offered to My name, and a pure offering, for My name shall be great... There will be countless sounds and styles rising all over the world from pure hearts to glorify Jesus, let's not turn our ears because it's not what we're used to, and let's not discourage genuine believers who are musicians and singers who worship with a variety of sounds and styles. We need them in the kingdom, and to have them come they need to know there's a space for them do be who He created them to be. Amen.
The Psalms are SONGS, messages with music. Hymns of revelation are songs! Therefore if God is THE creator then everything else is counterfeit.
I plead with you to stop attributing anything that doesn't sound like "Lord I lift Your name on high" as worldly music. Rev. 5:9 says thru a new song that Jesus will receive a sound from every tribe, tongue, and nation. and its also prophesied in Malachi 1:11 from the rising of the sun to the setting of the same in every place incense shall be offered
soberness of that. Imagine the soundtrack to the verse "(Phil. 2:12-13) working out our salvation with fear and trembling," doesn't strike me as being an acoustic guitar G-C-D type of sound. Perhaps this video was reflecting a mood of the fear of the Lord. Could it have been done better? Perhaps? Or perhaps not. Again, personal pref, I'm not here to discuss that.
God is THE creator (Gen. 1), the first and the last (Rev. 1:11) and God is a musical God. Zeph 3:17 says He sings. The Psalms are S
Jesus deeply, and use the music in a worshipful context or even in a prayer context; with the sole purpose to glorify Jesus.
And I've seen individuals play "praise music" and be living completely for their own glory and name. I.e. whitewashed tombs as Jesus said in Matt. 23:27 externally religious but inwardly dead.
I submit this to you: The content in which Ravenhill was speaking wasn't light and fluffy, it had an edge to it and was rather intense, therefore the music reflected the soberness
The amount of comments regarding this music being "of the world" is honestly very shocking to me. Personal preference is one thing, if you don't like it, that's fine, but to say this person should put up "praise music" instead...who's to say this isn't 'praise music'? Just because this isn't "How great is our God" or "Light of the world" doesn't devalue it; and because it has a more modern sound doesn't mean it's 'of the world.' I know many individuals who play electronic type music who love Je
You can't win the world by being just like the world, this music only draws false emotion. How can a man have a Godly fear, the disciples never put music behind there preaching...Examine yourself, if any man love the world or the things of it, the love of the Father is not in them. Read James 4:4
How many Lies do you think you have told in your life? Have you ever stolen anything, even something small? Have you ever looked at a person with lust? Ever used GOD's name as a curse word? If you have, GOD sees you as a Lying, thieving, blasphemous, adulterer at heart. The Guilty will end up in Hell. That's not GOD's will. You broke GOD's laws, but Jesus paid your fine! (IF) you Repent, and trust in Christ alone, GOD will forgive every sin you have ever committed, and grant you Eternal life!
Are you kidding me??? WHAT A HORRIBLE MUSIC!!! WOW!! don't you have discernment? ...demonic music with pure gospel, how horrible, my goodness....techno with rock ....demonic
I couldn't follow because of the music : ( It's getting in the way. Can you post another one without that kinda music? It increases my b.p.
With all respect to you bro, I think there are more comments on the music than on the sermon because it's getting in the way and people like me can't focus on wht he's saying and hence don't watch the entire clip.
But other than that, I'm sure Mr. Ravenhill something powerful to say again.
I feel the enemy has invaded what God was up to here... The people openly rebuking sermonfire on the wall here.. ridiculous... message him in private... sermonfire this music does not support preaching.. however I love your heart and God does to! Way to step up on act upon God stirring in your heart! Be open to rebuking and stay in prayer and read His word! I am in disbelief at how much discouragement is being displayed here.. Did anybody pray before they posted or did everyone here react..
wow people who are whining about someone using music behind this sermon have some serious confusion. Why cant he put music behind it? because its unholy? who says? haha.. it makes me laugh thinking about it.. that you would rebuke someone for using music.
wow people who are whining about someone using music behind this sermon have some serious confusion. Why cant he put music behind it? because its unholy? who says? haha.. it makes me laugh thinking about it.. that you would rebuke someone for using music.
