iphone would be faster.

  • Its like saying of Obama cant be person of the year because McCain came to compete with him. Who agrees?

  • i like eric but i hate how he treats apple like such a godly company

  • he is brainwashed and blind

  • An example of why Apple Sucks....

They are locking out iPhone developers from making any updates to their apps (iTunes Connect, developer portal will be DOWN), pricing, comments, new app submissions and updates from 12/23/2009 until 12/29/2009. WTF Apple, we PAY your sorry ass to access thise business, why shut it down for 2 weeks? Assholes... Half assed company

  • your right, things NEVER go down for good reasons., lol

  • There is no good reason to do that, none at all. Can you imagine if your companies hosting site just decided to shut down, your website is down, you lose money. They can operate on a skeleton staff instead of locking out ALL the iPhone and iPod developers from doing anything with their business in the app store for two weeks.

  • Comment removed

  • i agree but shit still happens

  • Well its all good since my 4th iPhone app was approved today. I did want to run a christmas sale though :(

  • Let me give a concrete example. Suppose, for marketing reasons, I want to have a 99 cent special for my apps on CHristmas eve only? This requires NO intervention on apples part when I change pricing tiers, but alas I cannot do it because the website will be down for 2 weeks.

  • II used wget to download a video from apple's website with the user string "F U Apple".

  • iPhone in telcel (Mexican Company) is shit

to have iPhone in Mex its just to expensive

  • totally scripted

  • It is apples fault in this case guys... in the US there are more users then anywhere else. The problem is apple isn't allowing the network suppliers to test using the iphone with AT commands. There is a slight thing about not expecting so much signaling and packet data because the iphone users use so many online apps. If AT&T need to improve performance they need to tell apple to allow the network suppliers like Ericsson to test with the iphone.

  • Apples silhouettes as campaign of 2002-2003, offered a unique consistent message of frenetic happiness! lol

  • Just a bit of advice Eric. Don't talk politics or religion unless you are happy discuss in full. Calling Obama a nasty person, then going on to just say thats your opinion may upset viewers.

  • Palm Pre sucks unless u hack it

  • iPhone sucks unless you jailbreak it.

  • @manjyoumethunder: You are still locked down with the iPhone even when you jail brake it and its a pain in the ass to jail brake Palm Pre is easy to hack and you dont even need to Hack Google Android

  • I'm curious, how long is the AT&T exclusivity on the iPhone for in the US?

Here in the UK the O2 exclusivity ended back in November, 2 years after the iPhone was launched here. Now it's also available on Orange and Tesco Mobile. Soon to be on Vodafone, and probably all the other UK carriers next year.

  • OBAMA Nasty person? tell me any bad thing has he done? apart from cleaning up all BUSH's stuff.

  • @mrlebwaze Please shut up. Obama has fixed absolutely nothing and bush didn't either. Presidents suck dick. All of them.

  • well at least your country is out of recesion and on recovery. and they are now more troops in Afghanistan than there ever were.

  • So iPhone didn't win anyting?, them this is is a failure

  • I would like to point out.

"In July 2005, Google acquired Android, Inc."

This means that android predated the iphone. Sorry but the android is not a copy of the iphone. Adroid Inc made cell phone software long before the iphone was released.

  • they bought android, that doesn't mean android looked like how it does know back then

not that i think they copied at all btw, just wanted to point that out.

I see myself switching to android by next year.

  • That is the HTC Dragon and not s special Google Phone...need to buy this thing...

  • Eric, you sound like you have Android envy if anything. Well, actually it sounds like you have Stockholm Syndrome, after being held hostage by the iFail.

  • what? The iphone was first dude. no envy here, why buy an imitation when i can get the real thing.

  • Why buy an inferior product just because it came out "first"? Why wait two revisions to get MMS and Copy+Paste? Why settle for something that can't multitask? Why use the nation's shittiest 3G network?

Besides, "first" is what the iPhone was not. There were plenty of smartphones preceding it. It's just that you Mac guys will buy anything shiny and made by Apple.

  • @manjyoumethunder thats a good point. Yeah blackberries for example could be considered as the first smartphone industry (a phone with email), you can say iPhone came after that, but it redifined everything didnt it?

Nowadays you see all smartphones with popular apps, accelerometer, touch screen, etc.

that sounds like iPhone wannabe to me.

  • Yes but the iPhone couldn't exist to add such functionality if the Blackberry didn't precede it. These industries build on each other, borrow ideas and use them to make a new device with a better experience for different users.

