  • Sorry but that Utah team alone that year has alot of successful NFL players and not to mention, URBAN MEYER coached that team and no one that year came even close to giving them a game. Oh, all the Utah starters, didn't play anymore by the 4th quarter. Sorry, you're just a product of the BCS and ESPN highlights...

  • Sorry but I wasn't THAT impressed by this win. Don't get me wrong it was great for a non-BCS team to beat a BCS team, but it was Pitt. Of all the BCS teams that the BCS busters beat, Pitt was the easiest. Sorry JMO.

  • that hook and ladder was executed perfectly

  • We'll still never know just how good that 04 Utah team was...

  • the hook and lateral dates back to the 17th century, and has always been a staple in any rugby playbook. the 82 miami dolphins were first to do it in the playoffs, but it was in the first half. utah did it up 3 scores. boise state did it DOWN 7 on THEIR OWN 49 with 18 SECONDS LEFT on 4TH & 18. as the underdog to adrien peterson's OU. that's why people call it the boise play and not the utah, or miami or medieval times play, because it actually meant something

  • Lmao at the announcer who said hesn ever seen the play

  • parris warren is a beast

  • Screw Urban he is history and a dick.

  • it's cool that the one dude plaid baseball not football in hihgskool

  • Comment removed

  • It gained such notoriety for Boise State because they ran it on a 4th down in the final seconds of the 4th quarter of the Fiesta Bowl to send it to OT. Utah ran it when they were already up 28-7, making it just another TD in an asswhooping. That's probably why people call it "Boise's" play.

Truth is, neither invented it...my 7th grade football team practiced this play...never ran it in a game, but it was in our playbook. That was more than 5 years before this game.

  • ok I want to clear some shit up. Utah ran the play before Boise did in their BCS bowl. I was simply saying that I'm sick of everyone defining the hook and ladder as Boise's play. However, it is not Utah's either. I am a Utah fan, and I also said that a while ago like 2 years. I wasn't as smart back then. I am not mormon either, fuck mormons. I am from salt lake thats why I like the utes. so there no more hate comments to me.

  • The hook and ladder has been around a lot longer than either Boise State or Utah, so both sides need to shut up.

  • @skankuser should stop hating and learn some history. University of Utah was established in 1850, and football team began in 1892. The first legal forward pass in college football occurred in 1906 by St. Louis University when rules were changed to allow the forward pass (even to down lineman.) So, your statement of the hook & ladder (lateral) being around before Utah football is plain wrong.

  • The statement at 0:30; Meyer single handedly defined two football programs

  • Absolutely amazing! We miss that stuff here in Utah, Urban.

  • Utah ran the same play in the 08 Sugar Bowl while handing Alabama and Saban their butts.

  • Jesus, Urban can coach

  • Pitt just got there ass kicked plain and simple didnt deserve to be there Utah should of been playing for the title that year. And get this I'm a BYU fan And I hate UTAH but the team that year was fukin amazing.

  • y is everybody saying they ripped off boise...that play has been utilized everywhere, some of the great pop warner teams to high school to college...it wasnt that new and wat made it less impressive was that dude basically caught a bubble screen, the QB really didnt have to read any D and the WR didnt have to run his hook then find a zone for the QB to throw it AND didnt have to wait for another reason to come clear across the field to take the pitch

  • that isnt a hook and ladder.. that is a wide receiver screen and ladder.. do you even know what the hook part is?

  • No execuses here Utah just flat out kicked our ass

  • @PENS68 its okay, pittsburgh had no business being a bcs game that year anyway,

  • @rambo7276 well somebody had to go and we all knew pitt didnt stand a chance. Utah was a legit national title team that year

  • @PENS68 thats true, your comment that that Utah was a legit national title team that year is very stupid however. There were four teams better than Utah that year.

  • @rambo7276

Maybe in the same dream world where Miami fans thought they were gonna crush Wisconsin last year.

  • @dybeen please try to make sense.

  • @rambo7276

Sorry, forgot I was replying to a Miami fan. I forget sometimes that you guys would have trouble just trying to pass a 4th grade level reading test.

  • @dybeen your original comment made no sense. what miami fans thought they were gonna crush wisconsin? miami was so deflated at the end of last year, they had no momentum going into their bowl game. miami was terrible against the run last year, and had to deal with a very good running back in john clay. your most recent comment also contains 0 sustainability as being a miami fan does not mean you are stupid. being from the south makes you stupid. what is your favorite team by the way?

  • all u here is the "Boise State play" but they ripped off Utah

  • Boise State's was a little bit more dramatic. Utah was already winning 28-7 before that play.

  • @MMbaseball8 idky everyone is saying Utah made this play cause they didnt. i remember the miami dolphins did it against the chargers in a playoff game. the game where kellen winslow went off

  • @MMbaseball8 yeah but Boise's is just much more clutch and longer.....and they were play Oklahoma, not pitt :P

  • @MMbaseball8 it's "Boise State play" because it allowed the Bronco's the opportunity to win the Fiesta Bowl. If Boise State couldn't convert, they would have lost. This is not the case here in this Utah game. :)

  • @MMbaseball8 actually the hook and ladder/lateral is a very common trick play. utah's was more of a lets do this play cuz we know it will work. bsu did it to not lose. ima uconn fan btw. i think bsu's was better because of the intensity of the game and that one of the sooners players anlkles got broken. both were great plays. i love college football since things like this happen more.

  • @MMbaseball8 I'm 100% sure utah did not invent and/or run that play... Plus, there is no team on this planet that has a whole 100% original playbook... So everyone rips off plays from everyone they are not copyrighted! Stick to baseball!!!

  • @MMbaseball8 They actually both ripped off The Miami Dolphins of 72.

  • @MMbaseball8 you do know that the hook and ladder has been ran for a long time right? Utah didn't invent the play.

  • Everybody thinks that the hook and ladder came from boise well it came from utah suckas

  • Pitt just signed a two year agreement with Utah about a month ago for a two game series 2010 in Utah and 2011 in Pittsburgh

  • awesome! cant wait
