  • O n Running Bear by Johnny Preston you can also hear the Big Bopper on the background. By the way this is a fine cover !

  • Yes, as well as writing the song, the Big Bopper joined in the background vocals! Thanks for the comment :)

  • Just heard the Big Bopper's son, J.P. Richardson, Jr. interviewed on KGO Radio in San Francisco. I'm 55 years old and consider myself really "up" on rock n' roll facts, but this was a new one on me. J.P., Jr. also mentioned that his Dad had written George Jones' first big hit, "White Lightnin'." Hadn't thought of Johnny Preston's "Running Bear" for decades until J.P.'s son talked about it just now. Hope I-Tunes has it for sale. I love this song. Pequinito, many thanks for posting!

  • Yes, JP was a man of many talents! Thanks for the comment, and for sharing the information :)

  • Thank you very much, Pequinito, for your prompt answer. J.P., Jr. talked about his father's career and compositions (including "Running Bear") on the talk show that was just on. Sadly, today is the 50th anniversary of "The Day the Music Died" when Big Bopper perished with Richie Valens and Buddy Holly in a plane crash in Iowa. Big Bopper was larger than life and a very talented man. This Johnny Preston hit is a great example! Thank you very much for sharing.

  • Thanks again for the information, I'm sure it will be appreciated especially by those who are not familiar with the great JP's accomplishments. The occasion of the 50th anniversary of the plane crash calls for commemoration.

  • i first heard this song in the car w/ my dad and he started singing it (not very well i might add but he tries XD) it was stuck in my head ever sence. just singing away! thank you sooo much!

  • and thank you so much too, for the comment :)

  • I remember this song well. I was 13 and it was 2:30 in the morning. This song was playing on the car radio. We had "borrowed" the car of my friend's mom. A passing cop car got suspicious of three kids in a car and followed us. We stopped, got out and ran like crazy, over fences, through backyards, leaving footprints all over the snow. We got caught in a garage. Yes, I remember this song well. :(

  • Thanks for sharing :)

  • wot tv program had this song at the end?

  • the only song I ever saw my mother play on a juke box in a cafe. I LOVE it. Thanks! :D

  • glad to hear that, thank you very much for the comment :)

  • Written by the big bopper, and you can hear him doing background on it.

  • That's true, thanks for the information :)

  • Yes, Pequinito, everytime I see my little baby it's like feeling her close to me again. I really appreciate your time and effort to create your videos. That means more than gold to me! Thanks a million, hun. Muah!

  • Oh, my beloved Coquita is here! My sweet little darling is alive again! I am so touched by this! And also, what a lovely story between Running Bear and Little White Dove. Their love was so intense that they challenged nature and the power of the river. They were not affraid of being pulled down, as long as they could remain together in eternity. That is real love! Thank you so much, Pequinito. I have no way to explain how much this means to me! I love you and keep you in my heart! Muah!

  • I'm so glad you like it, especially to see your lovely Coquita featured to illustrate this love story :)

    TQM!