While I'm not going to say the iPhone is a bad phone, saying that everything else is a wannabe or a ripoff is simply ludicrous. Should they leave out the features needed to compete?

  • Despite the features they left out it's one of the best selling and most wanted phones out there. I believe they do that to be able to come next year with a new one, keep costumers excited and well, truthfully mainly generate more income. I'm not saying all of the others smartphones are ripoffs, they must be good, but you can't deny they depended on the iPhone to be born, for one simple reason: competition, in the same way you say it wasblackberries what made the iPhone

  • blackberry may have been first but teh fucking iPHONE didnt copy anything from it. Iphone made it own touch interface, its own app store. it did all these thigns the blackberry didnt. What has the google phone innovated over the iphone the way the iphone did the blackberry? Apple didnt put out a blackberry look alike dumbass. lol, google has done nothing besides take all apples ideas. They didnt even make it look different.

  • The iPhone copied plenty from the BlackBerry. They're both small form factor, mobile devices that connect to the internet, can browse the web, read e-mails, and things of that nature.

You seem to be under the impression that having a similar design makes it a complete ripoff, and you couldn't be further from the truth. There's plenty more to a device than what it looks like.

By the way, the original iPhone didn't do anything more than the BlackBerry. There originally was no app store.

  • why buy an immitation iphone from google when i can get the real thing from apple?

  • @AppleSoldier

Because its not an immitation. Is OSX windows? Linux windows? Are they all imitations of one another. No. Your argument is invalid. Quit being a parrot and repeating it.

  • i wouldn't buy a iPhone as its a lock-in device

  • @AppleSoldier Droid wins 2009 gadget over the year

    LOL iphone

  • Droid controls apple controls 62% of the Smartphone market share and google s in the other section which is at 3%...

  • @alexwilsonvids hahaha no it doesn't it controls 55% of the market. google is at 20%

    iphone percentage will drop =]

  • @fedoraftw Just like the backberry storm was an iPhone killer, and the voyager was going to be an iPhone killer. Stop dreaming, apple won the Smartphone market... And is gaining in the computer market daily. Face the facts. The iPhone is unstoppable.

  • The funny thing is, those devices all had some sort of major flaw. Even though they were both on Verizon, the Voyager is far from a smartphone. It's a dumb phone with a bunch of features added on poorly. And the Storm was a business phone with entertainment features added.

But, lets say the Droid and the Eris, are both great devices. Google has done a good job to balance usability and features. I personally have the Eris, and Attack of the Show said it's a true iPhone competitor as well.

  • Uhhh...62%?

    en wikipedia org wiki File:Smartphone_2009.svg

  • that is q2 of 2009. Look in general just iPhone market share. I was corrected it was 55% but higher than what you thought.

  • It's grown 200% since Q2?

  • are you fucking retarded. that was just in q2, not before not after. When Q2 starts every phone is at 0 then people will buy the phone % and it will go up. Do you know how the market works at all?

  • Dude, you said MARKET share, not USAGE share. I hope you will find there is a difference before you call ME retarded.

  • those are apps market shares ...blackberry is the most used smart phone.

  • the iphones been out for years. bout time, chill

  • Because the "Google Phone" and various other Android devices aren't imitations, they're simply competing devices.

Tell me, where's the trackball on the iPhone to make web browsing easy?

And where might I find the screen to add widgets to my home pages?

Surely, you'll be able to tell me how to switch between multiple concurrently running applications?

Android simply does more than the iPhone does, without having to jailbreak it. It's brought plenty of it's own innovations to the table.

  • I'd love to see what you class as a win if you consider the iPhone an "iFail".

  • How about something that can make phone calls without dropping them? Here in the US anyway. It's pathetic that Apple would choose such a crappy network and stick with them for so long.

For $99, I got a Droid Eris on Verizon, with plenty of applications available, the ability to multitask (DroidDoes that too) and a network that doesn't suck.

The iPhone would be great, if it had multitasking, and was on Verizon...and maybe widgets too. Dashboard for the iPhone would be neat.

  • You can apparently blame Verizon themselves for not being on their network. Apparently Apple approached them first, but they didn't like the idea of Apple controling the software and features of the phone and told them no. AT&T were willing to let them do that and just provide the network it requires. You can also blame the very uncompetetive mobile market in the US because of the use of many different cell techs. In the EU we use GSM universally so all carriers can host all phones for calls/sms

  • I'm aware that Verizon is to blame, but it doesn't change the fact that AT&T sucks. It doesn't matter who's at fault, the iPhone is simply on a shitty network. At the very least, Apple should have gone to Sprint, which roams on Verizon.