Brother, please listen to those who say the music is awful. It truly does take away from the message. I couldn't even hear the message, the music so distracting.
I tend to agree about the music. It does not enhance the message whatsoever. Ravenhill doesn't need bells and whistles to make his message more attractive, and he would have certainly rejected such methods if he were still on the earth.
These so-called "sermon jams" are worldly ways of turning the Word of God into music videos to make them more "entertaining." It's sad. We aren't to be like the world. What brother Ravenhill is doing is warning people, not trying to entertain them. In his own words, "Entertainment is the devil's substitute for God's joy."
The most important chapter of the Book of Revelation is Chapter 12. Learn about the extraordinary story of Revelation 12 and also learn the truth of the wedding invitation of Matthew 22 at prophecies...org
yes i get a lot of people in this day that say that music helps them focus and it makes everything flow better. If that is true then you are in it for the music. And if the music makes the message seem better to you then you are worshipping the music above the gospel. Nothing can truly lift up the gospel of Jesus Christ. Nothing can make it better. "We are not relevant because we are like our culture, we are relevant because we are absolutely different." Paul Washer
that's not necessarily true~ everybody learns things in different ways~ some people study with loud music~ some use a beat for memorization~ some, like me, like silence~ some people are in it for the music
Sermonfire! You are young...but God is the same for all ages!No matter your age, there is a Spirit of Christ! it is the same with anybody who desire Jesus Christ our Lord truely from the heart! What Wheresmylife is saying is the truth! That kind of pop music doesnt fit into this! You may listen to it if it does help you do good! But isn't nice with the preaching of The Word of God!
I can see the feeble creatures of heaven. Innocent and weak in their white garments. Sitting high above as faceless slaves. Their empty eyes, too blind to see. Terrorized and controlled with strings. Don't hide from me, open to your darker side. The die is cast, there is no turning back. Strike them down with hellish power. Warriors of the pit shall prevail. Their lives will end in despair and flames. No holy cross to protect their rotting souls. Prayers to ashes, angels to dust.
All I can say is that certain Christians use very LAZY and SLOPPY arguments to define their so called holiness. Example: Be not like the world ...WELL OK, so what does that mean ? Don't drive an automobile? don't jog at night,? don't consume Diet Pepsi? don't have well paying job? don't swim in the ocean? The point is that NOT everything the world DOES is sin and it really makes me kinda sick that so many "professing" Christians are THIS legalistic.
I agree with your statement about lazy and sloppy argument Christians...This topic has grieved me for a long time..
But maybe I can bring some clarity for you in the statement about "Be not like the world" The closest statement in the bible to this is found in Romans 12:1-2, it it is not covering normal everyday functions, but more the matters of the heart. Faith in Christ is a matter of HIm being Lord over our lives, in every area, thats what he wants and ask for "Every Area".
"1. You just defined yourself as a Pharisee by saying "And I think this definition happens to include..." "
What are you talking about? How did that define me as a pharisee, it defined you as a pharisee? Please read what I wrote again, and stop twisting my words.
Of course music isn't there to add to the message, music doesn't speak words. But yeah, music might help you be more attentive and thus increase your learning.
The only thing worldly I see are your legalistic rules.
I agree that the music is horrible. Sermons are not supposed to be entertaining. What happened in this video is part of the entertainment driven church. God's Word is not a music video. It's HOLY and should be treated as such. This is disrespectful and juvenile. Leonard Ravenhill himself would tell you to take this off the internet if that's what you're going to do with it.
I've talked to several people who've found the music to be helpful and quite a few more who believe it isn't.
I would post the original sermon only clips onto youtube but I don't have them anymore due to hard drive failure.
