  • Your horse can jump but you can't.

    Sorry

  • cool :)

  • TWH and SSH horses can jump just as well as any breed..I started jumping my twh/ssh mare at 3 yrs old and turned out to be her favorite talent..we have won world championships in different assocaitions..her heart pounds when we enter the arena for jumping! It just takes a lot of practice!! Gaited horses can jump just as well as any other breed..maybe not as high but I have jumped 4foot with mine!! good luck!!

  • My Tennessee Walker mare loves to jump to, she even does it on her own when she is out at grass in the cross country coarse. She tucks in herself so nicely and is always eager when she sees a jump. I'd love to train her how to trot then we could do it better.

  • your position is terrible you need to fold more

  • I'm well aware of that. ;) You do realize this video is from almost 3 years ago correct?

  • @LilWickedJester Its actually not terrible at all! And I bet you got better!

  • looks like the both of you are having fun! great vid :)

  • I am a huntseat rider and looking to buy a horse, just because of the scene I've always been told to stay farfaraway from gaited horses but after seeing videos like this it's making me rethink that! good job!

  • greay job!!! he seems to luv jumping!!!!! dont listen to nebody else!!!! u horse is very capable of jumpin and he has fun so who cares wat other people say!!!

  • So cute! Your great for having no jumping lessons. I jumped 3'3" with no lessons Iv only been trained for 2' hes GORGOUS horse! lol Guys leave her alone! Shes having fun! For christ sakes the tittle doesnt say "Me jumping- please critisize and be bithces!" Leave her the hell alone!!!!

  • how did you teach him i am looking to train mine to jump.

  • TWH's Soar When They Jump, Different Then Other Jumping Breeds, TWH's Don't Suddenly Drop After Landing A Jump. (: I Like Soaring. It's Fun. ^^

  • I love it! He is gorgeous by the way :)

  • As a trainer, it isn't so much about how the horse trots as it is about how the horse can canter since jumping is just another canter stride. We are asking for the moment of suspension. This horse has great form over the fences and looks happy doing it. I am all about finding what a horse is good at and enjoys doing. I praise you for this video because it illustrates an example of diversity of the breed. Thanks!

  • I think it's great! Your horse is beautiful.

    Good for you!

    Dare to be different!!!

  • wow who knew puting a gaited horse jumping online would start an argument? lol

  • That looked fine to me. It's neat to less traditional "jumping breeds" over fences.

  • i thinks its great that you have so much confidence in yourself and your horse to try jumping. however just be careful, alot can go wrong and all it takes is one time. just a tip. stay in two point over the fence. you have to much contact with your saddle, and your coming back on him. that can cause him to pull rails with his hind legs and also hurt his back if you continue to do it. hope it helps. Have fun!!!

  • Thank you so much for the suggestions and I completely agree with you! If you haven't seen it, I just posted a new clip of a single jump that is more recent.

  • @daisy051405 I did that once on accidentt, I lost my balance causing myself to fall back in the saddle, making my walker hit the rail (i never did that again, just that one time) I always make sure I have my balance good before I take him through the obstacles

  • This is how I like to see these horses!

  • LilWickedJester, if you never took jumping lessons...

how does your horse know how to jump

*i might sound like a idiot sorry. i own a tennesse walking horse and i want her to jump

  • the twh i ride loves to jump some times he trots in stead of racking! so and i jumped him 2 feet the other day and hes 23! so it depends on the horse not the breed!! ( not to be mean just making a point!)

  • well..that is ok in my opinion. it just makes me mad when someone who has a good walking horse who probably performs the gaits they were bred for good & they want to make them canter & jump instead of letting them be smooth & easy going horses they were meant to be..by the way i posted that comment a long time ago & my opinion has changed since..though i still rather to see a twh on the flat.

  • well, we did nothing to him to make him jump he just had a passion for it look to my back ground. hes the paint one!

  • No offense I agree with solarcise. I have an oldenburg/trakehner mare with dressage bloodlines bred for dressage but she loves to jump and is very successful and I know horses bred for jumping but they don't like to jump.

  • yes..but a true twh walks/racks. they are meant to be a smooth riding pleasure horse. they aren't built for jumping. most walking horses are very clumsy in their hindquarters & how do you think you would feel if you horse lost its footing landing a jump?

  • Ignorant.