  • iPhone envy? Are you fucking kidding Eric? Apple didn't invent the smartphone, or application stores on them, get off your high horse. The only "similarity" between that picture of an Android phone you have there, is the form factor: a phone.

Does the iPhone have a trackball at the bottom? (Yes, that is a trackball, not a home button). Does it have Home/Back/Menu and Search keys? No? Then what the fuck is your problem?

  • are you a fucking fool. IT LOOKS JUST LIKE THE IPHONE almost. Same type touch keyboard, same type touch scroll, NOW AN APP STORE, Same look as the iphone. Are YOU KIDDING ME? Its a complete RIP OFF of the iphone. It wasnt the first smart phone but that has NOTHING to do with GOOGLE copying Apple to be successful. Its such a copy that its a joke. Cant they design an original phone like apple did? I guess not. Not one idea on the google phone is original, all based on apple IPHONE!

  • Yes, because there's so many different ways to make devices that just have screens. Hell, HTC should have put the screen ON THE OTHER SIDE....oh wait.

Now an App Store? Eric, the iPhone was not the first phone with applications. If anything, Apple had to copy everyone else to get into the market to begin with.

If you've ever used an Android phone, you'd know the actual experience is radically different too. Not just pages of apps, there's actual useful widgets on your home screen.

  • Apple didn't have the first mobile app store. Handango release there store for Symbian, WM, and PalmOS about a year before Apple. You didn't explain how it's a copy. Basically what you saying is that any phone with a huge screen, candy bar form factor, and a small number of buttons is a iphone clone. Hp ipaqs were some of the first phone to use such design. I hope ur not talking about OS because android is widget based and open source, while Iphone only has a menu screen.

  • The fact that he has been absent from the public for half a year has a lot to do with Jobs being a contender for Time Person of the Year. Time's criteria are "for better or for worse, [this person] has done the most to influence the events of the year." Although one must admit that his absence caused more reporting on him than him being at his normal duties. But as much as I admire him I cannot see what he should have done to influence the events of the year.

  • uh are you kidding? Apple has revolutionized the media industry. Coming back from a liver transplant to go to work SAYS ALOT about a person and ther dedication to there goals. Apple has influenced our lives this year more than any other person on the list like Nancy pelosi. Obama hasnt dont shit, Jobs has to win, if not its rigged.

  • What the hell has Jobs done this year? Stolen a liver that could have gone to a little boy dying of cancer so that he could return to his media player monopoly?

    Yeah, Jobs does so much.

  • @manjyoumethunder: your comment is so tasteless I can only assume you're either 13 years old, full of anger, yet empty of knowledge or just one dumb motherf...

@AppleSoldier: What I meant was:because he was sick for half a year he couldn't do that many things that would influence the world. While I agree Apple has done a lot to influence our lives this year wasn't the one.2007 with the iPhone would have been a better choice.Maybe 2010 when the Apple Tablet saves the publishing industry

  • Tasteless? I think it's rather bluntly honest, and a response to AppleSoldier, not yourself.

No normal person would have received a liver as quickly as Jobs, and there are plenty of people with longer lives to live than him, though due to his status, of course he gets one.

  • Okay here we go, conspiracy theories...

  • Coming back from a liver transplant and heading back to business as a CEO is great acclomplishment but more for him personally than for what has "the biggest effect on the world's news" (Time). "Person of the year" is not like an award but more a recognition of public influence. Hitler was "Time Man of the Year" in 1938, Stalin in 1942. Whereas Jobs' recognitions by Fortune and AdWeek are truly deserved. But if the Tablet is a success next year Jobs is ready for Time.

  • I listen to your podcasts on my iphone on my way to work

  • AT&T blows!

Steve Jobs should be man of the year!  I guess what we think does NOT count?!

  • There are no other problems with networks in other countries that have the iPhone. AT&T have problems because AT&T are junk shit.

  • yes, its not apple. AT&T is making Apple take the blame without saying a word. BASTARDS!

  • Slow day? Did you get your H1N1 Vaccine?

Good job, Eric. Always fun to hear your voice. 

  • I enjoy the Podcasts. I listen to all of them. And it's great because I listen to them on the way to my college classes.

  • Unless they are live, why not do video but only sound?

  • because they are PODCATS's. not VIDEOS. I post them several places.

  • PODCATS? As opposed to PODDOGS?

  • Wow. That was clever.