Finally, you need to ask a question, is what I did sinful? If it is not (and it isn't) you're just blowing smoke in my face for no reason. Do you really think I would post this up to be "juvenile"? Have you watched any of my other videos? Whatever. peace.
One word: motive.. This is an entertainment driven society and Christians are just as guilty. That music doesn't edify. It's meant to make the clip more interesting. Man motivated, not God motivated. It'tries to make the gospel "cool" and relevant, like music videos. It's juvenile in that it's not a spiritually mature act. I didn't say you sinned. 1 Cor 10:23 says, All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify. God bless
If you're familiar with brother Ravenhill's teachings, what do you honestly think he'd say about it? Christians need to be very careful to not copy the world's ways of doing things. Turning the gospel into a music video is essentially saying, "I have to make it relevant so more people will watch it. The gospel's not interesting enough on it's own." See what I'm saying, bro?
Listen, I'm 20 years old, I love God and am reading my Bible and good theology everyday. I just watched a required Intervarsity Christian Fellowship (made in the 80's) using the synthesizer, reading of scripture, and random people preaching about evangelism. It was full of cliches and copied the world in every sense of the word.
Please, go protest giant false ministries that consistently teach bad theology rather than my small true ministry that has made a few mistakes.
I don't protest or witch hunt. Forgive me if my post was blunt. With only 500 characters to work with, you have to be to the point! My point was not to berate or condemn you. It just gets frustrating to see great teaching like Ravenhill's be made more "entertaining." After all, it was Ravenhill who said America has a king and his name is Sport. He has a wife and her name is Entertainment. He also said, "Entertainment is the devil's substitute for God joy."
You are in the right. Do not listen to those who bring you down. Ravenhill said it himself -" Trying to be holier than thou, eh? ". Continue to draw close to God, and he will be faithful and draw close to you. These people are in here will try to criticize truth, but just ignore them - most of them aren't worth their salt!
@sermonfire I don't think Ravenhill would understand some of the particular music behind sermons, but the only thing I belive he would refute is if someone were to make the argument that the music is totally necessary to make the message relevant. Otherwise it's a nothing issue, he probably would have never addressed it because I don't think this video was created out of necessity. Pick your battles 'wheresmylife'
Here's one definition of a pharisee(of many possible ones): someone who adds laws to the law of God. And I think this definition happens to include people who say you can't put background music on a sermon excerpt, since nowhere does the bible say you can't have background music on sermon excerpts.
1. You just defined yourself as a Pharisee by saying "And I think this definition happens to include..."
2. I didn't say people can't put background music. I said it wasn't done to add to the message but to make it more entertaining, thus disrespectful and worldly in it's motives.
BUT, as sermonfire pointed out, he's young and bound to make mistakes. We worked it out. I didn't involve you.
And to further prove my point, I'll tell you a few more things.
Firstly, Leonard Ravenhill himself uses humor in his sermons to make it more interesting and entertaining; a HORRIBLE THING? I guess you should go protest against Ravenhill for worldliness.
Why does the bible commend the use of instruments when singing? To make it more entertaining. Why don't preachers read their sermons directly from their sermon manuscripts, nor speak with a monotone voice? So it is more interesting.
@sermonfire I don't like the music itself behind this video, but that's just my opinion. As far as music behind sermons goes, it isn't totally necessary, no, but I think it often illuminates the words being spoken. If anyone disagrees so strongly, I would ask if they also have an issue with the pianist playing behind the end of a preachers sermon in church, or during the time the altar call is given
@sermonfire it is not helpful it is distracting. i appreciate that your trying to emphasize His word with music but Gods word dont need this. i cant concentrate.

Being of this world means ignoring what God has in store for you. God needs you to go one way and you decide "No, I'll go this way on my own accord."
You can still be moral and of the world. But to live for God and his purpose is what separates you. Absolute faith.