  • umm, excuse me but you can do whatever you want with your horse,i have 2 walkers and neither of them have a rocking chair canter, and if walkers are bred for pleasure not performance then why does the tennessee walking horse national celebration have like the biggest breed show turn out, this video proves that walkers can do anything and trotters can't! ohhhhhhhh

  • when i say they aren't bred for performance i mean jumping. i know that they have a big show, i go to most of the twh shows in my area & show in them myself. umm. how exactly does this video prove that walkers can do anything trotters can't when the majority of jumpers trot? & i sure haven't seen any twhs in dressage & the olympics! Ohhhhhhh! don't get me wrong i love walkers, i own one myself. but it is just my opinion against yours in this case.

  • I have seen alot of walkers do dressage, just because they dont go to the olympics doesnt mean they cant do it..

  • Yes, you are right about being a bitch. Funny, I think Walking horses WERE bred for performance. Do you know what breeds the TWH were developed by? Um, the Thoroughbred, Standardbred, Morgan, and Saddlebred. Aren't Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds racehorses primarily? You retarded jumping horse snobs are ridiculous. You're just jealous because your ass hurts all the time from that stupid bouncing and posting. THAT looks retarded.

  • plantation owners bred twhs so they could have a smooth ridin horse that would b comfortable 4 long periods of time. They were originate from the Narragansett&Canadian Pacers &then later TBs,StBs,morgans&SBs were added 4 stamina.&twhs are not racehorses, nor are they built 4 jumpin.they are far 2 clumsy 4 jumpin.Oh by the way posting doesnt hurt my ass!If u knew anything u wouldnt say that & i own a twh & must say my butt hurts worse after a day of riding him due 2 the fact i cant move my butt!

  • How's this sound? Thank you for your concern but after owning this horse for 11 years I know his limitations. He loves to jump and does it both efficiently and safely for my needs while also enjoying himself. At almost 18 he is sound as a pound and going strong.

Knock off the arguing or I will delete everything.

    Have a nice day!

  • @PhantomJumper08 I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's totally safe to jumps TWHs if they've had time to set their joints and muscles for jumping? The only danger is that they aren't usually used for jumping, not necessarily that they aren't made for jumping.. I know of at least two horses that jump fantastically.. although it's true they are both only half TWH.. their mom jumped even nicer than they do! I think it's just what they are conditioned to do..

  • @PhantomJumper08 I don't want to be mean either but TWH Can be trained to not gait... I ride at a Gaited horse Academy and thats what my trainer told me

  • @PhantomJumper08 I hate to gang up, but I do believe I should have an input on this:

Any horse can jump, even if they're not bred for it. What she's doing is what the HORSE wants to do. My horse is as well a TWH and he LOVES jumping. I let my horse run around the arena and he chose to jump the jump set up... 4 times in a row, turning around each time to do it. Tennessee Walkers can do anything you ask them to. We're doing what we want to. I know this happened 2 years ago, but still.

    Thanks.

  • @PhantomJumper08 there's non gaited horses out there who do rocking chair canters too you know....

  • i ride twh that can jump 3 feet!!

  • hey dont worry about the canter or anything, i jump my tennessee walker and am starting my spotted saddle under jumping. it looks great especially without any proper lessons, youll get better, just have fun!

  • i hate how tennessee walkers "canter" it looks like crap but nice try jumping.

  • Um, ok you can't really see his canter and especially not in real time in this video. He has never been taught to properly but when I can get him on the right leads front and back he canters like a 'normal' horse.

  • much better than the what the AQHA calls a "lope." THAT looks like crap to me.

  • ummm, other walkers look better only some have a rocking chair canter, (big lick horses) padded horses

  • Your getting left behind every time & yanking on his mouth. Get into two point and stay there. Grab some mane if you are unbalanced. I would go back to x-rails until your balance improves. He is a cute horse with potential- his rider just needs some lessons!

  • Thank you. Agreed about being left behind. Since I figured I'd get him in the mouth I adjusted his bit so that it had a LOT of play in it. This is the first time I jumped in 6 months or so. Could be a lot better. The next day (not filmed) was much better.

  • You're pretty bloody good for not having any jumping lessons! good job, that looked wicked! :D Oh and whats a TWH?

  • A Tennessee Walking Horse, a breed of gaited horse that is known for it's running walk so he does not trot.

  • Ahhh those are very pretty horses. I just looked them up in my breeds book and they sound awesome! Way more interesting that my wee thoroughbred whom I love so very much XD

  • Please please try not to catch your horse in the mouth when jumping him, its unfair to him. Grab some mane about halfway up his neck and you'll find yourself being a bit steadier.

  • The next day I was much better. Grabbing mane sadly makes me unsteadier. If I remind myself to go with the jump and give him his head I can get my hands down more and actually stay with him, makes us both much happier. :)

  • WoW!!! I think yall did great!!

  • Cool! And I found the dog to be rather amusing. :-)
