Theres alot more to comparing routers then just signal strength. Higher connections rates = higher spartial streams = lower signal levels. Also there are different compatibilities between your tablet's wireless antenna and the wireless signal on the 1st and 2nd layers. Just Google the Intel N adapter issues and you will see what I mean. I know it wasn't meant as scientific though, so still thumbs up. I was a fan of the DGL-4300 until I moved to dd-wrt.

interesting how signal strength does not always mean the best data rate of transfer so a G router could have high signal strength as compared to a N router have a lower signal strength but the N despite having the lower signal strength would still be faster a pushing the data wireless

The thing is that those newer router doesn't drop when u have multiple devices. I used to have a netgears just like that one, but the thing here is that i have like 10 wireless devices in my house and whenever i connect my laptop to the network my bro laptop losed it network:( then i went to costco and bought a new router dual band, it actually solve the problem, so if u r using only one device i think it will give u the same speed unless u have like 20-54mb/s internet plan then u will see diff.

Excellent work! Note: 5ghz give you less distance.

Wireless technology hasn't changed much. The only true way to get more distance is MORE POWER but the law limits that. You don't want to blast that much power in your home, its not too healthy. Remember cordless home phones? 900mhz, then 1ghz, then 2.4, and now 5ghz!! It was only a small improvement each time. In the end you just stayed near the base.

Solution: Lay one cable and have 2 wireless access points in the house.

So, I'm in a condo and my Router is in my kitchen on top of the cupboards, My main computer is in the master bedroom which is in the next room... although the computer is just on the other side of the wall... my PS3 is in the same master bedroom... my Xbox360 is in the living room about 15 ft. away, My Laptop is setup in the dining room about 7 ft. away... and I use my Iphone and Tablet through out the condo... shouldve have a netgear wndr4500 n900 in that line up. at only $20-$30 more its suppose to give a much better range with six internal antennas. I set one up recently for a friend but wasn't able to test out its user feasible range.

the point of multiple antennas is for MIMO (multiple input multiple output) which is a way of increasing data speeds in wireless networks it has nothing to do with increasing there range. also i believe its normal for 5ghz bands to have a shorter range than 2.4ghz bands although they do have a better bit rate. i personally have a netgear n750 dual band and it outperforms any other router i have ever used.

Very fair and informative review on wireless routers. Good job Mr. Linus. One thing I wouldn't do but Linus does is that he takes his expensive electronic equipment out in the rain and snow. He and his camera man must be crazy to put tier equipment in harms way or they have big bucks available to replace there equipment. Furthermore I see that they like to work at night. Family time of the day. Wonder if Linus have children? If he does he talks more about his cats than is kids.

You should have had them on the table the whole time. I have E4200 and for a week I had it under my desk getting horrible range and speed. Put it on my desk and got range of about 200+ Feet and about a 25Mbps connect speed there.

those wireless g netgears are awesome. i have one that has been going 24-7 for almost three years and it hasnt dropped performance once. the problem with them is that if you are pulling multiple signals with a lot of information your modem might switch channels and the router doesnt follow the modem so you loose connection.
